A strange choice.
No college experience (even as an assistant) in his life.
No recruiting experience in his life.
No head coaching experience at ANY level his level.
Had a reputation for a short-tempered hothead personality as a player.
What could possibly go wrong here?

When will these schools learn that being a good college coach has nothing to do with success as a player, or coaching pros?

I remember an argument being made the Enes Kanter cannot play for Kentucky because he played with Pros in turkey. Even though that high school kids in America all play with Pros as well.

Soooooo.... isn’t the point of firing a coach to hire a better one? This is a very Vandy hire.
High risk, high reward type of hire in my opinion. He had a lot of success as a head coach in the D-League, and has assistant coaching experience in the NBA.
This would be a huge gamble and a risk. At this stage Vandy can’t afford a miss, unless Stackhouse can get players illegally by using the Dean Smith Roy Williams curriculum.
Hell of a hire. Gotta respect how an institution of such academic prestige goes and hires a UNC alum.
Will Vandy hire someone with a fake/no degree?
I like this idea. Now Belmont needs to grab Gary Payton, Austin Peay takes Detlef Shrempf, MTSU gets Vin Baker and UT goes all in for Grant Hill and the state of Tennessee can hold its own late 90s NBA all-star game.
Seems to be that way. Calipari played at Clarion, K at Army, Izzo at Northern Michigan. Hell Rupp played off the bench at Kansas.
Fair enough. I didn't know about his D-League stint. And I guess he did well there.
But, still, that is a VERY different thing than college coaching.
Of all the predictions of who is going to be the Vandy coach this may be the craziest of all.
