Oh you know what I've found out is awesome- Hen Gift Culture. Seems that you can't meet up or see anyone these days without presenting them some kind of gift. Oh, we're going to see Crawley and Maggie Ann* this weekend, so I got them a bottle of wine and some sort of gift basket because they got engaged 7 months ago. Will you Venmo me your half of the money- just like $45?

If these hens want to spend half their paychecks on gifts for each other, fine. Have at it. But don't bring me into this ****. I don't want any gifts from anyone ever.

(*) Admittedly, I don't do the names as good as Richie. Bear with me.

LOL at whipped Chad. Can't imagine going halfsies on a gift for my girlfriend's friends for something like that. You definitely should not venmo her. Or venmo request to her every time you buy someone a round of drinks.

Welcome aboard Chad!

Just this past week, my wife had to get a graduation gift for one friend, and a wedding gift for another acquaintance. The graduation gift wasn't quite done when they were supposed to meet up for dinner, so she decided she would just give her the other person's wedding gift as the graduation gift, and then get another wedding gift later. (Nevermind what happens to the already purchased but not yet finished graduation gift)

And I'm the ******* for suggesting she just tell her that her gift isn't quite ready yet, and she would give it to her the following week.

Well I would definitely be prime to shed some weight. What say you William?

Dinner at Tony's for the winner?

Don't need to. I'm seriously all-in again. I just needed to decide I was ready, and I am.

Last time I lost 34 lbs in 3 months… and came in 2nd. Anth was injecting himself with tapeworms or something.

Boat, we'll go to Tony's when I break the 220 barrier in early August.

My wife is the complete opposite of nearly every other wife/gf in this thread. She literally runs all of our finances and never spends money on stupid ****. Two months after we were married, I got a nice *** chewing for spending a whole $400 on a tablet without consulting her. (spoiler alert: it's collecting dust somewhere in our house because I hate tablets) She's mellowed some since then, but there's still a budget and spreadsheet for everything. I don't even know where all our accounts are at this point. She was going to transfer some money from our joint checking (my former sole checking) into an account I didn't even know existed until she mentioned it last week.

Honestly, I love it. I hate doing all that **** and could definitely use the encouragement not to waste money on frivolous crap. It was her reasoning that paying for UK season football tickets was a completely wasted expenditure when we could attend any game we wanted for far less than the cost of the tickets averaged over the season and she was correct. We went to four games last season. Spent $100 total on tickets for the entire year.

I stopped drinking a few weeks ago and started running about 3-4 days a week and I've lost about 5lbs so I'm probably going to start drinking again
Last year, my little brother got divorced, read "The China Study" (or something like it) and started eating healthy as a pescatarian.

He had a textbook former HS football lineman that now drinks a ton of beer-bod and was probably pushing 250 at 6'-0" and is now down to a svelte 165 or so.

It's worked out great for me because I now hold him up as a genetic example of "I can shed this weight whenever I want - EASY." My wife loves when I point this out.

Also, I used to frequent the Strip House that Dennis mentioned back in the day. Meanwhile, last night I ordered Penn Station and got my wife's 6" sub for free(!) because last time they screwed up my order. So that was pretty awesome. HAHA.

Why are you getting a wedding gift to an "acquaintance"? If you are not invited to the wedding, why would you get a gift.

Current: 195-200 (depending on morning or afternoon . . . seriously)

I'm listed at 6'5 with shoes on my driver's license. Have worn 34x36 size jeans (non-tailored) since college.

Same, but 36x36 for the past few years now.

-Mentioned I'd gained a bad 30 over the past year + (thankfully had some 38's at the fams), but plan on maintaining the current 190-200 range.

Highest was the end of '06...tipped in at 248 pounds..

Give her the $45 and wear it out that night as a little pay back. It's a losing battle.

It amazes me how little my wife understands about finances. For example, she completely disregards any digits after the first one.

Me: "How much was that sweater?"

Her: "Only $100!"

(Price tag says "$199.99.")

Me: "Hey, we only have $100 in the checking account to last until Friday. Be mindful."

Her: "OK. By the way, we're going to eat tonight with the Smiths at Chez Frou Frou."

(She then proceeds to order a $20 glass of wine, a $15 appetizer and a $50 plate of chicken, after which she pays the babysitter $50.)

I mean, I guess. But we were never going, and I really prefer not to buy two wedding gifts just for the hell of it.

-The doctor based Brax's weight on the length of his necktie.

-Highest was 181...dropped it to 165 in 2 months with one simple trick.

-Coolcat's wife might be embezzling from him.

-Speaking of, I handle all of the accounts in my household. I set up an Acorns account last year and now have a sweet $1381 of rounded up pocket change sitting in an account. I'm certain my wife's secret Paypal account can't touch that.

[laughing]

I got as high as 256. Was inflamed, miserable, and ashamed.

Currently sitting at 211 (as of yesterday). Did go a bit crazy at Doc Crow's last night. Usually weigh on Friday mornings.

Hope to get to 190-195.

-My wife handles all of our finances, it's right up her alley and (I think) it fits with her duties at work being a paralegal/lease administrator (or whatever she does).

She will also question some of my spending choices from time to time, which can sometimes be annoying...like "do you really have to have a subscription to a message board?" or "do we really need surround sound with a sleeping toddler?"

Anyhow, in the end I'm glad she looks over our finances, I have zero interest in that.

-Highest weight - 195 - down to 173 now. (not that any of you know me besides KGar)

Speaking of health, they took my blood pressure at the dentist this morning. I was just there for a routine cleaning. Seemed kinda weird and totally unnecessary, but whatever. It was a little higher than it typically is at my doctor, but still well within what is considered normal.

This was probably so they could bill your insurance for additional services. Worked with an ophthalmologist who would travel from Lexington once a week to perform cataract surgery which is basically like herding cattle as they can perform many many of them in a day. He would do surgery in the morning then go to the clinic to see the patients that would be having surgery the following week. He found out that if he had the nurse check vital signs during that visit he would be reimbursed an extra $25, or so.

$25 x 10-15 pts/day = plenty of steaks, hot tub, Porsche, etc...

Back to lurking.....

I don't have dental insurance. The dentist is a personal friend. He barely charges me anything. I think the girl just had a new toy and wanted to play with it. It's the only thing that makes sense to me.

False. The reason some dentists check is because the vast majority of our population does not see a doctor for regular physicals. High blood pressure does not have symptoms and is a silent killer.

That's what I was thinking. Some people take meds prior to a cleaning if they have heart issues. the bacteria has something to do with it. Probably don't want nervous people falling out in the chair.

Not only is it a screening tool for one of the most prevalent health care problems, but hypertension can also play a role with your dental care. Many anesthetics contain epinephrine, which can further exacerbate high blood pressure or cause arrhythmia. Elevated blood pressure can also be problematic for excessive bleeding.

Some people take prophylactic antibiotics that might be at high risk for infectious endocarditis.

A scary percentage of brain tumors are detected thru a regular eye exam, too (30, I believe). I know 2 colleagues whose dads were spotted in this manner. Preventative maintenance is extremely important, and it's amazing how much dentists and optometrists can find out about you via the basic tests.

But what do I know? I'm the sack of **** who will be wheelchair bound in 4-5 years.
