Never said I have the answers. I'm just stating what I'm currently watching with this team. We have the most talented team in the country but not the best. We also have the highest ceiling and are the favorites to win the whole thing if the defense can improve just a bit.
Well since you put it that way Duke will just ride it’s five NBA draft picks to a first round exit which ain’t completely out the picture seeing as how most teams just have to use the same approach. Shoot well from three, play physical get into the lane or just use pick and roll and you got a fighting chance to beat Duke.
But hey what do I know, I’m not coach K or the team. I didn’t recruit every player to Duke, I didn’t start the season out saying this was a deep team to say we’re not deep or can’t put it together on defense.
We also have 4 freshmen starting, and a starting 5 that never played as a unit until last semester. The 4 freshmen might be great offensively, but Gary seems like the only guy who took defense seriously in high school. Team chemistry is necessary for consistent team defense, and they are still trying to build that IMHO. The faster the better!
To the guys saying K didn't coach in 15. I guess we didn't watch the same season. He specifically adjusted the way he had Okafor guard PnR after the Miami game. I remember they started 'icing' it and allowing Okafor to say back. I seriously doubt the guys just decided to do all that on their own.
Also, how can we question this team's offensive identity. It's the best in the country. Maybe they could run more PnR or any other set, offense, concept, but the offense wouldn't be ranked any higher. Duval can't shoot threes, what do you think teams would do to him on PnR they aren't doing right now?

Well Okafor was still a sieve defensively on the pick and roll, regardless of this adjustment you speak of. This year, we're having trouble staying in front of our men and the players don't seem to understand the defensive rotations. It's a big issue right now but I don't think it will end up hurting too much.
This team has the highest ceiling of any in the country. With this defense, I see 12-6 in the ACC. Fix it soon and we're looking at 13-5 at worst.
I wonder if Mich St has the same pitch forkers we do, calling for Izzo’s resignation. How could they lose to Ohio St? Oh my something must be wrong.
I’m sure they don’t have the number of fair weather fans we do here.
Because OSU shot the lights out, including one guy dropping 28 (20 in the first half) and Mich St shot around 35%. **** happens in conference road games. Their not gonna be calling for Izzo's head since they just didn't bring it this game and their defense was fine - OSU just made shots
Do MSU fans offer off-season workshops on how to not freak out after losses?
I agree that Okafor was still rough and this team is struggling with rotations and PNR defense. I just think it's silly to say K isn't making adjustments or that he hasn't in x amount of years. We can disagree with the adjustment, fine. Or you can say the players are executing poorly. But saying that the coaches aren't coaching is out there. They make adjustments every year, then others adjust to them, then it goes again.
Idk I haven't checked their message boards but i'm sure it's filled with negativity too
