That's just it though: most of us feel quite certain he WON'T change his philosophy/system in order to right the ship. The Cal that arrived at UK is no longer; instead we now have a Cal whose only concern seems to be that of a coach only concerned about how many players he can get to the NBA, and his legacy.
His attitude towards the fans appears to be one of contempt and disdain; it's as though he thinks he's the only person in the state who knows anything about the game of basketball. He needs to get out more and talk to UK fans across the state, because he will learn that there are many of us who DO understand the game quite well. Housewives, doctors, teachers, plumbers, nurses, retired welders

, etc, etc, etc, can speak intelligently about the concepts and various aspects of the game with him. He knows we're "crazy", but I think he'd be surprised to learn there are many of us who grasp said concepts of the game, and make no mistake, it is a GAME. We're not talking about physics or rocket science here Cal, we know the game here in Kentucky, so when you act like you're some kind of savant who knows all kinds of secrets and aspects of the game that we aren't privy to, it insults us as a fan base.
He should have kept his political opinions to himself; he's probably the most public figure in the state, and politics are not part of his job description, period. I don't give a damn that he's a "woke" liberal, but most of us are NOT and take offense at his, and the team's, embarrassing public displays of kneeling and supporting a domestic terrorist organization like BLM. There is NO PLACE for ANY kind of political posturing in college sports programs, none. That alone is enough to make many of us, myself included, upset with him because it was uncalled for.
The biggest issues with Cal though are those that have been talked about ad nauseam here, and they simply can't be ignored. It's way past time for Cal admit his system no longer is workable, to begin building better, more sustainable rosters, to stop recruiting guys who have no observable basketball skills and guys who have long wingspans and who can jump to the rafters, and instead recruit those who can actually help the team by being good at all aspects of the game.
I admit, I'm sick of the slow decline of our beloved program over the past 5 or so years; I'm sick of him playing his 5 stars when they're obviously not ready and only hurting the team; I'm sick of him talking down to the fans like we're just too simple minded to grasp the concepts of the game, and I'm sick of his inability to implement a modern offense.
Yes, I'm grateful he came in when he did and helped bring back the great UK program, but he's NOW gotten us on a severe downward spiral with no end in sight because of his stubbornness and his refusal to change. He said it himself: this job has a shelf life, and his is up.
