No, it isn't. We have the 44th best defense in the country. Let's not pretend like that is horrible or bad defense. Sure, it isn't number 1, so it can get better, but when you have the 6th best offense, the 44th best defense is pretty damn good. Ohh, and I think the only team in the P5 that is in the top 50 in both offense and defense, other than Kentucky is Baylor. So, when only 1 other P5 team is doing, it, it must be pretty special, especially given that up until this past week that other team was undefeated and ranked number 1 in the country.
Digging deeper, we have already established that UK's opponents shoot about 30 percent from 3, which is good for 59th best in the country. Again, it could be better, but still isn't horrible by any means. You can say it needs improvement, but again, let's not pretend like it is some glaring weakness.
Also, this doesn't even take into account the fact that the better an offense is, the more likely they score early in possessions and the more likely their opponent gets more possessions a game. We scored 27 fast break points against Tennessee... that means we scored extremely quickly, which means they had even more chances to put up points. We didn't sit there and eat shot clock and shorten the game. We ran a lot in that game, which meant that they had a whole lot of chances as well. In fact, they shot it more than we did.
