But it’s not. And any reasonable person that’s followed basketball for a reasonable length of time knew it couldn’t last You can’t replace your entire roster nearly every year and expect cohesion. I don’t know who in their right mind thinks that’s the way to win championships.its called embarrassing loss / play fatigue. if the one and done was doing what it did in the first 5 years... we'd be fine with it
I don't think Cal is worrying about trying to win championships anymore. That fire went out in 2015.But it’s not. Not sure he was ever concerned with it myself.I don't think Cal is worrying about trying to win championships anymore. That fire went out in 2015.
This is worse then Tubby's later years as far as fan backlash.
That was you laughing out loud? Strange. My ears aren’t what they used to be. Sounded to me like someone trying to push a wet noodle through a straw.LOL. No.
I remember hearing him telling Helen (I think) after that 2012 championship “we got that out of the way and do have to worry about it anymore”.

Naw, never tried it myself. Only time I hear that noise is when you and your twin post. Like I said, just strange.Really cool response there. I expect you have experience in that area.
so he won one and made it to the title game in another without even trying?
Naw, never tried it myself. Only time I hear that noise is when you and your twin post. Like I said, just strange.
Oh I believe he was trying, to get as many players drafted as possible. I don’t believe his priority was winning the championship or getting to the final game. Because I believed what he said from day one.
not exactly true. We just haven't gotten the players the last 6 years. To win and win big with one and dones you need them to be Wall, Cousins, Davis, MKG, KAT, Knight, and Randle types. We just haven't gotten those guys in the last 6 years. The one year we were closest to winning it again in the last 6 not surprisingly was Fox, Monk, Bam who were close to that tippy top tier. Cal needs the best players just the way it is. That is his strategy, it's a good one if you're getting them when you're not and you have no actual coaching strategy to fall back on with lesser talent and no older players you DOA.But it’s not. It figures though. Tubby didn't go 1-5.This is worse then Tubby's later years as far as fan backlash.
We all have our own opinions. I respect yours. Just don’t agree.that sounds like coaching to get guys drafted actually works sometimes. I personally don’t think that is what happened.
I think you remember reading someone else on this board say that in the last few days. If you actually remembered that, you could probably remember her name.I remember hearing him telling Helen (I think) after that 2012 championship “we got that out of the way and do have to worry about it anymore”.
Keller, our shooting coach!Who's Helen?
Really cool response there. I expect you have experience in that area.
Yes. It was for the fans. He wasn’t concerned about winning a title.I remember hearing him telling Helen (I think) after that 2012 championship “we got that out of the way and do have to worry about it anymore”.
PervBass, I'm not going to respond, to your responding to a wet noodle.
OLD STOLL FIELD GUY!
I thought it was an act . He’s trying to play the pity card .Looking at Cal's body language in that press conference, he looks like a defeated man who is out of answers.
He might talk about how the season starts in March, but from my vantage point our postseason starts after Louisville. We ride into the SEC with a six-game losing streak then we better win every game after that because we'll have zero quality wins without many chances to get other quality wins and get a tournament resume together. We're going to have to win the SEC Tournament too to get in.
I do think Tubby had more staunch supporters back then than Cal does now . Maybe it just seems that way .LOL. No.
I do remember that.Cal was so despondent after the game he tried to shoot himself: but he missed! Sorry couldn’t resist that old joke I first heard about Joe B after the Georgetown debacle in the FF
We are the gold standard.
1-4 against Kansas in our last 5 games.
1-4 against Duke in our last 5 games.
Again, according to Cal, we are the gold standard.

I don't disagree at all I was just saying if it's going to be all one and dones they literally need to be the 5 best ones in the country every year. I've said til I was blue in the face that DLamb is the most important player of the Cal era in terms of on court wins. He get no credit for being the the leading scorer, the bucket getter, free throws, 3pt's, etc....Don’t even think those type of players are enough alone. After all, Wall, Cousins and Bled weren’t enough for a final four. The next year we made the final four not just with top talent but with 3 year Liggins and 4 year Harrelson coming up huge.
Then our championship year honestly seems more like dumb luck than design as time passes on. Not only a generational talent in AD, a generational great attitude in MKG, two studs in Dlamb and TJones returning with final four experience due to NBA lockout, and a senior role player in Miller, plus Teague comes up clutch making 3s. All those pieces fit together perfectly too, the one overlap in MKG/Miller just so happened to have Mr selfless in MKG asking for Miller to start over him.
