Maybe the bahamas was the ceiling for this team.

With thoughts of making an nba team, wonder who's going to perform sub-par this year in the ncaa? Do you blame them for this mentality though? NBA players make a lot of money.

If I were in their shoes, I'd want money from nil and a chance at making lottery draft night...seriously most teams that do well in march don't end up on the lottery draft night for some reason. There might be a hand full from the top march teams that make the lottery.

I don’t want to hear excuses with this team. I just don’t. 4 or 5 regular season losses is ok, and we should be thinking big picture with this group. But I don’t want to hear excuses.
I’d say Cal is simply speaking the truth, not just making excuses. Unfortunately, a lot of UK fans can’t handle that.

Yep...what concerns me is if he knows something he isn't saying publically. Is Oscar not going to be ready for game 1? Is Wheeler going to be out and extended period of time?

Time will tell....he could also be underselling intentionally to over deliver. Wouldn't be the worse tactic ever.
Yeah I thought about maybe he is undersellung to over deliver as well but I have never really known him to do that but I hope so...

If you watch basketball, you know Oscar could of made an immediate impact in the nba...and thats based off of last years performance in college. it makes me sick to know that he could make an nba roster but decided to stay. Sick because you got to wonder who in there right mind tells the npoy to stay another year. I drink the cal kool aid, if your ready, you should deserve the limelight. Why is Oscar not reaping the benefits of the nba yet? Our only reason should be, because he wants a championship ring.

All the big guys like him stayed. Bacot, Timme, Oscar. Nba didn’t want them.

I don’t know, Oscar is unreal but his jump shooting isn’t where it needs to be for NBA teams to play him

I see a loss at Gonzaga, and maybe one other neutral game before Christmas. I expect us to go undefeated at Rupp. I think 6-3 on the road in the SEC is reasonable, and we should be a lot better at the start of conference play.

So I'll go with 26-5 in the regular season. Struggling early is one thing, but losing any more than 2 games before Christmas is not going to bode well for us getting to the Final Four.

Yes exactly true and I already feel like that's what Cal is going to do is sit Thiero on the bench and make comments about how he's just behind etc..this video is very concerning wtf is going on? Anyone with eyes can see Thiero is a winning basketball player but because he wasn't as highly touted Cal is going to make it seem like he's not ready.
This.

I think Cal realizes that:

1) Wheeler hasn’t improved anything. He still can’t shoot. He still makes ill-advised passes. He still can’t finish in the paint if his left hand it taken away. He’s a liability in the half court.

2) Collins still doesn’t have a clue.

3) His extremely raw center that just arrived is able to impact the game much more than Lance Ware, but he needs to be loyal to the lesser player.

4) Livingston isn’t the first round pick Cal thought he was.

5) Wallace might be the better PG, but he can’t bench his boy Wheeler. And Wallace has some holes in his game too, including questionable shot selection.

6) Toppin does some things very well and is a tremendous athlete, but the biggest weakness in his game - the one thing that could make him a very rich man - his handles, have not improved one iota. How does a dude not work on that all off-season?

7) Fredrick could spend portions of this season in a boot.

8) Thiero is the best player in the freshman class in terms of knowing where to be, what to do, making the open shot, and playing sound, fundamental basketball - but because he’s a three-star dude, he can’t possibly play him more than 10mpg.

9) Oscar’s supporting cast may not be better than it was last year.

According to the sports writers and preseason rankings - plenty of people think it’s one of the most talented rosters.
I didn't say it wasn't one of the most talented. Duke probably has the most sheer talent, that doesn't mean they'll be a great team. UNC is just as talented. Arkansas probably has more talent.

So yeah. The Bahamas performance was in the summer and was glorified pick-up ball. The exhibition game just happened. Right before the season starts. Against D2 dudes. And we were awful.

So yeah they were both exhibition games that count for absolutely nothing.

And if we win by 40 next exhibition everything is a-ok I guess lol.

And what if your hypothetical 40 point win doesn’t happen? (It won’t, btw) Do you have another excuse at the ready?

You just keep drinking the kool-aid bud. When Cal takes off, you going to take off with him?

Paklids. A month ago it was ONG were invincible after the August illusion. Then after a pretend game with several injuries where we held a sad team to under 40, some were utterly despondent. Now Cal says expect us to get better through Nov and Dec and we see comparisons to 2013.

No wonder fans of other teams come here to crap. It’s fish in a barrel.

Several injuries? Who besides Oscar didn't play?

...at least for November and December. Pretty sobering assessment. Sounds like he knew people were jacked after the Bahamas and expecting more than this team could deliver -- at least early.

"We're not where we want to be right now...We could be a little shaky (in November and December.)"
And, "What we have to do to win at the highest level is going to take us some time..."
I think the last time he was this blunt was before the 2013 season.

Nothing wrong with what he said. I much prefer we play good in March than the beginning of the year. Some on here want us to be in Championship form the first game. That is not realistic.

Having finally watched the video, all I can say is what the hell?! That was equal amounts of bizarre and enfuriating. I'm in the boat w/ the faction who thinks we have everything we need on the roster to win, win big, and win out of the gate. If you deliver less than that Cal, BBN will want to know why, again, you're underperforming.

I'm pretty sure Wallace was 1of4 from 3 Sunday.. CJ was 4of6
Didn’t know we take a one game stat and relate it to the upcoming season. I may be wrong about him but at least add in the Bahamas Trip stats for a larger sample size.

Cal resides right where he wants with all fans. He has staff look at these post. He loves the attention and loves to confuse the masses. Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain kind of thing. He puts out this fodder to take people talking one way to put question marks in their heads. Keep on posting the we are in trouble stuff and he will do another video that he says "I love my team", Wheeler is not missing in practice, Adiou is unstoppable and so forth. Just so we change our thought process again. Just sit back and wait and see what we have good or bad. We will know by SEC Play. Enjoy the ride.

Agree, that’s why the staff not getting another scorer should be considered malpractice
