And outside of Malik Newman shocking even our Lord and savior- what could be done to give you a sense of excitement heading into next basketball season.

Sword Ware and Thomas will be seniors who have worked their asses off and represented us with class to the best of their abilities. I respect that and hope they do really well. They're Dogs.

Nothing. No idea how to coach offense and won't matter who we put on floor. Ray is in over his head

Really, not much. Finding a transfer that could play immediately seems as unlikely as signing Malik. So any major improvements will have to come from Black and Houston making huge strides from this point to next year. I'm talking a Tim Bowers/Winsome Fraizer type leap from their freshmen to sophomore years.

If I was Craig Sword, I would be practically begging Malik to come help me for my last year. Sword lays it on the line every game.

I hate to say it but nothing will get me excited. For as much as I liked state basketball, I'm shocked at how little I care about it now. I hate it for everyone involved. I don't blame the players because they are trying and I know ray is too. They (including ray) are just not good enough to get the job done.

And I have no faith in Scott to hire his replacement. Ray should have never been hired. He gets another year and I have no idea why.

Nothing. This staff cannot coach, develop, or recruit. I spoke to an exMSU athlete today that said he is done buying basketball tickets until Ray is gone.

Here are some interesting (scary) stats on the game tonight that doesn't bode well for our future (and explains the cannot coach, develop, or recruit):
*Daniels, Black, Houston, Ndoye, and Bloodman played 62 minutes and scored 5 points with 4 rebounds!

All the free tickets I want - my almost 5 year old doesn't care who wins, so MSU basketball has been a cheap source of entertainment for him over the last 3 years.

Nothing. I simply wanted him to win more regular season games than he did last year, and now that is impossible. He is just like Croom, he has wasted so many opportunities. He also knew he would need a shooter and did not get one. Very Croomy behavior right there.

I keep thinking he will turn a Tom Crean type trend, but we are not Indiana, and Ray has not been recruiting like Crean did.

There is a time down the stretch in every game when you are down 4-6 points or up 4-6 points and you need a basket to stay in the game or create seperation. We've been in this situation many times and when we are, we screw up the most. We should call a set play or something, but nooooooooo. We turn it over without getting a shot and the other team scores in transition. Did someone once say Ray was in over his head? Last night down by 7 with 1:14 left, we still had a snowballs chance. Roc drives 1 against 3, does everything with the ball except kick into the crowd, turnover. Next possession, we throw up an oxygen ball. Great coaching in that situation.

What??
I think Cal is the one begging Malik to come to UK. I have seen Cal here in Jackson watching games and chatting it up with Horatio..

I'm hesitant to wade into this thread,

but as someone who knows an IU fan or 2, please explain what this even means...

Is this a positive?

Are you referring to the guy being discussed here:

Could 2nd half vs Iowa decide Crean's future? Loss to Northwestern before, possible losses to MSU and in B1G opener coming. This half. Huge.

Just search his name on Twitter. It's a disaster area.

Wasn't indiana horrible before Tom got there and on into his first couple of years?

I'm assuming the poster is referring to that turnaround, not the present state

Yes. Kelvin Sampson cheated them into horrificness. Crean came in and restored some order but with his best team two years ago, they bowed out earlier than IU fans felt they should have. They were a legit Final Four team that year, but stuff happens. Since then he's not been as good but he also had Vonleh as a one and done guy. Outside of his DWade Final Four run, there's not a whole lot of postseason success.

Crean's first three years at Indiana they were 6-25, 10-21, 12-20. His fourth year they went 27-9 and made the Sweet 16. I believe that's what he was referring to. Of course MSU is not Indiana and Ray can't recruit half as well as Crean so that kind of turnaround is a fantasy.

Outside of Newman signing, nothing. Other than Ready and Houston, I think that everyone on our roster has either already reached his ceiling or has very little upside. Then, next year's class seems like Ray's best on paper, but it's still not one that's going to come in and provide immediate returns. If it does, I'll be very surprised

On top of all that, the fact that we're in year 3 and staring 12-13 total wins in the face is just abysmal. I have seen nothing from a 3 year sample size that leads me to believe that our ceiling next year will be any better than an NIT bid at best. Considering our 12 measly wins so far this season, even that may be a stretch.

Honest question... have we ever had a men's basketball coach go through 3 straight season that were this bad and not get fired?

Richard Williams was 34-51 after 3 seasons (all losing seasons).

Which is awful at a place like IU. That it took him four years to have a winning season at what is arguably one of the Top 20 programs in college basketball, should have been a red flag. Instead, they stuck with him and delayed the inevitable. And might have missed out on a guy who would be a perfect fit at IU - Brad Stevens.
