If cal resigns or is fired, who are legitimate options to replace him?

Bennet from Virginia comes to mind. I doubt jay wright would be interested but worth sniffing around. Again long shot but could sniff around brad stevens.

what are other good options?
Pearl, Musselman, Few, Tommy Lloyd and as a last resort...Pitino.
With Tony Bennet it's either feast or famine. Bruce Pearl would bury us with NCAA probation. Eric Musselman & Mark Few are a couple of drunks, we've had our share of those (Sutton & Gillispie). If a coach has a drinking problem this the UK job is the last place he needs to be.
The coaches that I would want to replace Calipari starts & ends with.... Jay Wright, Billy Donovan, Scott Drew, Brad Stevens & Tom Izzo.

The way fans get mad at Cal for "stall ball" this guy isn't the answer. He's got no concept of offensive basketball. Maybe UK could replace the rims with peach baskets.
Most just want a competent HC who does his job and puts the program first. Holtmann bleeds blue and probably isn’t going to cost a small fortune to get

Ralph do you have any opinions on a new coach? Do you know someone that might be off the radar that is a complete coach and could handle this job? Thanks

Right.....don't get things twisted. I fully understand being frustrated with Cal, but do yourself a favor. Watch a year of Chris Holtmann and tell me that UK fans would tolerate his BS? The #1 pet peeve of Cal as a game coach is often "stall ball". That's Holtmann's entire approach to the sport. Butler guys are about not scoring.

There are coaches who put the program first and actually care about getting elite players and letting them play. Kenny Payne said it best yesterday. You have to let the players play. But he was an elite player and understands that aspect which makes gives him the rare incite to relate.

This is an elite job and the line would be long for people wanting it. Just think this notion about Holtmann comes from many who really don't watch him/his teams play. Ohio State fans are sick of him. Many want him gone.

I’m just pointing out the guy is a KY fan and would put the program first. None of us will have a say who will be targeted or get the job.

Better coaches than Holtmann would put the program first and being a fan doesn't mean anything to me. You want the best HC. Cal was perfect for this job, but he's done what a lot of guys do, got complacent. Hard to get an edge back as you age and talk about crap nobody cares about hearing from you as a Coach (family, dogs, friends, politics, etc..) But what Calipari did from '10-15....you won't find anything better than that. Could he have won at least another....sure. But that run is delivering. What happened after '15 is he relaxed and got sloppy with coaching hires, recruiting, and the rest of conference improved to make things more difficult.

This is the type of job that when you feed it like you did initially.....you can't assume they'll settle for anything less and when criticism comes, you embrace it and don't feel sorry or tell them they are wrong. You work your entire career for a job like Kentucky and then to take away pressure (canceling IU, avoiding Maui/other big Tournaments in non conference) outside of the pressure you can't duck......it's insulting. Cal was a tough SOB and take on all comers to get where he got and now he's the fat cat who he always chided when climbing the coaching ladder. Do you really think the guy who was competing with you in '96 at UMass would resort to saying "It doesn't matter, so and so is a great friend of mine, happy for him". Nonsense. That crap is sound of a retiree.

Cal needs to invest/engage or retire. There's no need for someone dismissive of passion from a place that made it so he can hand generational wealth down to his kids, etc....and maybe someone should remind him that he begged for a job like this and wondered why others don't do more when they get it. Now you know. It's a 24/7, 365 day job and you better give a ***t because if you don't, the job will spit you out and find someone who will. We've reached that fork in road. Jump in with 2 feet or GTFOH and let someone who will take over. Just let it be anyone but Holtmann IMO. He isn't the guy to carry this job.

Even mentioning Bennett as a candidate should get someone banned. I'm not kidding
The guy won a title the next year. Lacking context and general IQ (you) shouldn’t get you banned, bc that logic is ridiculous and a scourge on society (cancel culture). But you’re an idiot. And I hope we let you keep posting, not ban you, so that sentiment becomes more widely established.

1. Billy Donovan if interested
2. Scott Drew
3. Rick Barnes (gets the most out of his players)
Rick Barnes would represent UK on and off the court in a first class humble gracious way. He does get the most out of his players, BUT, he is now in his 60s, I believe his wife is from the Knoxville area, and I am sure UT is his last stop.
