So during the middle of us trying to win the SEC and NCAA tournaments, Cal is negotiating with UCLA. Color me shocked.... not.

Yeah. Can't take any committee seriously that ended up with Mick Cronin.

Or believe any of their statements. "Anonymous sources whose entire job was to not mess this up but who messed it up spectacularly tell us that John Calipari was just about to take the job but despite getting everything he asked for decided not to at the last minute."

Sure, pal. Sure.

The big issue here that everyone seems to casually ignore is the time frame. Cal was negotiating with UCLA when he was supposed to be giving his total concentration on winning tournament games for us. This pisses me off. Say what you want. Explain it off anyway you want. In my mind he gets no free pass on this. We lost on Sunday and his lifetime contract was announced on Monday which means he had been talking with UCLA during the tournament.
That theory is way overblown. Do you think he talked to his wife during the tournament? Did he have dinner? Did he sleep? It would have taken very little of Cal’s time. Most of it would have been done via his agent. He didn’t watch film 24 hours a day 7 days a week during the tournament. Never understood people getting mad about this. Even is he did do this, it would have no effect on UK’s performance on the court

It also happened between the SEC and NCAA Tournament, but anyone complaining doesn't actually care about the truth or the timeline.

Tony Bennett and Chris Beard both told them no during the NCAA Tournament. Seemed to work out okay.

Yes, it's not like he was sitting down across the table from the UCLA AD and administration in an ACTUAL face to face negotiation. Bruins guy sends a text. Cal answers it. He sends another. Cal answers, and so on. There is also a thing called facetime or other video calling apps. And yes, the agent was likely doing negotiating, also. This is a tempest in a teapot.

If you could double your income and move to California you'd be a fool to do so.

KSR seems to be trying to follow the classic successful athlete’s model. Have success and make money. Open restaurant. Talk out both sides of mouth or say/do something crazy and lose support. Bankruptcy is the usual next step followers by the occasional tv appearance as a commentator. Tick tock.

Its news about our coach bruh, in the LA Times. Of course they're going to post it. Doubt they'll be filing for bankruptcy anytime soon. The bar is doing extremely well. One of the busiest bars in Lex.

It takes no effort or taking his focus away from the team to tell his agent "see what UCLA is willing to offer and I'll look at it when our season is over". Who cares.

Is this really news. I’m sure Cal loves UK but if UCLA offered double everything he’d be a fool not to think hard about it and wouldn’t surprise if he accepted if that was the case. No different than the rest of us. I’m sure many love living in UK if they grew up there and want to stay there forever but if California offered you double what you make and would pay for moving, your house, etc you'd also be a fool not to consider and potentially take it

I wouldn't live in California if they upped my salary by 10. I'm dead serious. That state is a hell-hole and getting worse by the day.

Lol, Well yeah, if UCLA offered him $17- $19 million a year (double as you say) he probably would think about it but that didn’t happen did it?

If xyz company offered me double my salary I’d be a fool not to listen, but guess what? They didn’t.

Anybody can Randomly make up scenarios my friend.

If he was seriously considering leaving UK because UCLA was willing to pay him a lil more then I don't think that speaks very highly of his character. I mean he will never be able to spend all of his money anyway. I guess loyalty doesn't go very far with most people nowadays. And before people say well he left Memphis for UK that is not a fair comparison. Memphis is a mid major and not a blue blood.

Lifetime contract. Facts. Better get used to it brother

You guys care way too much about politics. From weather to lifestyle, there's basically something in California for everyone.

If LA isn't for you, I get that. But California isn't just LA, and there are very few civilized places I wouldn't move for 10x my yearly pay, especially with adult children like Cal has.

I didn't mention politics. Homeless tents litter the streets of the major cities, with open drug use and human feces all over the place. People of any political stripe should be repulsed by that.

Which is the case for certain parts of most major cities throughout the world. Like I said, if someone meant LA, fine. I get it.

But to say California as a whole seems crazy to me. Mountains, beaches, small towns, gigantic cities, virtually any culture you're looking for--I think anyone willing to try could find happiness there. It's probably the most diverse state as far as living environments.

No, not if you have the "best job in college basketball"
If you get a lesser coach, then they won't flirt and no one will want them...

Great coaches are ambitious...great coaches are offered.

I'd rather be dealing with this...than feeling good about...say Archie Miller being happy where he is and not being looked at by other schools...

Actually, it’s more likely, the texts or calls went to Cals agent. Doubtful Cal was directly involved.

Lol. Jones trying to sensationalize.

Anyone with a shred of understanding about how this works can see straight through this transparent nonsense.

Cal got the contract he wanted. Case closed.

UCLA is just a name. Cal wouldn’t dare try that wasteland but he would use the name to get a LIFETIME contract at the top program in the land. Sure.

California is in massive decline and there’s no doubt about it. Now it might be for you, but California isn’t attracting people, it’s losing them, and it’s for a reason. Let’s not try that.

There are dozens of places you could live in California and have zero idea about this "massive decline."

That might be true man, but so is the “massive decline” that has become California and it can’t be helped that it’s due in part to political policy. It’s not debatable. People pointing that out aren’t wrong.

California is losing far more people than want to be there and that has never been that way until the last couple of decades.

It’s not the weather keeping them away man. At some point it just has to be accepted for what it is and not what people want it to be.

I like Cal and always have but that is where you are wrong. You don't flirt when you continually tell the basketball world that you have the best job in college and I would not want to be anywhere else.
He was never going to leave. It was about getting a better deal from UK. It worked. That’s why he is a good businessman.

Matt Jones would be a low life court-appointed attorney right now if he didn't have a UK fan base to ***** off of.

Matt Jones doesn’t need me to defend him but please explain to me how an article from a Los Angeles newspaper has anything to do with Matt Jones? I’m seriously beginning to question the collective IQ of the “I hate Matt Jones” crowd.
