How has he done the last 5 or 6 years? I'm like Woody Hayes, I don't like the direction were going.

OLD STOLL FIELD GUY!
Last five-six years?

Well, in the last six NCAA tournaments, 2014-2019, he played in a championship game, played in a Final Four, lost in the Elite Eight on a desperate shot to the eventual champion and lost in the Elite Eight in overtime. I have no doubt the team, with the best guards in the country, was poised to do well last year. Covid-19 intervened. For the record, I don't blame that on Calipari.

They didn't play the SEC tournament last year. In the FIVE years before that, Kentucky won FOUR.

Kentucky won the SEC conference outright last year.

Any of that ring a bell?

Still support Cal. I think he’s earned the opportunity to fix his mess.

I think he’s done a bad job this season. Not playing his best players and bizarre substitution patterns have pissed me off.

I expect a big turnaround next year. One more year like this and I’ll jump off the Cal boat.

Do I support the coach who has the most Final Four and Elite Eight appearances of anyone in America this decade, who won outright last year's SEC, who delivered a championship and has had Kentucky in the hunt almost every year of his tenure, and who has Oscar Tschwiebe, Daimion Collins, Bryce Hopkins and Nolan Hickman signed to join a robust roster of returnees?

LOL. The fact that it is a question shows the imbecility and immaturity of the small slice of Kentucky's fan base represented on this board.

For the record: Yes.
Can you ever give an opinion without hurling insults? And the mods wonder why threads go off the rails.

Agree with this. Also he screwed the pooch on this crop of top 10 5 stars. Too hardheaded to admit it I think.

He has earned the chance to see what next year looks like. In my mind we should have a good nucleus of returning players from this year. Good players that have NBA potential but will be great sophomores. And then we have a good recruiting class that may add more. Add in that this team hasn’t had the crowds that normally roar and provide that at home spark, Cal deserves at least one more season.

I just have a sneaking feeling our season officially turns on Wed in Athens.

They are not good and minus fans will have no advantage over UK whatsoever.

They havent played anyone, they havent defeated anyone, they dont play defense and their offense is rated lower than UKs.

We need a winnable game like this after not only our top 10 sos but also while playing 5 of last 7 on the road.

A win would get UK not only to 4-3 over that brutal 7 game stretch but would also make UK 4-2 in the SEC and 3-1 on the road in the SEC.

Must win.

Stop with your silly facts please. Facts are clearly not important around here.

I'm still on board, but admit I would like to see Cal make some changes and he has screwed the pooch a few too many times this year. He can still turn it around, but man we are running out of time and got to get going. After GA we have 5 straight Quad 1 games against 4 ranked teams. That is pretty much our season and the turnaround has to be now. In the next 6 we need to go 4-2, anything less than 3-3 with no SEC Tourney this year and it's probably over this year. If so I hope the guys that should return do like last year and in a normal year, I still believe Cal can get it done. But again it's time for some changes for sure.

My respect for him is earned, he brought us back from a disaster. This is a bad season and I do think he will change his approach.
But the damn hate this guy receives on this board is laughable. I think about deleting and getting the heck off of here but they are some that I do have respect for and like what they post.
I don’t know why the cheating is ignored even by our fan base. You sundowners do realize that they are colleges out there buying up the top talent. This is why Cals system has failed because we do not buy players at Kentucky, we are not cheaters.
Therefore he’s not bringing in what he promised. He couldn’t recruit the best of the best because they were paid for!!!
I get angry with his approach and antics on the sideline and the shittiest offensive sets you’ll ever see. But the man still gives us a chance every year. This just so happens to be a ****** year, next year we will have returning players with a beast transfer. People need to relax and quit calling for a mans job.

Cal has done a lot for this program. This type of season was inevitable under the one and done philosophy. I think where Cal went wrong is playing reputation over talent.

He has my support. No coach is infallible but Cal was made for the UK job. His overall record is top shelf. This year is clearly a down year, one surely unexpected by Cal and his assistants. Boston and Clarke are the most overrated recruits in the history of Kentucky basketball. Both of these guys were ranked in the top ten. Boston was rated the number 2 likely prospect for the 2021 NBA draft with Clarke also a lottery selection. Both of these players were counted on to dominate in college. This hasn’t come close to happening. If anything , both players look better suited to mid major competition or less.

To be sure, Cal is not above criticism. When you are paid what he’s paid and your at the winningest basketball program with the sport’s most intolerant fans, any deviation from the fan’s unrealistic expectations will cause the “Sword of Damocles“ to start its descent upon your neck. Cal would be cherished at any other program. Here, some of our ludicrous “fans” want him gone. When Cal is gone, all of the perpetual whiners who post negative sh__t about Cal, will regret his departure if his replacement can‘t equal or exceed his performance.

He’s paid an immense sum of money (paid by hard-working Kentuckians) to maintain the excellence of UK basketball. For the vast majority of his time at the helm of the program, he has achieved that objective. As such, it’s a no-brainer that he should be retained for the foreseeable future. However, one bit of advice to Cal moving forward: Keep the GD politics out of your program.

"Hard Working Kentuckians" pay Calipari $400,000 per year.

That equates to about $4.60 per working citizen.

Cal doesn’t deserve to be fired but I just hope he makes changes moving forward. Between the bad season and his blunders with the media, he has fairly opened himself up to fair criticisms. I think he’s made more mistakes in interviews this season then he has in all of his other seasons here combined. Having probably his worst season coaching is a key factor in that, IMO. When you’re not used to losing, it’s a hard pill to swallow.

I agree with this, between the pandemic and losing, has made Cal seem a bit off. I obviously don’t know him personally but listening to his interviews before the season, I think this Covid has him struggling mentally or something, he doesn’t sound like himself going back before the season started. With all that aside, he definitely needs to make changes and believe he will.
I also forgot about him losing two of his closest friends on the staff with Payne and Peevey leaving for other jobs so I’m sure that factors into it some.

Why do people say it’s just one bad year? He hasn’t been to a final four since 2015 and he’s getting paid like Nick Saban. When you get paid that much, the last 6 years have been unacceptable. If you look at tubbys last 6 years and compare it to Cal’s, it’s almost identical . Tubby gets fired and people continue to kiss Cal’s ***. I don’t care about the kneeling or political stances. The truth of the matter is that he hasn’t had good results since the Wisconsin loss. Barnhart should go with him because of the contract he gave him. Oh yeah, he also had an nit year tucked into the wonderful 5 year run he had.

I support giving him a chance to turn this sinking ship around. Cal deserves at least another year to fix this disaster.
He also needs to recognize that an iceberg was struck, the lifeboats are loaded and a string band is playing sad songs on the deck.
He has had 5 years to turn the ship around. Continuous mediocrity does not count at UK.

For those that think Cal will change his OAD, not playing the guys that give the best chance to win, develop an offense, embrace shooters, what have you seen from him that makes you think this? Serious question.
