Outside of top tier blue bloods, Mack is running one of the better and more stable basketball programs in the country. Xavier will increase his salary no doubt, so money really isn't the issue.

If he is interested in big pay days and leaving Xavier, he will be in line for bigger opportunities than UL. In a few more years Duke, UNC, and Syracuse could all open. Hell, Michigan State could open next week. Also, he could quietly be on some NBA radars as well.
Mack is an excellent coach. He is now coaching a top ten team in one of the better BASKETBALL conferences. I live in Northern KY where he lives. My impression is that he will stay at X forever but he might leave in 5 years or so when his kids leave home. Then he might go to any job in the country. He is a poor man's Brad Stevens. He is not taking the Louisville job.. I certainly agree that Padgett has done an excellent job but the team will continue to deteriorate over the next few year when recruiting ill be horrid.

I talked to my buddy that's a big Xavier booster. He said, Mack is waiting on UL sanctions to get out. If it's not the death penalty then he will be gone. His wife is from Louisville and her family is still there. I don't think he leaves because Louisville is going to get hammered in my opinion.
Hell.is wife can coach dumpster fire U! (since she's from their!) Chris STAY at Xavier! Your will be fine....since she's from their!

Why are all you kitty fans so worries about who Louisville will hire as the next basketball coach? All you, people, seem to have a obsession with Louisville. Kinda pathetic if you ask me.

If I were a Card fan, I’d be thrilled with Mack. It’s hard to imagine them locking up one of the top HOF-caliber names right now.

Says the ghetto commuter school clown who posts on the UK forum. You low life cheating scum are irrelevant on the national scene and will be for years to come. Enjoy the NIT and 1986.

Mack would be a home run, best case hire for the cards. I just can't understand why someone at Mack's level would be interested in the job given the situation. I'd stick with Padgett,

Mack might have been born in Cleveland but went to HS at St. Xavier in Cincy.

You'd think by reading the UofL fan's posts, that Louisville it a top tier blueblood that coaches only dream of coaching for and that they're a founding member of the ACC.

I agree that no "top" coach is going to UL until all sanctions are handed out. That said, I don't really understand the Chris Mack love on here. His best 2 season's were the 2 following Miller. He was playing Miller's guys kinda like Tubby. His team's performed worse once they moved to the Big East and I wouldn't expect improvement when he moves to the ACC. He is a solid coach but more along the lines of Stallings at Vandy. Solid with the occasional very good team. I don't think UL fans would end up happy with Mack.
Uh, XU won the Big East for the first time this year.

Go on one of Louisville's message boards or read a few tweets from your average Louisville fan and try to tell me Kentucky's fans are the ones who are obsessed. [eyeroll]

Also, "kitty fans". Haha, that's cute. Y'know, I feel like if a rival team were 9-2 (9-1 if you throw out one vacated win Louisville had) against me in the last 11 meetings, and had just spanked my team's *** by 30 points less than three months ago, I'd have enough common sense not to try and run my mouth about them for awhile. But hey, I guess if you had any common sense, you wouldn't be a Cardinal fan, so...moot point, I suppose.

Also, keep in mind that the Louisville fan lurking on a UK board that had to both find and bump a two month old thread is the one calling others "obsessed". [roll]

Did you just use the words “Mack” and “HOF caliber” in the same sentence? Let’s slow down a good bit. Mack will be 50 years old next year. He’s won 69% of his games. His NCAA tournament record is 10-7. He has one Elite Eight finish to his credit. For frame of reference there are 351 D1 programs, and 6 active coaches are in the Hall of Fame. It is rarified air. There is absolutely nothing about Chris Mack that suggests he might one day be an all time great coach. He’s a good coach. Nothing more.

Hell no. I meant I’d take Mack since I don’t think any of the HOF-caliber coaches are available.

The same obsession that brings you to this board. But I can understand since your board, your team ain't worth **** and didn't have any basketball being played. How in the hell are you bringing up a thread almost a 1 1/2 months old. We play Northern Ky in 1st round of NCAAT's, not NIT's.

Kinda pathetic if you ask me.

Living in Louisville, this is the stuff you deal with daily

The majority of Kentucky fans are not only Cat fans, but college basketball fans as well. To U6 fans, their only knowledge of CBB is going to the Yum to get drunk and pretend it’s a party

Terrible fan base

Not sure Padgett is the sexy hire that UL wants, but you can't take away from the job he's done with the situation he's been put in.

I agree 100%. David has handled this situation with grace and dignity and not once did he ever throw his players under the bus nor did he ever make excuses. "THis is a tough situation and I and the players are dealing with it" is as close as he ever got to "blaming" anyone. Always took responsibility for losses/mistakes. Whenever he was asked about himself, he talked about focusing in getting these players through this season, never himself. Maybe David isn't the long-term answer now, but he will be HC for someone somewhere next year.

LOL. They are even on a 1st name basis with interim coaches. David. Rick. Bobby. Tom. Lamar. Katina.

I would think Mack would want some validation next season for bowing out so early this season. Media were calling it the "Best season ever for Xavier basketball."

Even though Xavier lost, then Mack could still probably squeeze the school for more money/longer contract. They WILL NOT let him walk. Financially speaking he has NO reason to leave and I do not think U6 (pending lawsuits) has the money to pay him.

U6 on the other hand is on probation and could EASILY get the death penalty within 2 years. A coach is responsible for communicating with their AD's, administrators, and boosters. The BOT are temps. Boosters have pulled their money. There are ZERO recruits for next season.

I do not know why U6 fans think they are going to pull a giant fish out of a puddle.

I thought Padgent had done enough for at least a two year contract, and I admired a young guy that showed nothing but class...even in improbable losses.
It seems the UofL fan base as a whole wants another coach, so more power to them. Imo that will be an extra two, three years on a re-tooling.
All teams make a choice though.

Lay off the smoke dude, If Mack is hired, recruits will come back. Romeo Langford will be the first

Bwahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!

Yeah, he's gonna play his one year in college at a school about to get smacked (again) with NCAA penalties and will probably have to sit out the tournament. Hell, I'm not sure these days which is more likely...you guys missing the tournament cause you've been caught cheating (again) and are forced to sit it out or missing it cause your team sucks and isn't good enough to get in.

lol not happening. It’s gonna take you idiots YEARS to recover from hiring prostitutes, vacated title (only school in history ) and FBI: pay for play scandal.

YEARS my friend.

Besides , Chris Mack... how’s he doing in the tourney this year? Better than the NiT i guess... so that’s a start for you guys
