Its the skillset of recruits that needs to get better.The centers needs to make outside shots to open the foul lane for dribble drives to the basket.The importance of the 3 point shot hasn't been emhasized enough as shown by the poor outside shooting on most Big Ten teams.There is a lack of lateral quickness on defense which has allowed opponents in the tournament to dribble drive to the basket and make the basket or get fouled.The star players like Murray and Davis didn't take enough shots in the games which was a advantage to the opponent.Conference needs to upgrade its recruiting and recruit athletes. Year after year , this conference lags in recruiting behind other P5 conferences with exception of Michigan as of late and Ohio State next year.
Also look at coaching moves. Sean Miller is available and Maryland settles for Kevin Willard - Turgeon 2.0 - while Sean Miller - game changer - was available.
Teams like Wisconsin and Iowa will be successful in conference play but put them against other conferences - and it’s generally a fail in the long run.
Conference needs to look itself in the mirror and emulate what Howard is doing at Michigan. Recruiting / Recruiting / Recruiting !
