I feel the same way. If our top 6-7 guys are freshmen (and we don't know yet) we will have some rough nights.
If you're disappointed,, surprised or pissed off,, you can only blame yourself.. It's no secret he didn't like school and wanted to get paid ASAP.. Like last year paid.. He was highly disappointed he had to come back last year.. He said basically 2-3 weeks or more ago this was his last year,, clear as day..
Agree,there is no surprise here,as to who starts or plays next year at the guard spots I think that depends on who is here then that is not here now.Green and Diallo have to be the favorites but Johnson could be a factor if he comes here
I really don't understand why people have issues with this goodbye. Briscoe did not care for UK. Not in the sense that he didn't care for his teammates, he simply hated being in college. He wanted to be a one and done and wasn't good enough to be one. He stayed a sophomore season because he had to.
I think he'd be fine with that to start. I still think he is a money player in his head and never was a college player (In his head.) BUT, he loved UK. (Inserted that for another poster.)
It's impossible to build an experienced team if kids always go.

That said, the same kids stay at UNC and Duke for 3-4 years. People act like UK WANTS to be this revolving door. People act like Cal boots these kids when they don't succeed in 1 year.
The reality is kids view UK as one and done U. That's why they come here. A lot of these kids just want to go pro, regardless of draft position?
Is Sean Miller booting Simmons? Or does Simmons just want in the league?

Yeah, had I had the chance to be overseas when I was his age (except for a short stint in the Army.) I'd have had a heck of a time.....yep, a heckuv a time....
He may get drafted 2nd round. But if he doesn't he will absolutely be one of the first players called by many GMs post-draft. Does a lot of things well, just not a shooter at this stage, but hes still only 19 or 20. He could find a niche for a team. Hope he makes it and wish him the best
I'm happy for Briscoe. I wish him nothing but the best. One of my favorite players the last 2 years.
This is the only type of situation where I question the one and done model. At any other school in the country he'd be a great 4 year player but here you're looked at as a failure if you don't leave after 1 season. That's great for guys like John Wall and Malik Monk, but for guys like Briscoe and Doron Lamb and Marquis Teague it really hurts us
But he trolls well.
Remember that source in the IU athletic department? Dude must have one in every D1 school.
Hate to break it to you, but quite a few of the guys you listed actually made GOOD career decisions by leaving early.
As just one example: Orton. The reason Orton's career imploded was because of a degenerative knee condition, discovered during his rookie season, that zapped all the explosiveness out of his legs. If he'd stayed at UK that would've occurred while still in college and he'd likely not've been drafted all.
Instead, by leaving early--when he was still perceived by scouts to have that magical upside potential--he gets a first round contract guaranteeing millions and providing the sort of sweet financial security he'd never have if he'd stayed. Leaving early was the best decision Orton ever made.
And I'd point out one could just as easily make a list of players who made bad career decisions and only saw their stock drop by staying (including a couple names on your list). As one example: Poythress--projected as a sure lottery pick his freshman year, but instead stays four years and ends up not being drafted at all. Staying at UK cost Poy untold millions.

I loved college. A little work, great friendships and great memories.
My sources say he's going to Australia to play in the same league with Humphries.
Poythress was thought to be a sure lottery early on after the Duke game. He was not at the end of his freshman year. Archie Goodwin barely got picked in the 1st red, Poythress would've been late 1st or u drafted after his freshman season.

I would have been great to have the experience and solid play of Briscoe. But I couldnt see Cal starting him at PG next year, and another year of Briscoe as our starting SF didnt sound appealing to me either.
His best choice was to get a degree & work on his shooting for the next 2 years. He could of also slimmed down & gained quickness to give him a better chance of being drafted down the road. I think it is pretty evident that he should head overseas now because in no way shape or form is Brickso a NBA player.
Yeah, okay, buddy. I've been all over Europe. I'm a grown man though. I wasn't 20 like Briscoe.
You think it's not going to be a culture shock for a 20-year old kid with no support system?
Proof that mystery and small sample sizes of your game action very much work in your favor with the draft.
Regarding Poy, it says he made 35K playing so far. How much did he get when picked up with the 76ers?
No surprise here, been trying to tell some on this board that he was not coming back . He wanted so bad to leave last year. Will not get drafted and will play overseas. Bam will not be back as some people hope.

It's like having a guy work for you that is responsible for a department. He's not good enough to become CEO but you don't want him to quit and leave you with no one to work that department.
I know I'm jumping in late here and I haven't read through the entire thread, but this is just incorrect. Kids have been making terrible NBA draft decisions since the early entry phenomenon gained steam back in the mid-90s.
In 2007 (10 years ago) the following NBA not-at-all-stars declared early and stayed in the draft.
1. Dwight Brewington
2. Taurean Green
3. Robert Earl Johnson
4. Kellen Lee
5. Dominic McGuire
6. Kendaris Pelton

aaron was better than andrew--who seemed to just chuck the ball up at the backboard--but briscoe was a much better finisher than either
If you don't like it your boy Tubby has 'em rolling fast paste in Memphis. You won't even have to change colors.
wingspan is about the same, though
briscoe is probably not going to play in the league because he can't shoot and he isn't especially athletic, but i don't see either of the twins becoming rotation players either
