He is not minimizing. It is the job of the President to limit panic. It's a hard line to follow. Talk about the reality of this not being the death plague & folks call it minimizing. Talk about the seriousness of it & folks will call it creating excessive fears. It's hard on media & everyone to keep the balance.
Its his job as president to be truthful and not make a global pandemic out to be just the flu. Disinformation is dangerous, and he absolutely minimized it. He said we'd be down to 0 cases in weeks when he should have been telling people to take precautions like the CDC and experts said to do. He was everyone who needs a test can get a test, while Mike Pence and the CDC when contradicting that.

NIH's Fauci wishes Trump hadn't disbanded global health unit
Two years ago, Trump disbanded the White House's global health security unit. Today, Anthony Fauci suggested that wasn't a smart move.

Not saying he made it better, but he didnt start it. Started by Clinton in the 90's.

I posted an easily verified fact that South Korea was better prepared and has handle the crisis of public healthcare in their country better than we have. (Fact is far, far better.) What is the response of the crazed posters here? They deny the truth and post how I should be attacked. They are irresponsible panicky ideologues who cannot deal with reality truthfully. They want us to think they are intelligent and concerned but they simply cannot hide their ignorant predilections.

If it's your time to pass from this world you are gone and nothing can save you except God Almighty.. When He decides it is your time to go, well good bye.. I don't want to see anyone die from anything much less a new kind of flue..

.1 % of Flu sufferers die equating to 1/1000

2-3% of Corona sufferers dying in China

Concern is 2% in US. If 45% of people will ultimately carry it as estimated in US that would be nearly 3 million dying.

We have to minimize spread to protect those that could be at biggest risk.

Minimizing risk equates to shutting down everything...not just sports, but the whole freaking show. Can we do that?

I read the first and last page of this thread, and lost more IQ points than i can afford to.

Politicians gonna politic. No. Our government is way behind the eightball on this. No. Our capitalist society is much better managed than any socialist system ever. Period. Dot. End of sentence. It's not great, but it beats the alternative.

You're not gonna stop the spread of this. It's here, and it's lose. You can blame open borders, you can blame the Communist Party for letting theirdisease vectors fly all over the world, you're slamming the door on an empty barn.

You wanna get through this with the minimum fuss you're too late. You should have been prepping for this last month like I urged all my family members to do. My wife and I are preppers anyway, so we're good. The rest of you grasshoppers... good luck.(that includes all my family members who didn't listen. Mom listened. No one else. Don't come begging.)

Stay at home. Wash your flipping hands. USE SOAP AND WATER!(some people need to be told. Often) Cover your mouth when you cough, or sneeze. STAY AT HOME!!

One last thing.... STAY AT HOME!

For sure, but the mortality rate isnt the issue.

1%-2% of flu cases require hospitalization. 20% of the cases inflicted with this virus require hospitalization.

The fact is, we don't have those beds. Nobody does. Italy is already having to choose between who to save because there simply aren't enough supplies to go around to everyone.

If we don't shut everything down, you'll see that happen here, too.

The mortality numbers are skewed because most people who got the virus didnt know they had it...and recovered in a few days.

This is what South Korea has done. Their death rate is lower and the spread is reversing.

Their reported death rate is lower because they’re testing healthy people, anyone with a cough and 15 minutes to drive through a testing stop, not just those bad enough off to be at a hospital. The real death rate is likely none too different from anywhere else.

This is what health officials are worried about as far as overwhelming hospitals...

Italian cardiologist says surgical department has been shut down to make room for coronavirus patients

The head of an Italian cardiac surgery department said the coronavirus outbreak has forced his department to suspend operations to make room for coronavirus patients.

Dr. Lorenzo A. Menicanti, the head of cardiac surgery department at IRCCS Policlinico San Donato in Milan, told CNN's Becky Anderson cardiac surgery has been "completely shut down" — except for pediatric cases.

"The big, big issue is the cardiac surgery for adults. It is completely shut down," he said.

He added:

"So it's really an uneasy situation for us, for the patient, for the hospital, because to stop so large a program of cardiac surgery is really difficult because we have to think that after that we have to reopen all things and sometimes not so evident."

The death rate is only calculated with people who test positive. Their death rate is lower because they are testing many more people and catching it earlier on.

Most young people without health issues aren’t being tested at all elsewhere, because to them it’s no different than a common cold and they have to go to a hospital to get tested. In South Korea, you don’t even have to get out of your car to get tested.

It’s no surprise to anyone that when your median test recipients are age 40 vs 65 that you’re going to get higher death rates in the latter group. Or do you think young people in South Korea just get the coronavirus easier?

Do you think catching the virus early on and treating it sooner does nothing to lower the death rate?

Treating it with what? Antivirals or vaccines that haven’t been invented yet? There’s no treating the virus, only the symptoms and, if necessary, hospitalization for serious complications like severe pneumonia.

You don't get it.

The projections are 45% of US citizens will carry this. That is nearly 150 million people. 30% of these would be high risk as obese, 10% with diabete, 40% 60 and older are obese- that is 60 million people.

We are also not adequately prepared.

Finally, who in the hell recovered in a couple days?

I don’t think you understand the difference between cure and treat...

You’re free to tell me what treatments have been effective against the virus. The same ones not available to everyone who thinks they have any other upper respiratory infection.
