You might be surprised to know that Crean has 2 of the 3 Sweet 16s at Indiana in the last 20 years.

Do you realize how bad Indiana was before Crean got there? Kelvin Sampson completely nuked that program. Almost every player of note Sampson's last year either left the program or was kicked off the team. He had no players at all. It was a very comparable situation to MSU actually. Crean did a great job to get Indiana from the trash pile to the Sweet 16 in four years.

Not to mention that, at the time, Crean had taken Marquette to 3 straight NCAA tournaments while Stevens had only 1 year as a head coach. Granted, a very good year but no better than the one Crean had that season at Marquette.

Do you realize how much talent there is in Indianapolis alone?

Its like I heard Rick Pitino say the other night - just because you're rebuilding doesn't mean you have to be bad. Especially at a place like IU.

He may get a chance to take somebody like Marquette to the tournament again, because it doesn't look like he's going to make it at IU. And I said three straight losing seasons should have been a red flag. That would have been the time to go after Stevens.

Nobody cares about Indiana. The point was that Crean took over a program at rock bottom, lost for 3 years, then it clicked and they went to the Sweet Sixteen 2 years in a row. That is the point. Indiana won 12 games in his 3rd season. Nobody saw it coming. Again, that is the point. This is what I said:

I keep thinking he will turn a Tom Crean type trend, but we are not Indiana, and Ray has not been recruiting like Crean did.
I think the part I bolded takes into account that 1-MSU is not Indiana, and 2-Ray has not been recruiting like Crean did.

Some of you take things so damned literally.

Similar trend, and Williams broke into the NIT his 4th year, then the NCAA his 5th year. In that vein, does ANYONE see a possibility of the NCAAs in Ray's 5th year, after Sword, Ware, Daniels and Thomas leave? I see no chance.

Rather, I say we just bring back Richard Williams.

If we make nit next season, we'll get simonds. Simonds COULD be a program changer. Simonds and weatherspoon could be dynamic together. If they both pan out along with hicks, we could make the ncaa in year 5. No where near a lock though

so what is his (malik) reason to come to vegas? or OM for that matter? if it is to stay close to family, then the path is obvious for us. a job offer needs to be extended.

Nothing. I simply wanted him to win more regular season games than he did last year, and now that is impossible. He is just like Croom, he has wasted so many opportunities. He also knew he would need a shooter and did not get one. Very Croomy behavior right there.

I keep thinking he will turn a Tom Crean type trend, but we are not Indiana, and Ray has not been recruiting like Crean did.

The really sad part is that if Ray had let Jalen Steele sit out last year and heal up and be a 5th year SR this year he would have the shooter on the perimeter we need. Instead, he told Jalen to play hurt or hit the road.
