I don't like Coach Ratface for obvious reasons, but he would have the players ***.

AAU basketball dilutes the meaning of winning and losing. It's all about getting yours.

This is not a far reaching thought.

AAU plays so many games and so many tournaments, I'm sure it can somehow dilute the thrill of winning or the pain of losing in kids.

The next game is usually that same day, the next tournament the next weekend - no time to be miserable over a loss or celebrate a victory.

I don't really care about it at this point. He has the rest of the season to make folks forget about this.

Briscoe thinks he is better than he is, and Cal wont tell him otherwise. Against good competition, his Jersey style layups dont work, gets it stuffed or alters his shot.

Highly overrated player, cant win with players like that, and dont give me he is a good defender B.S., Jackson lit him up, Adel lit him up, Hubbs lit him up

There were several games before we went on our slide where he played beautifully in the half court as he was not even looking at the goal. He was often around the foul-line, looking to distribute. That's totally gone now. I'm hoping it comes back once every one is fully healthy. Love Briscoe's effort, but we will NOT get to a final 4 if he's averaging more than 5 shots a game. It simply will never happen.
You make some good points. Early on this season he played really good.

I agree on how it can impact a team. A divisive "toxic" player, no matter how good, can infect a team beyond repair. Especially, a leader and great player, it is even worse because it has more gravity and influence.

Monk is not toxic. It is dumb to suggest he is. He needs to improve his D, which was actually very good the GA game, and rebounding which he never has in his life...

For every good thing Briscoe does, he does 2 bad things... not a winning/smart player... he'd rather talk **** and lose than keep his mouth shut and focus on winning

It's disgusting and he shouldn't even play next game. I mean that, I'd bench his *** so fast his head would spin.

Anyone who's ever played sports in life knows what this is. When I was losing in baseball or football in middle school, high, or college, Will Farrell in the flesh could not get a grin. I hated it.

He doesn't hate it.
I rarely agree with your posts, but...
You are correct... I think great players HATE LOSING, more than they love winning.

This!

The gator board literally has a thread watching the comments here. They are in hysterics over there. Can't fault em...

Funny. This time last year UF fans had no idea basketball season had started. It was a ghost town over there. Now all ten of their fans are making fun of us.

They are such fairweather fans.

Really wish the theatrics would stop after every call that goes against him as well. I think hes stressed about the league and overcompensating. It's hard to kill a kids dreams, but he needs some people to be realistic with him right now because it's hurting the team. He still has potential but needs to become a better shooter and needs to develop a runner/floater desperately which isn't going to happen before the 2017 draft.

I can't believe fans will defend his laughing. It's unreal what Cal has done to the
This clip is taken out of context. It's the kid's birthday. Not fair to judge his actions off this brief clip IMO. No one knows what caused this reaction.
I don't care if he just won the lottery, which he does in June. Theses guys need to know one thing money won't be able to buy is an NCAA title. They'll never have another chance at one.

Matt Jones said the student section was singing Happy Birthday to him at the time is why he was laughing, but given the score at the time it was still a bad look.
Correct. But would it have been better if he flipped them off?

Good grief, he is 19...
Oh, yeah... he should know how to act and handle every situation by that age

Where were all these new Monk haters the UNC game he won by himself?

Or the GA game he won all by himself?

The NBA crap about Monk makes you look like little jealous teenage girls.

I hate fans whose loyalties toward players, coaches and the like change so dramatically with success or failure.
They are the worst.

In Jr. High basketball, if either the Sr. or Jr. team lost there was no talking on the trip back on the bus. Just the way it was. You didn't lose without consequences.

I was there...
this is true.

I think this is an unfair criticism of monk. If anything, the kid has shown himself to be an absolute gamer.
There is more to basketball than just being a shooter, there is rebounding, defense and taking care of the basketball. hope he can turn into a complete player before he leaves.

I think some of us are taking things out of context. Monk's human. He has a wide range of emotion.

I have "hope" for this team and "faith" that we will do something special in March.

It was very poor form by Munk, considering they were getting their doors blown off. But he apparently wasn't laughing at the game situation but that the crowd was mocking him for it being his birthday. He should already understand every UK player and their actions are under a microscope. So while I think it was not smart on his behalf, I don't think it means he doesn't care about winning. At all. We were all teens at one time and did some very stupid things. But he doesn't need to be buried for it.

Yep. Most fixable problem with this team in the short term. Replace Briscoe with Mulder and the offense will almost certainly run way smoother.

Where you a 5 star AA? Were you treated the same as Monk? Did you have the same coaches and influences as Monk? Did the opposing student section know your birthday?
Can you see where I am going with this?
I am not belittling or disparaging you for being that mature at 15, and I was also; but vilifying Monk for not being the same person as you or me is wrong.
