Exposure! Will they get more/better exposure playing in USA where NBA scouts can see them at any time and they make ESPN highlights? Or playing on a team somewhere in the South Pacific?

If someone is good enough to play in the NBA, scouts will see them no matter where they are playing.

Just goes to show that some of these kids are in a hurry to get paid and are giving the finger to the NCAA.

This doesnt hurt the kid at all, he is already on NBA Scouts radar. And he gets paid while playing and working on his game.

College hoops fans are the only losers in this model in that we dont get a season to see what the kid can do here.

We're seeing about 1 per year of these now. And some kids aren't ready to be that far from home. But unless the NCAA makes big changes, my crystal ball says we'll see this number increase over the next 5 years, particularly if one of these kids makes a big splash in the league.

But,in Hampton's case his family is moving with him.

Not really the way I see it. He is basically telling the other 3 schools it was never going to be them and that they weren't good enough for him. At least he had the respect to cut the 2 schools he was more interested in.

Lol lol lol ^^^

Waiting for nooneputsbabyinacorner's reply. I'm guessing he will say that he's hearing Dotson and Grimes are coming back, so they didn't need him anyway.

I agree but every major recruit that has tried this strategy has seen their stock fall because of it. Brandon Jennings and Emmanuel Mudiay were both in the conversation as best overall prospect in their class as HS Seniors and both went mid lottery. There’s nothing wrong with that as far as getting drafted but they lost quite a bit of money too. Terrence Ferguson did the same thing and he probably lost quite a bit of money doing so after the tear he got on during the all star circuit.

Mudiay still went top 10 (#7)

Very! I know you won't see it that way as your team is one of the 3 it happened with, but it's pretty evident if you live in reality.

He literally said in his announcement it wasn't really ever his plan to go to college. So why cut the 2 biggest schools off your list a couple weeks before announcing? Obviously he had more respect for those 2 teams than to publicly humiliate them by having a commitment announcement to say he wasn't picking any of them and would rather go to New Zealand for a year. That's humiliating!

I understand all that, but if you went to college you understand that it's an incredible time and the first time a kid is on their own. I hope this kid does great, but not going to college is missing out on a part of growth.

I often think I wasted 6 years of my life in college when I could have done better joining UPS or some other unskilled workforce. Instead I went to Murray State (prob my first mistake lol) and now am out of my field and a State employee. I could have made double what I make now if I had chosen more wisely.

Makes sense to me. If I had top 10 pick basketball talent, I wouldn't want to be a slave for the corrupt NCAA when I could make $125k and hoop all day. Emmert is such a corrupt POS it disgusts me, one of the most prominent faces of greed in the world today

Half my graduating class went there out of HS and just about all of them will retire VERY comfortably while I won't know if my State retirement will even be there when I am ready.

Moral of the story, get it while it's there.

RJ should have just stayed in his original class and came to UK in two years like he was probably going to do. Reclassing and us getting Hagans back screwed up his plans.

Going to be interesting to see how this new Next Stars program works out. The Australian league sees an opening to recruit some top level high school kids and they got a good start. Of course, if/when the NBA goes straight out of high school, it will probably disappear.

I almost feel bad for Kansas. Almost....

Good luck to Hampton. But unless he lives up to his hype out there, we won’t hear much about him for a while.

I don’t get it. Some Euro leagues get more exposure than that.

To each his own and I’m glad it isn’t directly affecting UK.

Wow. And he led those schools on knowing full well he was 99% gone. That makes him kind of a jerk in my book.

So I’ll admit; I’m pretty ignorant when it comes to overseas leagues etc.

Is it really “worth” it for these random international teams to drop $300-$1,000,000 on an 18 year old for 6 months? They do realize they will bolt for the NBA as soon as possible?

“College isn’t for everyone” lol ... it’s not really that difficult for 7 months.

But on the same token, moving thousands of miles across the world “isn’t for everyone either.” Ya know?

Of course, what’s your point?

Little known fact: RJ is also a big LOTR nerd. Helped tip the decision in Breakers’ favor.

OT: the LA Breakers were my team in Double Dribble. Shot a fade-away corner three that was deadly.

Still no word from a baby? It would be front and center early this morning had Hampton went to the bread factory.

You’re going to see Kansas losing out more often than not on these top players going forward. If the Jayhawks can’t use reps and agents to buy the top players. I’m sure Kansas will be paying in another manner but at least their current scam has been shut down.
