For the record Travis Ford or Patrick Sparks although not uber athletic..no denying their talent. not even a glimpse of instinct in D.A.
all good points. also do the other players on the floor deserve a talented point guard at the University of Kentucky? I think yes!He has to be able to distribute the basketball. Absolute must for a PG at an elite program. If he doesn’t, we will struggle mightily with him at the point.
What’s the point in having good shooters and rim runners if the PG can’t deliver the ball? He could play a backup role, if he can’t distribute the ball. Sorry, I disagree with the notion that he can get by here without being able to set guys up with good passes as the main PG.
I edited and added to my post. Added a few things that didn’t immediately come to mind first time around. Also, you’re absolutely right. Recruiting will also suffer if players think that the main PG can’t deliver the ball where they can succeed. That’s a fact.all good points. also do the other players on the floor deserve a talented point guard at the University of Kentucky? I think yes!
Those two guys were very AGGRESSIVE, both with passing and shooting. They were both also crafty. If Askew were crafty, we probably wouldn’t be having this discussion. For the record Travis Ford or Patrick Sparks although not uber athletic..no denying their talent. not even a glimpse of instinct in D.A.
agreed 100%. they had "get it done" basketball talent! hope Askew can find it. really I do. haven't seen anything close from him yet! Those two guys were very AGGRESSIVE, both with passing and shooting. They were both also crafty. If Askew were crafty, we probably wouldn’t be having this discussion.
They were take control type players. Askew looks like he’s gonna piss his pants every single time he gets the ball. I don’t wanna hear he’s a freshman. Sparks was lighting it up as a freshman. Came into Rupp as a freshman and beat us when he was at Western.agreed 100%. they had get it done basketball talent! hope Askew can find it. really I do. haven't seen any close from him yet!
back when beating UK in Rupp meant something! They were take control type players. Askew looks like he’s gonna piss his pants every single time he gets the ball. I don’t wanna hear he’s a freshman. Yep I couldn’t believe it. I remember being totally stunned by that loss. That was the Team Turmoil year. What a collection of talent. Damn shame we lost Parker to injury.back when beating UK in Rupp meant something!
That’s fine. I’m just saying we shouldn’t be saying things like “askew/Boston/sarr can gtfo and go somewhere else!” like I’ve seen a lot on here. How are we ever going to have any junior/senior leaders who worked hard and got better with that mentality? It’s fine to criticize how a kid plays, but let’s keep it at that.I’m glad DA is coming back. But let's not do the cancel garbage just because it gets in your feelings a bit. Devin was terrible for most of the year and UK fans are going to talk about it.
Brooks was the biggest disappointment of the season. If he didn't take it upon himself last summer to get better, I'm not sure he will this year. I believe he may be more EJ than PJ.Askew
Mintz
Toppin
Brooks
Ware
Allen
These guys should/need to be back to develop some continuity in this program.
This is it in a nutshell. Experience will not bless him with the natural talents he lacks. Askew is at best average in everything. In those things that he is not average, he is below average.Yeah. I think a lot of people that think he’s going to vastly improve his performance on the floor are gonna be sadly mistaken. You’re exactly right. The things he struggles with aren’t things that can really be improved or taught.
You either have speed and quickness or you don’t. You either have good court vision and court savvy or you don’t. It’s really that simple.
He had a once in a lifetime player (Kenny Walker) to feed every gameThose who may remember Roger Harden may recall he wasn't that great of a player at first. But by the time he was a senior he was the player I wanted to have the ball in the crunch especially if FTs were involved.
If you cant play him at PG then hes unplayable. It is what it is.Well he damn sure isn’t a PG in any sense of the word. Where do you suggest Cal play him? Surely not the most important position on the floor. Look what happened with that this season.
Yes and star for the Cambodian RicersWhere else would he go ? Pro in Cambodia?
Yeah that’s why he gave him so many minutes lmaoThis is why cal gave him so many minutes, he now has a guy who been through sec play and will hopefully be better for it.
Disagree. He could be a 4th guard in your rotation. No reason why Soph, jun,If you cant play him at PG then hes unplayable. It is what it is.
If u play like garbage you should get called on it. You think players on a 9-16 team are above criticism? Don't take their heart on a message board.MODS should start banning anyone who bashes the kids (as I’m sure some will in here). Support them and hope they get better or go root for somebody else. Welcome back Devin!
Happy to hear he is returning. Has a lot to work on but can definitely see glimpses of things he does really well.
But you shouldn’t be told to gtfo and say they are unwanted. That was my point. If u play like garbage you should get called on it. You think players on a 9-16 team are above criticism? Don't take their heart on a message board.
he showed more than flashes of what he could do. shooting ability ,assists, turnovers, defense...all consistently poorly demonstrated. hope he has a great offseason as well. I'd rather he find some talent.I’m glad he’s coming back, he’s the kind of kid we need. He showed flashes of what he can do. Hope he has a great offseason.

Could have been a senior. He's the same age as other freshmen.Good. Should have been a high school senior but instead was thrown into the role of leading a team with no returning experience (remember Brooks was out early). Never had time to catch up. I expect a much better sophomore and somebody who will also accept the role of coming off the bench if a better player is in front of him.
Plus you generally don’t play guys who are at shooting guard who are afraid to shoot! I have never seen a player be shaken like that kid was, to be completely honest the kid should not have played the last 10 games but Cal’s horrible roster management almost left him no option. For everyone here saying play Askew at 2G, you think Cal is going to play a 6 foot unathletic, non defending, lacking lateral quickness, unable to attack the rim player at 2G? Do you even watch UK basketball?
most here agree he played worst than a freshman or is lacking the talent....prolly both!He played like most freshman IMO. I think he can be a good player.
slow hustleHe does have a lot to work on .. No PG instincts and low basketball IQ... a turnover machine .. can’t shoot or pass.. and.. constantly gets beat on defense.
But, he does hustle.
Always the fans faultAskew? The UK fans gave this kid hell. Most likely, next year the same fans will blame Cal for the transfer. So much stupidity.
I had forgotten just how good Patrick Sparks was. Askew could watch some video!
