So, rolled down to Atlanta early Friday to visit my buddy and his pregnant wife, who also happens to be one of the lass's best friends. They introduced us, actually, and then left town right before we started dating. It was a grown up trip, but we still managed to get nice and oiled both nights. They live out in Roswell, which is a gorgeous area 25 minutes or so from downtown. Reminds me of the Carolinas and Virginia with all the pines and such. I just love those areas.
Friday night, after pounding all day, hit up a trendy restaurant in Buckhead and then some dope rooftop bar, followed by this speakeasy right there by East Andrews. I love Buckhead, but it's so weird to me. It's basically the South's Dubai- this one downtown area full of swanky skyscrapers that look they were all built within the last 5 years. Just has that feel of new money, but little character at all. Atlanta is so odd- three separate downtowns in one city.
Saturday, hit up this street festival in the Little Five Points area- which is the urban, artistic part of town. Now, that was cool and interesting. Loved that part of the city and was the first I've ever been in Atlanta that wasn't just preppy and moneyed. The festival was huge and awesome. Great food and beer. Fun parade. All kinds of art. It was definitely hipster, diverse and urban, but it really stood out to me the lack of hoodrats/white trash like you see at Cincinnati/Covington Mainstrasse type street festivals. No morbidly obese people waddling around. No bums. No methheads. Got 3-4 "Go Cats!" as I was rocking a UK tee. That's one thing I love about Atlanta- it's pretty much the hub of the SEC, along with Nashville.
Saturday night grabbed dinner in Roswell and rolled back to the house. Really good seeing my buddy and his girl and catching up.
