I hate him during the game because he seems like a bully, loud mouth jerk. Glad he got T'ed up yesterday.

But in his summary comments after the game he was very complimentary of Geo, Paul, Rutgers and Pike.

That shows class.

As long as he brings his Spartans to the Jersey Mikes RAC...and keeps losing by 25+ / game, I'm ok with Izzo and MSU.

In fact I can't remember another coach in the B!G (i'm sure some one will) who is close to Pike and Izzo in terms of giving honest compliments:
it sure as hell isn't Michigan's 4th long lost Howard Brother: Moe, Curly, Shemp and Juwan.

MO
PS On another note, think we should ask RU athletic Dept / Jersey Mike's to change the name to "Jersey Mike's RAC"...seems like everyone (including announcers) are still referring to the RAC anyway.

Izzo cares.. really cares.. about how his team shows.. about the calls.. etc. And he cares about the game and that's why he is able to turn down the heat after a game. Compare him to that jerk at Iowa who whines and complains all game and then won't admit that the other team played great.

I sit near the opposing bench - izzo complained a fraction of what other coaches do. Maybe just one game but that’s what I observed yesterday.

By comparison the 3 main Maryland coach’s (Danny Manning and the two assistants who seem to do the actual coaching - cause manning sure didn’t) spent the whole game bitching

He has always said good things about Rutgers. As an opposing coach its hard to say anything bad about Pike though. Nice guy. Class act. Wants his guys to play hard defense and rebound.
I'll be rooting for Izzo/ MSU in games that don't involve Rutgers: Re- Beat Michigan ...so Juwan knows who just kicked his @$$.

Beat Ohio State....since they stole our Scarlet - We are the original's (back to the 1869 game) not the duplicators.

Beat them all: Go RU!!!

Izzo needs to go. He goes way over the line. This 2022 and not 1990.

Sorry if this offends the crowd that likes to use snowflake.

you treat people with respect. I like our coach. He does it the right way

And they were winning the whole time.

Since Maryland won at Jersey Mike's Arena, maybe Izzo and his assistants should do what Maryland coaches did.

What are you talking about? How does Izzo not show people respect? Show your work.

I really don't get the infatuation some have w post game pressers from opposing coaches. Most are bs anyway so who cares?

i kinda get it. I mean I don’t seek them out but if it comes on after the game and I’m still in front of the tube I’ll watch it

it is slightly interesting to see their comments. Seeing izzo kinda tell it like is and be complimentary vs the whiney ***** from Iowa who doesn’t give the other team credit (a window into the types of people they are? Maybe?)

again, not gonna seek it out tho.
frankly same with our pressers. Pike says the same thing every game so you really get nothing. Not necessarily a bad thing really

Izzo strikes me as a really good coach and when Pike mentions that, I would guess Pike's not just coaching-speaking about it.

Funny thing about the game yesterday. Lot of people here give Pike grief because he never intentionally gets himself T'd to "fire up the team" or "play the refs" or whatever. I think we saw, yesterday, that doing that can either backfire or have zero impact (other than costing some free points for the other team).

After Izzo's T, neither his team nor the refs got any better for MSU. If anything, his team got worse and the refs let a ton of contact go the rest of the game. I mean contact that most other refs will call (body contact in shots, for example, pretty physical fighting over picks, etc.).

I think the refs let it go both ways, so not saying there was favoritism for either side in the calls. But allowing very physical play usually favors RU whereas calling touch-fouls usually puts RU in early foul trouble. And I have to think the refs get to know the teams, so they probably understand that calling it tight can hurt RU more than teams with a bunch of pure shooting and/or more athletic players.

I swear there have been so many close games over the years with refs deciding the game that I'm waiting for Al Gor (the robotic Siri / Alexa algorithm) to replace the refs once and for all.

PS And yes PI regarding Al Gore!

As great as Izzo is , he probably should have found a way to win one more national title.
He has also had some clunkers in the tournament . That’s why it’s March madness.

Izzo’s former players love him. It’s ok to yell at someone. Tough love is still a thing even if it offends some.
99% of Bob Knight's former players love the man. Was there anyone tougher on his guys then Bob Knight?
If you're the right guy you can do that. Izzo can't be such a monster. Kids still want to play for him.
He grabbed a player's shirt at half of a NCAA game? Big deal.
Guys who go and play for coaches like Knight and Izzo know what they're buying into from day one. Some of them don't want to do it (Larry Bird). He's a really, really tough coach? No fooling.

Fig, I think you’re off here. Someone above mentioned recruits know what they’re in for, and Bobby Knight also came up. These guys recruit kids for their system, and the kids going there have their eyes wide open going in. If it’s not for them they should play for a “nicer“ coach, whatever that means. But don’t kid yourself there are MANY tough coaches out there.

If his approach is too tough for kids, then I’ll say this, those kids would NEVER make it in the military, on most any football team, in law enforcement, and in many other professions and sport. In many professions, unions, sorts teams, etc. your co-workers, teammates, and peers are as tough on each other as the coach.

Izzo is tough, if that might offend you then don’t play for him. And before you throw out examples worthy of offense, I AM NOT saying lines are never crossed, they are, I’m just old school and it has to be truly egregious to offend me or to want to cancel someone. Especially a man that has players that love and respect him and what he has done for them.

You say he has to go, I say people that want to cancel everything that offends them is what needs to go.

Tough isn’t yelling at players. Is a man who verbally abuses his girlfriend or wife tough?
He might be.. not enough data.

That's the thing.. you don't know if it is just being tough to toughen up the player/PERSON because that is what they need.. or if it is ABUSE because that is what the coach "needs".

All I know (meaning I suspect) that there is a whole generation of coaches who leaned from coaches who learned from coaches who went through boot camp because they were going to WAR. Actual war.

That is where all this stuff derives.. hazing in frats and gangs and locker rooms as well (we can all agree that is complete BS I'd hope.. "Damn Right I ordered the CODE RED!")

Maybe there is a way to get trainees for physically tough "games" to be tough with all the kindness and respect and handling that you think is more 2020s than 1990s (and before)... but that is not how a bunch of WINNING coaches learned to do it... it is not how THEY were taught.

But.. C'mon.. equating Izzo or even Booby Knight with a domestic abuser?

C'mon....

It really all depends on the total dynamic of the coach/player relationships. If Frank Costanza were the coach the players would understand it’s just in his nature to yell and scream. Cursing is almost irrelevant these days.

If you’re saying Izzo does this then you’re moving the goalpost. Does he? We’re talking above about his coaching. I don’t wach TMZ or the View or read People magazine so again I have no idea what his private life is. Abuse is wrong and if it exists then that’s for him, his GF and his wife to work out what to do.

Sounds like you don’t like him so you’re changing a basketball discussion to a discussion about his family character… because your basketball argument is weak.
