All I know (meaning I suspect) that there is a whole generation of coaches who leaned from coaches who learned from coaches who went through boot camp because they were going to WAR. Actual war.

My high school basketball coach was a Marine veteran of Okinawa and later a DI at Parris Island.
Do you think he was tough? Do you think he yelled? I ended up being one of his assistants and loved the man as much as my own father until the day he died and thank God that he was a part of my life.
I guess we all have our own perspective of things.

I was surprised to see Izzo shout the "F YOU" at Gabe Brown, so I rewound my DVR and sure enough, that's what he said. That's their best player, who was breaking out of a slump in the game.

But then I thought, I couldn't see what Brown said on his way to the bench that made Izzo react. He probably was complaining about something, maybe a ref non-call or something one of our guys was doing, and Izzo was ticked at how the game was going, so *boom*.

If players still want to go play for him and he keeps winning, he's not going anywhere. He is as safe as can be until that happens, or unless video emerges of real physical abuse of a player.

I thought the "F" was pretty clear.. unsure on the "YOU" part... is that when the player got his third foul or was that something else?

Screaming yelling and swearing is all fine IMO and the team should fear the wrath of the coach... to an extent. What the F were you thinking is different than just yelling f u in your face. That doesn't motivate most youth these days

I had tough coaches and I responded to it personally. I didn't start as a junior and was 6th man and coach was up my butt about everything. Senior year I lead the conference in scoring and took on the other team's best player on D. I'm almost 38 and in my generation already people started to not respond to that type of coaching. A few good players didn't and just quit instead bc of it.

Today it's even further in that direction. A lot of kids just don't respond to that type of coaching anymore. Doesn't matter if you think it's good or bad some just flat out don't respond to it

I think Pike should rip his players on occasion at least. The threat of it has to be there to hold players accountable. Maybe he does it in private but 100% positive rah rah allllll the time I don't think is ideal either

Here’s what I find odd — people with sensitivities who want to impose them on someone else. I never had an issue with a coach yelling (and even cursing at me). Did it make me mad? Of course, but it also motivated me. Perhaps it doesn’t motivate someone else. Well, guess what, I’m not saying that every coach should yell and curse at every player. In fact, a good coach knows what it takes to motivate his/her players.

Society has changed (thankfully) and it is no longer acceptable for a person of power to yell **** YOU. He has pushed people and raised his fist to his players all in front of the world to watch.

Society hasn’t changed. A segment of society has changed. There are still many folks who haven’t changed on this issue (thankfully) and see no reason to. There are tons of colleges out there to go play basketball. I have no issue of people want to avoid Izzo, but he doesn’t need to change at all. He’s still developing great basketball players and fine men, many of whom regularly appear on the B1G network.
