I'd rather throw a bag at a proven portal qb vs a high school qb.

Him moving up the commit date good or bad for us?
Sweet. Hopefully ticket prices aren’t as bad as CoachellaMay 1-2? He’s hosting a commitment festival?
Really like these OL verbals coming from Western PA!![]()
Penn State adds commitment from in-state OT Ryan Robbins
Pittsburgh (Pa.) Upper Saint Clair offensive tackle Ryan Robbins became the latest Class of 2027 prospect to commit to Penn State.www.on3.com
That ranking is fool’s gold at the moment.According to 247, we are 6th nationally. But player ratings now will not be the same as November as it is early in the process and there will be multiple refreshes during the fall high school football season.
It might be in the end, but it’s not complete at the moment. That ranking is fool’s gold at the moment.
As others have pointed out for some time now, it’s big business and nobody is above criticism. Coaches and players are paid a lot now. It’s fair to question things and have open conversation about it. Always drinking the kool aid and never taking any other approach doesn’t help. You may not like it, but everyone has their own opinion and they don’t all have to be the same.It might be in the end, but it’s not complete at the moment.
I believe most reasonable people will look at this and feel confident that the future is bright. The final ranking will be somewhere in the teens, as it will probably correlate with the NIL funding. It’s hard to be a top 5 recruiting team, when your NIL allotment is not a top 5 fund.
To me, the “real fool’s gold” is the fake excitement of some sorry *** posters on this site. It’s odd that some just point out negative **** or is just a passive/aggressive poster at most opportunities.
It is directional and demonstrates we are doing well. A number of our 3 stars will be reranked as 4 stars when all is said and done. This is Campbell’s first experience with recruiting the northeast and mid Atlantic with the big boys. That ranking is fool’s gold at the moment.

That is a very solid take. Campbell will have to turn top 15 nil funding into a team that can compete at the top of the sport. That is the challenge. We are just not at the level of an Oregon that can drop $3m on a high school qb (Mencl) and carry that cost for multiple seasons without negatively impacting the roster. Oregon just set the asking price for every 4 star QB in this year‘s class. It might be in the end, but it’s not complete at the moment.

In total points, yes. In ranking per player, no. We just picked up a recruit today, Ryan Robbins. A three star that OSU and Indiana were both recruiting heavily. He’s another one that will be four stars by the end of the cycle. You think the class ends up in the top 6 in December?
That’s fair, but this has been consistent since NIL started. PSU has been behind teams from OSU and Oregon in NIL from day one, yet PSU was still able to land some highly ranked blue chip recruits. Some didn’t have any problem blaming the coach for the losses, despite the big NIL discrepancy in the past. That is a very solid take. Perhaps you are right, but he is the 20th ranked overall recruit in PA and there are a handful of higher ranked OL prospects within PA that are going elsewhere. In total points, PSU may rank that high if they take an unusually large class, but as you said, per recruit rankings, I would be shocked if PSU is in the top six in December. It still feels like they are looking for diamonds in the rough. I don’t think that is a sustainable approach to success to compete for a B1G title and make a consistent playoff push. As I said, I will gladly eat crown on that. I hope this staff has a gift of identifying unnoticed top talent that many other top staffs seem to be missing. In total points, yes. Oregon has Phil Knight. OSU has better general fan and donor support of NIL. Indiana has Mark Cuban now. A number of schools in Texas and Oklahoma have big time oil money donors. We have decent NIL support, but we do not have a billionaire whale currently contributing to the football program. We do have Adidas money coming online over the summer, some of it that can be used on NIL.That’s fair, but this has been consistent since NIL started. We are taking an unusually large class - 30-35 after the very limited 2026 class, and again will have to hit the portal pretty hard in January. If you recall some of Franklin’s people remaining in the program after his termination told the commits in the 2026 class their deals are no longer good. We all want instant recruiting results with Campbell, but that’s just not going to happen with the financial realities and the fact he is just starting to build his relationships on the East Coast now. I think Campbell will do very well, but I’m under no illusion that it will happen immediately. I recall a month or two ago even Kiffin at LSU was trying to tell that fan base to give him some time to build a foundation.Perhaps you are right, but he is the 20th ranked overall recruit in PA and there are a handful of higher ranked OL prospects within PA that are going elsewhere. Depends on the performances of the team in the fall. Improvements in passing, and running game, the O and D lines etc.You think the class ends up in the top 6 in December?
I get your points and agree with some. However, Franklin is gone and is not involved in the 2027 class. Further, celebrating recruiting wins over Franklin at VT isn’t going to help beat OSU, Michigan, USC, or Oregon. We are taking an unusually large class - 30-35 after the very limited 2026 class, and again will have to hit the portal pretty hard in January. Sounds like the same excuse Franklin used to make.It might be in the end, but it’s not complete at the moment.

15-20You think the class ends up in the top 6 in December?
Exactly. I use 24/7. PSU's average recruit ranking is 88. There are two dozen schools that are getting commits with a higher average rating. PSU currently has 12 commits, which temporarily skews the team rankings ....and if PSU recruits 30 players it will continue to be artificially inflated in comparison to a school that signs 22 or 24. There is to date, no spike in the quality of commits PSU is getting compared to the past. That ranking is fool’s gold at the moment.
Actually 24/7 has VT's average recruit ranking slightly higher than PSU. So if we are being honest and fair, they are recruiting essentially the same type of athlete at this juncture.I get your points and agree with some. However, Franklin is gone and is not involved in the 2027 class. Further, celebrating recruiting wins over Franklin at VT isn’t going to help beat OSU, Michigan, USC, or Oregon.
Agreed. I blame Pegula for our NIL woes. He's so selfish.Question:
If we can continue to lament our lack of NIL.and the overall poor quality of our recruits, why can’t we continue to obsess over Franklin? Why only partially drag these discussions down when we can rub each other’s nuts in the dirt, at least virtually?

PSU has Pegula, Hershey's, Sheetz, Wawa etc- Kraft need to get these big fish for NIL and quit crying poor and get these guys on board.Oregon has Phil Knight. Exactly. Largest Alumni Association in the country. More CEOs than any other school. Distinguished alumni in all walks of life. There’s zero reason to not be competitive in the NIL game. That sounds like a lazy excuse for the athletic department.PSU has Pegula, Hershey's, Sheetz, Wawa etc- Kraft need to get these big fish for NIL and quit crying poor and get these guys on board.
And is trying to fund a $700 million stadium renovation. There is only so much money people will give away.Exactly. Largest Alumni Association in the country. More CEOs than any other school. That one stings…a lot. In state kid who reportedly had interest in PSU for awhile and goes to powerhouse Prep. Very disappointing.
