Remember the Betts vs. Watts debates? Betts is off the team after two years and Watts is a second team safety…

no surprise since we constantly insist on hitting the reset button with new coaches every year or two. every time we do that theres a period where stuff like this happens and we have to wait for the culture to set in again
yeah, I have no idea how Bama survives it each year with the coaching turnover. Barely I guess.

So you would rather not bring in Joseph and Whipple, and just let Frost continue to set the college football world on fire with the staff he had?

I think a lot of what his issues were was a lack of overall intelligence. I know that sounds terrible but that IS the reality with some players. They can never be trusted to run the correct route or execute the correct blocking assignment etc etc. If a kid is constantly struggling with his grades, and “mental issues” is it such a shock that maybe he wasn’t smart enough to learn a playbook?
Doesn’t matter if you can jump out of the gym and have a sub 4.4 40 if you’re constantly running go routes when you were supposed to run a 10 yard hitch. That’s a problem.

Betts doesn't like having a male role model steer him toward the light. The kid lives off campus, had classroom trouble since high school, has been reported to skip meetings and workouts. He is just not a good young man. He can run fast though. When you have a room full of wide eyed kids busting *** and buying in, you don't have time for a non receptive **** head that still hasn't locked in after a few years playing college ball.

At some point we all need to realize that guys with potential who haven't tapped into it in 2-3 seasons just aren't going to suddenly become all-conference players. This goes hand-in-hand with the offseason hype dynamic that we all joke about. Give me another Toure and you can keep all the Betts types.

How many of frost's reaches have actually worked out?

Omar has a shot with the slot wrinkle they have been talking about. I have seen loads of positive growth from Manning, despite not getting many opportunities. Casual fans are blinded by a players speed and don't see that the player has a ten cent brain. You dont have to be smart, but you have to have at least some mental strenght and discipline. Betts is a street kid that wants to stay a street kid.

I don't think anyone here is shocked, or at least I'm not. I just haven't seen a lot of playmakers coming through this program, flawed or otherwise.

But if Betts is replaced by someone more reliable, and more importantly if the program stops being a laughing stock, no one will even remember his name.

The fact that this kid is getting this podcast and attention is the reason he acts and responds to adversity the way he does. He's no alpha just talented enough for some to care. Time to grow tf up.

It's everything with Betts. As others have said, it's academics, it's attitude. Mickey isn't having it no matter how talented or fast the young man is. Hopefully, he learns from this. As far as his return to NU, all Betts are off. Ok. I'll see myself out now...

that sucks. I firmly believe from a physical standpoint that Betts is/was the best WR prospect we've had in a very long time & maybe ever.

I was calling for Frost to throw it deep down the sideline to him at least once/game since before he debuted. this year, we finally did it a couple times and the results were as expected, including dusting everyone on the OU defense for a 60+ yarder to keep us in the game.

hopefully he can find his way back into the locker room ASAP.

Another insanely talented WR that Frost had no clue how to use and now gone. Honestly, it's so frustrating.

Suspect it was because Coach Joseph placed demands upon him and other receivers and Betts just quit. Good riddance if that is the case.

Betts has to decide if he wants to play football or not. Simple as that.

Don't worry, Frost knows what he is doing and has a master genius plan. Look for Belt and Liewer to get increased reps now.
Don't worry creepy Iowa nutjob, someday you'll be able to stand in the unemployment line with your loser daddy.

Yep...

I am fine with a kid being great at just one thing and I am fine with that guy being Betts.

Agreed. If he wants to play GET TO WORK. If not, thanks for the buggy ride and don't let the door hit you in the *** on your way out. Coaches don't have time for babysitting

all these morons talking about "academics" and "learning the playbook" are probably doing so in their half-century-old letterman's sweaters

Betts came here to take the top off the defense, and he does that whenever he's asked (which is far too seldom)

I really hope we get him back. Thompson to Betts is a connection I remain very excited to see.

This would be like making your 3 point specialist go through rugged rebounding drills and charge drills.

It is amazing, punters and kickers practice for 15 minutes at the start...then they go in and lift, watch TV, get in the tub, do HW and then they come back out for the last 15 minutes...no one freaks the **** out about it. Even though we all pretend that they are 1/3 of the game.

I'm listening to Sharp and Bennings new podcast. Benning basically is saying Betts is worn down with it all and decided to quit. Frost and Joseph will try and talk him into coming back.

Give me the 3 point specialist who wants to go through rugged rebounding drills and charge drills over the one who wants to be treated special. I know which one of those will be there fighting his arse off when the chips are down.

You don't think shooters have to do rebounding drills?

Shooters do...3% specialists, not so much
No, Steph Curry is not going through riot like rebounding drills.
Steve Kerr while at Zona or in the NBA was not "mixing it up" with centers to see if he could box out.

Just like QB's don't go through tackling drills or learn how to tackle or do Oklahoma drills.

I promise they were both doing plenty of Guard on Guard rebounding drills in college.

When there's only 5 on the floor there's no room for "specialists". They all better know how to rebound unless he/she knows how to single handedly stop a 5 on 1 fast break. Then I'll give a pass
