Everyone wants the coach with the "wow" factor. Urban Meyer, Ed Orgeron, Lane Kiffin, etc...Well sports fans we got that guy 4 short years ago. His name was Scott Frost. He was the hottest young coach in the country. Florida, Tennessee and a bunch of other big name schools were after him. NU got him and here we are 4 years later as an utter failure. Mike Riley and Bill Callahan were better hires with better records. Let that sink in Husker Nation. So, if and when Trev hires a guy that everyone says who, what and why? Just look at MSU and Mel Tucker. He was that guy. We don't need the wow factor. We need a solid fundamentals coach who can prepare a team to not look like a clown show every week. Who can develop talent. Who will pull your *** if you're still making the bonehead plays after 4 years!! Much sooner. A guy that will be a "wow" coach after 5 to 10 years of wins and stability. The recruits will come with the new facilities, the fan support and NIL money. Once we start winning again. We play in the Big 10 West. A solid coach who teaches discipline and fundamentals can come in here next year and win 8. Just by not beating ourselves and gifting games away. Winning the West every year or every other year. Guaranteed. Don't lose faith Husker fans. Don't say well if Frost can't win who can? That's such a defeatist loser attitude it makes me sick. We are ****ing Nebraska!! We are bigger than one man or one failed coach. Frost tried his best. It didn't pan out. Time to part ways and find our Mel Tucker. GBR!!!
You are 100% correct. But I’m guessing you and I can go back to the glory days when we were feared by all. We can hang our hats on memories of incredible football. And that allows us to hope for the magic.again. So I can see where if you are a younger fan, 20-30 years old you may wonder if the program is dead. If 5 different coaches to varying degrees haven’t been able to restore the program. It must feel like “why should I invest my time in this crap”. But you are correct, we just need the right guy.

what does the tunnell walk have to do with winning and losing?
Nothing directly. Just symbolic. Just say “it will come back someday when we’re ready for it but for now, we’re focused on just getting better”.

I think some of the players struggle with the pressure of high expectations and others need to be taken down a notch and built back up

If we can't get Mike Leach, let's bag the first female head coach. Am I right? You know you want it. 😁😁😁

Given the current state of the program and the deeper hole that has been dug over the last 4 years I definitely think the next hire will elicit a “wow”

He would be on my short list. He is a solid coach and knows how to build a program.

I’d love for Trev to find a guy like Bill Snyder. Tremendously detail oriented, builds a great staff, tireless work ethic, fields a team that plays smart / sound football, and does more with less every year.
Perhaps we can lure Bill Snyder out of retirement. He came out of retirement once so who knows, maybe he has the desire to get back in the game once again.

I’m wishing! I worship TO but what Snyder did ‘The Miracle in Manhattan’…twice??!! was truly remarkable given how terrible KSU was before he got there. Both are deservedly Hall of Fame coaches!

I would say Snyder was an even better coach than Osborne. Osborne took over a program that was solid. Snyder took over a program that was a complete dumpster fire and turned it into a respectable program.

Ok I hardly call the last two games one score losses. Prevent D gave us our last score in each. Those were really two score losses to inferior talent but superior coaching.
The last two games 30-23 Minny and 28-25 Purdue. Those are literally one score losses. My point stands. Games like that would have been easy wins with a competent coach and a QB who isn't a turnover machine. So, to recap. That's every game this year that was lost because of Frost, Adrian, dumb penalties and special teams gaffes.

Not going to happen in a million years I put probability at zero, but I’d like to see Nebraska attempt a historic contract with Meyer, historic. One that makes every new station in the nation. I’d like to see Nebraska go for the grand slam.

2018 Colorado, Troy, NW, Iowa and Ohio State
2019 Colorado, Indiana, Purdue, Iowa
2020 NW, Iowa, Minny. Rutgers and Wisconsin cancelled due to covid
2021 Illinois, Oklahoma, MSU, Michigan, Minny, Purdue
Seeing a pattern here? Those were all one score winnable games. A competent coach without a turnover machine at QB and a clown show special teams and those are all wins and we aren't talking about moral victories and firing anyone. Period. A good coach with a good QB wins 8 here next year. Guaranteed. We aren't that far off. That's literally 18 wins over 4 years that we pissed away. Add another 5 wins a year per year and Frost has 8 to 9 win seasons. Not 4. Winners find a way to win close games. Coaches and QB's.

Going to have to mend bridges with Warren Buffet to make something like that happen.

eIt’s an odd list, but I think a few of them probably should be.
Some of the ones on that list have no realistic chance of coming here, so we can automatically eliminate them. Some of them are mediocre, so we can eliminate them too. The remaining ones that are left would probably win 9-10 games a year, but would probably lose to the likes of Ohio State, Wisconsin, Iowa, and Michigan State. We would get close, but probably not get past the 9-10 win hump that fans constantly complained about even in the years when Nebraska was somewhat respectable.

Records against the weak west for Frost
Iowa 0-3 soon to be 0-4.
Minny 1-3
NW 2-2
Purdue 1-3
Illinois 2-2
Wisconsin
0-2 soon to be 0-3. Covid
Unacceptable in a weak Big 10 West.

Jim Leonard (Risky)
Gus Malzahn
Hugh Freeze (Sadly, Husker fans think they are ethically superior to most, so this won't word)
Aranda knows the BIG, but why would you leave a fertile recruiting ground for a desert?

I don't think recruiting to lincoln is all that hard, NU almost always has top 25 classes and the best class in the West.

At Baylor you are always what, 4th or 5th talked about program? Behind, UT, AM, OU (I would imagine is bigger in Texas than Baylor)...

But with that said, you can just pretty much recruit the state and I am guessing there is zero pressure at that gig. Can't imagine there are a bunch of radio shows devoted to Baylor football.

no older "also ran" coaches with one eye focused on retirement. no younger gimmicky offenses. find a middle aged assistant fbs out of an established successful program or go with younger fcs headcoach with experience at the fbs level.
need to have a coach willing to hire and fire accomplished assistant coaches.
mid level compensation with huge bonus's for winning, conference championships, bowl wins

Seriously. Anyone have the number of games we've lost in 4 years by one score or less and lost because of an interception, fumble, coaching blunder or special teams gaffe? It's quite a few games. I know that. I can think of both Colorado games to start.
I saw a tweet where a guy put all the one score games up in the SF era and the percentage chance we had of winning in the 4th quarter (I think). In only one game was the percentage under 50%. One was 94%. Yet we still lost.

Crazy.

It is mind blowing. I still think most of it has been the QB that Frost hitched his wagon to. The kid has tantalizing talent but damn he's cost us most of those one score losses. IF you always do what you've always done, you'll always get what you always got. I'm just baffled why Frost didn't turn to Smothers at Minnesota or last weekend.

I personally want Jamey Chadwell.

Fun offense that would attract recruits
Still needs to prove himself
Can win a game throwing or grinding a team out with running
kind of a Tom type of offense out of pistol

I actually think we have some good pieces that were underutilized with current staff
Lane Kiffin anybody?? Nebraska roots Monte’s son.

If you consider losing one score games all due to bad luck or bad coaching, then all one score wins have to also be due to good luck/good coaching. Add up all the one score wins and losses. Divide by two. That will give you the number of wins average luck/coaching would grant.

You can't assume all close losses would be wins simply with better coaching. That is not how things work.

5 years is very fair to a coach at a blue blood program. Frost has one more year, but expectations are sky high. As for this year, 1-7 and last place in the big ten is not holding your own.

Northwestern, Illinois, Purdue, Minnesota are not SEC powers. Iowa and Wisconsin aren't world beaters either. The right coach who doesn't gift games away will win 8 to 10 every year. Easy. The West will be ours with the right coach. Have faith Trev finds us the guy.
Everyone said national powerhouses Penn State and Nebraska would dominate in the Big Ten....and look what happened. Put Alabama in the Big Ten West and they'll be bottom-feeders too.

What did we do to Warren?
Nothing. People assume that because he isn't a big booster of NU athletics that he has a beef. He doesn't. He doesn't donate generally to athletic programs that clear millions of dollars every year. His donations and the donations from companies he owns go towards supporting academics.
