Some fans just do not like Calipari and have not liked him from day one. They want a coach that’s loyal to the university but there isn’t one, they are about the money. Someone will bring up Mark Few but I think Few stays at Gonzaga because there is no pressure and he can have multiple double digit loss seasons and no one is calling for him to be fired, not because he is loyal to Gonzaga. It’s job security and getting rich while beating teams in that mediocre conference.

Before the last couple of years Cal had the support of damn near the entire fan base and 90% of this board. Most everyone here that actively posted loved Cal and supported him. 8/10 active
Posters here were on the Cal train and were very positive of Cal. So while there were some never-cals it was mostly
Positive and joyful of Cal on this board so don’t get it twisted and insinuate soooo many people have had long standing issues amen Cal my friend.

Cals complete and utter demise and embarrassing fall from Grace with the fan base is based on facts and the current and future model and vision for Kentucky which is not sustainable. It’s at least not enjoyable.

I would be very happen to see Cal hang it up or move on. There is a huge number of fans that agree with me and I swear to you I’m NOT a dumbass so I wish you wouldn’t call me one.
That’s funny, most of the fans that I talk to daily understand that this wasn’t a normal season, no they are not happy about losing but they understand the situation. Get another coach in here and in five years this place will be calling for him to be fired for whatever reason. Barnhart got lucky with Gillespie not signing his contract, he won’t be so lucky next time.

This is probably correct. But many of us will continue to call him out and give criticism when absolutely warranted.

It’s currently absolutely warranted and I don’t see that changing any time soon.
Cal’s not above criticism, it comes with the job but to want him gone after this season is crazy. The schedule was jacked up as was everything down to the practices.

You’re correct. This absolutely was not a normal season and I understand that. It doesn’t change the fact that Cal has changed. He’s more hard headed and controversial. He throws darts at the fans. He screams and yells like a maniac. Etc etc. His 10 mil per year performance is declining. It’s been said numerous times that this job is hard and has a shelf life. I just feel like he’s about at wits end and maybe needs to walk away.

He's done to much for the program to not support him right now. there have been seversl things this year that have shortened my leash with him, but at this point the man has done far more in the positive. give him a chance to right the ship, I'm sure he will.
That's just it though: most of us feel quite certain he WON'T change his philosophy/system in order to right the ship. The Cal that arrived at UK is no longer; instead we now have a Cal whose only concern seems to be that of a coach only concerned about how many players he can get to the NBA, and his legacy.

His attitude towards the fans appears to be one of contempt and disdain; it's as though he thinks he's the only person in the state who knows anything about the game of basketball. He needs to get out more and talk to UK fans across the state, because he will learn that there are many of us who DO understand the game quite well. Housewives, doctors, teachers, plumbers, nurses, retired welders :) , etc, etc, etc, can speak intelligently about the concepts and various aspects of the game with him. He knows we're "crazy", but I think he'd be surprised to learn there are many of us who grasp said concepts of the game, and make no mistake, it is a GAME. We're not talking about physics or rocket science here Cal, we know the game here in Kentucky, so when you act like you're some kind of savant who knows all kinds of secrets and aspects of the game that we aren't privy to, it insults us as a fan base.

He should have kept his political opinions to himself; he's probably the most public figure in the state, and politics are not part of his job description, period. I don't give a damn that he's a "woke" liberal, but most of us are NOT and take offense at his, and the team's, embarrassing public displays of kneeling and supporting a domestic terrorist organization like BLM. There is NO PLACE for ANY kind of political posturing in college sports programs, none. That alone is enough to make many of us, myself included, upset with him because it was uncalled for.

The biggest issues with Cal though are those that have been talked about ad nauseam here, and they simply can't be ignored. It's way past time for Cal admit his system no longer is workable, to begin building better, more sustainable rosters, to stop recruiting guys who have no observable basketball skills and guys who have long wingspans and who can jump to the rafters, and instead recruit those who can actually help the team by being good at all aspects of the game.

I admit, I'm sick of the slow decline of our beloved program over the past 5 or so years; I'm sick of him playing his 5 stars when they're obviously not ready and only hurting the team; I'm sick of him talking down to the fans like we're just too simple minded to grasp the concepts of the game, and I'm sick of his inability to implement a modern offense.

Yes, I'm grateful he came in when he did and helped bring back the great UK program, but he's NOW gotten us on a severe downward spiral with no end in sight because of his stubbornness and his refusal to change. He said it himself: this job has a shelf life, and his is up.

What was so jacked up about the schedule and practices that it causes them to be 5-10? Or not run any type of offense whatsoever. What type of offense does the team run right now? Specifically what offensive sets and schemes have you noticed from this years squad? Or just what is Cals offense in general? Why have the “jacked up practices and games” not affected every other team?

I just want a coach that values the program more than getting players drafted.
If the players go pro why not use that as a recruiting tool. And the players leaving even though they are not ready, I don’t know what he is supposed to do to make them stay. I would like to know what Kansas, LSU, Gonzaga and Baylor are doing to keep their players in school.

I wonder what they think about clowns who are contrary just to be contrary? You’ve been exposed as being a troll. I get being a troll and it can be fun but you’ve taken it to an entirely different level.

We know Cal will not be fired. You keep repeating that but we all know.

What will happen is 90% of this board will continue to criticize him as that is what he deserves. You were the ring leader of bashing Cal and the team for years. I mean you bashed them in game threads all the time. You would make your own threads bashing Cal and the team and wanted him fired but now all of a sudden you’re his biggest defender...

It basically just proves you have very little life outside of Rupps Rafters. You get a thrill off of being a contrarian. It’s weird. Are you lonely and lacking physical intimacy and companionship? Your avatar of some random half naked woman you found on a google image search is probably the most intimacy you’ve had in some time, isn’t it?

How many teams have ten new players with six of them being freshman? Veteran teams know the offense so there won’t be much teaching just coaching games. This offense has averaged in the mid seventies up until this year I believe difference is what I noted above.
At the start of the season cal said that due to the pandemic he was only able to have two or three on the court at one time and eventually they allowed five, now imagine trying to teach an offense in a situation like that.
Now I do blame Calipari for mishandling roster and his staffs inability to evaluate talent. This he can fix and I expect he will.

Who's responsible for having 10 new players? Who's responsible for never having upperclassmen that he recruited? Who's responsible for all of this mess? It isn't Covid. I'll tell you that. I'll help you out, it's Cal.

I read it, but I read your whole message and felt you were making excuses. The greater point is also that it isn't about one terrible season; it's that you're seeing the culmination of many factors, and some of you don't see those factors as the reason.

It’s not an excuse, it’s the truth. Calipari is to blame for the roster but if you look over the college basketball landscape and see it’s happening to most of the young teams, it’s just hitting UK harder because they had to replace the whole roster except for two players held over from last year. I imagine Cal doesn’t want to go through this again and no coach enjoys losing.

Nobody has young rosters like we do. Perpetually young rosters. That's Cal's system he has in place. I mean it just is. Now that those freshmen aren't as good as they used to be, and he can't get the best, you're seeing the fallout.

I support Cal 100%. I don't want any other coach. Yes, he's having a bad year. I hate the losing. I hate that he seemed to have missed on these players but everyone else wanted them too.

From my perspective the vast majority wanting Cal gone has nothing to do with basketball. And that's fine if that's how you feel about it. Just be honest about it.

I've seen a few people admit that it's all about politics. But very few.

So you’re saying that the head coach at the university of Kentucky needs to get out and go talk to the people around the state about the basketball???? Are you serious???😂

Downward spiral? It’s one bad year! Sometimes things just go bad and this season is an example of that. Players haven’t played up to what we believed they would, injuries and not getting to practice al summer hurt this team. Some of y’all neee to step away from the edge. Good lord😂😂😂

No, I wasn't serious, duh. Cal seems to hold the fans' knowledge about the game in low regard, and that ticks a LOT of us off.

Yes, we most certainly have been on a downward spiral; it's a shame you can't see that Scotty. Have you not been paying attention to our embarrassing losses to lesser teams? Have not noticed our record over the past 5 or six years against top 20 teams? IIRC, someone here posted that record at 22-21. That is NOT ACCEPTABLE at Kentucky, it just isn't.

Some Cal apologists have tried to use Covid as an excuse, like no other school has had to deal with it, lol. Using the virus as an excuse for our horrid play is just that: an excuse.

Most of us don't expect a title every year; we realize that's not attainable. What IS attainable is better roster creation, an actual offense, recruiting guys who actually have, you know, basketball skills, rather than guys who are nothing more than great athletes who try to play basketball.

There are many, many coaches who could come here and win, so to say Cal is practically the only one who is capable of that is lunacy, yet we have some fans who think he's a great coach who can do no wrong. It's BEYOND obvious Cal is a terrible in game coach, terrible. Perhaps he used to be, but now he isn't.

If I thought he would change, along with no longer talking down to the fans and keeping his political opinions to himself, I would say OK, give him another year, but we all know he will not do any of that.

Cal's "shelf life" here at UK has expired, it's time for us to part ways.

Cal is the chosen one, he was deemed worthy to navigate us through the toughest of storms and pillage, he will get us back to our rightful place.

Here's to everything he's done for the community, the program and most of all, BBN! He deserves a pay raise at the end of this year, for all of his sacrifices.

I actually do. I don’t begrudge him for one bad year at all. I just see that he’s changed his demeanor as a person, the way he coaches, the way he goes nuts on the sideline etc. I believe the thing that gets me the most is his cheap shots at the fans. Some of the BBN are over the top but most UK fans are the best fans in college basketball by far. They support UK better than any other fan base and he’s throwin’ some shade at the fans now. I’m NOT angry, NOT burning my gear etc. I just feel like I’d like to see him go and I honestly think UK basketball will be fine.

I'm still on board, but admit I would like to see Cal make some changes and he has screwed the pooch a few too many times this year. He can still turn it around, but man we are running out of time and got to get going. After GA we have 5 straight Quad 1 games against 4 ranked teams. That is pretty much our season and the turnaround has to be now. In the next 6 we need to go 4-2, anything less than 3-3 with no SEC Tourney this year and it's probably over this year. If so I hope the guys that should return do like last year and in a normal year, I still believe Cal can get it done. But again it's time for some changes for sure.
