The link above focuses on USA only, so it'll kind of give you an idea why sudden increase in action past couple days.

just three days ago, we had increase of barely over 100. Yesterday it ballooned to 290 new cases, and today it is well over 300 new cases reported in USA.

Basically USA is showing exponential growth in new cases, which is probably going to cause chain reaction of events. This growth path is eerily similar to Italy's growth path.

We also are reporting highest death rate today with +8, which is still very low, but likely these numbers will continue to grow as well.

We weren’t able to even test until recently with some areas still unable. It was predicted that cases would balloon. Nothing shocking about it.

death rate is close to 4 percent globally. south korea, italy, (rest of the world) have guaranteed health care. Its in the best interest of those countries to have tests. Here it has to be touched by every pharmaceutical company and make sure their profit margins are correct and then they can distribute. Dont think america wants access to tests all over either cause our numbers will grow big time. Heaven forbid that messes of dowjones even more.

one of the biggest myths is that it only effects old people. its just as dangerous with fat people and people who smoke. but there are so many folks making it about politics and sticking to their guns. blaming the media instead of accepting reality.

also the side effects. the country only has about 65,000 ventilators. those will get consumed by people infected. the dude who has a heart attack and needs one, likely wont get one and will probably die. to say nothing of all the drugs that come from china. if that disrupts supply chain...

Yeah, Italy just said stop bringing older people to the hospital. Cant wait for when I'm told my parents should die bc we are spending too many tax dollars that I paid. The NHS is to the breaking point there right now. But go on with how a government that cant even take a picture for a drivers license in an efficient manner would have the hell streamlined out of this if only their hands were on it. If just only...it would be a perfect fix

Not arguing for that right now. Just stating that the current system isn’t working and shouldn’t have to rely on profit. Peace.

you do realize Italy is ranked like 1 or 2 with France as the best health care system in the world right? You can get tested in italy no problem. Here you cant. in the USA its advised not to be tested until they ruled out the regular flu as well. China had to make make shift hospitals to meet with the demand. Dont think we cant be overwhelmed here in the usa as well. Very naive and short-sighted

Stay home if you can. Outside of work and grocery shopping there should be no reason to leave your home. Avoid bars, restaurants, libraries, parks, any public place where you could be in close proximity to people unless absolutely necessary

The virus spreads through the air. Simply standing next to and breathing in the same air as an infected person is all it takes. Surgical masks will not work, washing your hands will not work (although you should do that regardless)

There is so much misinformation out there right now. Just be overly cautious and stay safe

Im going to Disney parks for 4 days in a row tomorrow. I can’t wait. Hope the ride lines are short!

I've said it for weeks.

This will get worse before it gets better. The steps taken tonight are not enough. The only effective preventive measure is a complete lockdown.

It's a harsh reality, but that's the truth.

I've followed this since mid-January. I've seen the examples in China and Iran and Italy. Until we shut it all down, the virus will continue to spread.

Remember, we are six days behind the actual numbers, and those numbers are rising exponentially by the day.

For sure, but the mortality rate isnt the issue.

1%-2% of flu cases require hospitalization. 20% of the cases inflicted with this virus require hospitalization.

The fact is, we don't have those beds. Nobody does. Italy is already having to choose between who to save because there simply aren't enough supplies to go around to everyone.

If we don't shut everything down, you'll see that happen here, too.

The 4 % death rate is a joke.

“The fatality rate for coronavirus in South Korea is 0.7%. Globally the World Health Organization has reported 3.4% - but scientists estimate that the death rate is lower because not all cases are reported.”

Just read this about the H1N1 outbreak in 2009. Had no earthly idea. And it’s wikipedia, so not doubting it:

However, with about 150,000–575,000 fatalities, it had a much lower case fatality rate of 0.01-0.08%....As of mid-March 2010, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimated that about 59 million Americans contracted the H1N1 virus, 265,000 were hospitalized as a result, and 12,000 died.

59 million Americans?! A billion around the world?

I beat this thing at the end of last year. That being said now that I can't go to March madness I might lam it for my vacation just for the hell of it

Read something interesting today about the death rate:

  • China says its 3.4%
  • In Italy it’s over 5%, but that’s because the population is significantly older
  • A study published last month of the first 72,000 cases showed a death rate of 2.4%
  • “Experts” (which just means the ones they talked to for this article, who would say what the writer wanted to write) say there’s little chance that a death rate of over 3% can sustain, it will lower as there are more cases.....
