-Have never known less about an NFL Draft than I do going into tonight. Just checked out a mock that has Ezekiel Elliott going 4th. Thought the days of running backs being first-round picks was over, but I guess Todd Gurley changed that.

Either way, the NFL Draft is consistently enjoyable on the first night because of Kiper and the Browns making some wack pick. Moving the draft to Chicago means we no longer get Jets fans mercilessly booing whoever their team selects, so that sucks.

-Love it when fast-food chains have clearly run out of new ideas. Saw a commercial this morning for Burger King's new "Supreme Breakfast Sandwich", which is just two of everything on those extra-long buns they still have sitting around. Basically every new product is a shell game.

-Halfway through a pretty interesting KET special that is basically an hour-long conversation between Billy Reed and Paul Rodgers. Reed is as un-Billy-Reed-like as he'll ever be, so he's okay, but it's pretty interesting hearing how Rodgers got into the business, the influence Cawood had on him, etc. He's as good as it gets on the college mic.

-Still have no clue why college football programs have to nail down out-of-conference games 12 years out. Or why Jon Rothstein calls it BREAKING NEWS when "sources" tell him that Syracuse will host Duquesne on November 29th or whatever.

The idea of having a player enter into some sort of confidentiality agreement in exchange for a release to transfer to another school is interesting. Certainly a business would do the same, i.e. if an employer were to release an employee from a non-compete obligation it would be reasonable to get something (confidentiality, non-disparagement, etc..) in return as part of a separation agreement. It might be a little heavy handed to have a college student sign something similar, but it probably would be a valid contract.

Unfortunately, the truth will never come out.

Well, not unless said player wants to have their release retroactively withdrawn, be forced to return to the school, and face a huge lawsuit from Mitchell and the University of Kentucky.

That pretty much how this works, LadyCat?

ps just make something up. it's just a message board, for petes sake.

The Phi Kappa Psi fraternity will be absent from the UK Greek community until at least 2021. They received the five-year suspension for hazing pledges, performing activities such as:

  • Forced alcohol consumption to the point of vomiting with either warm/skunked Colt 45 called “Ring of Fire,” and a concoction called “Riptide.”
  • Lineups in the basement of the fraternity that often involved yelling or verbal abuse.
  • Pledges were not allowed to sit on furniture, not allowed in certain rooms of the fraternity house.
  • Pledges performed calisthenics in/around vomit.
  • During initiation week, pledges were forbidden from their place of residence, showering or using their cell phone.
  • Pledges were forced to watch gay porn.
All of those violations were from a report by Denise Simpson of the Office of Student Affairs. Phi Psi confirmed that all of the violations took place, primarily in the fall of 2015.

It’s not “rolling toilet paper around a man and lighting him on fire” level hazing, but it’s still some pretty serious stuff.

It's such a different world these days.

Nice dig though on the SAE's.

[laughing]

PS. I cut and pasted this.

One of my buddies was in this frat graduated 2014. Maybe that's why he moved to Tallahassee

I think there may have been some high school girls involved at some point as well.

I've driven from Kentucky to DC (round trip) and Naples to Kentucky in the past few weeks. A few notes...

- Driving over 500 miles at a time sucks.
- There is no redneck like Central Gulf Coast Florida redneck.
- West Virginia redneck is pretty close though. What a scary *** state. Easily 20 years behind the rest of the country.
- The McDonald's down the street from the Greenbrier Resort in WV is a freak show.
- Pecan trees are very pretty.
- The pecan log roll I ate yesterday was disappointing. Was a lot better 30 years ago.
- Saw Confederate flags flying in VA, FL, and Georgia. Big ones. Flying proud for everyone to see.
- Seeing the ocean never gets old.
- Waze is fantastic and easily saved me 3-4 speeding tickets. Also helped me avoid 2 major crash delays. Thanks Anth!

What's the O/U on buyer's remorse for a "tiny house" owner? I'll go 18 months. I'm sure the things hold their value about as well as an electronic device too. Probably be more prudent to just rent a studio apartment until you're through your Hobbit phase.

No way its even 18 months. I think the reality has to set in shortly after closing when you realize you shouldve just taken our a bigger mortgage and got an actual house. The first time you wake up and bang your head on the ceiling from your stupid loft bed will probably cause severe anxiety that will only be topped when you sell it for 65% of what you paid for it.

- Daughtery is the best sports columnist around. He's a good writer. He's fair. He gives his opinion without being sensational. He's equally solid in columns and as a blogger. Unlike say, Pat Forde, he doesn't show bias when dealing with personal and professional relationships- he wrote a book with Chad Johnson but that never stopped him from being critical of the guy. He's not afraid to call out the ******** of today's sports media and other writers. Today is a good example as he gets after Skip Bayless and Mike and Mike (click the link at the start). Cincinnati is lucky to have the guy. Plus, his pieces on his daughter Jillian who has down syndrome are tremendous- funny, touching, sweet and really, really well-written. It inspired a book, which I still need to read.

- The NFL Draft is awesome. It was more awesome when it began on a Saturday but whatever- it's all about ESPN and the Benjamins. Sounds like the Who Deys are locked into a wideout- Doctson?

- Funny thing about the UNC stuff is that it takes into account NOTHING from McCants and doesn't even touch the fact Hairston was driving expensive rentals his entire time there.

- West Virginia is a weirdass state. Just driving through it is eerie. Feels like you've gone back a few decades. We went to the dog track and casino a few years back for a bachelor party and even the music was all 90s all the time. I didn't mind it, but it was amusing.

Yeah… my cousin and his wife built a tiny house last year. I'd like to say they'll grow out of it but it's been a long time coming. They went super minimalistic about 5 years ago, sold almost everything they owned and only have the absolute necessities. That's cool and all, but when you have a house and don't even furnish it to where guests have a place to sit and the spare bedroom has no bed in it, you need to check yourself. So they really didn't give up much by moving into a tiny house but only because they lived so weird to begin with. Hard to believe he's the same guy that grew up my best friend, but marry a crazy woman and that's what can happen to you.

The Cincinnati Post sports section was a daily go-to for me when I was in HS and college. They had Daugherty AND Joe Posnanski, plus a weekly column by Andy Furman. Then you had Terry Boehmker covering prep sports for the KY Post, and he gave a pretty fair amount of attention to the 10th Region.

Between that crew and Chuck Culpepper being at the LHL at the same time, you couldn't get much better than those days.

That 30 for 30 about Rand, WV may be the most spot on 30 for 30 of them all. I get it. Couldn't imagine growing up in an environment like that. The whole metro Charleston area, and throw Huntington in there as well, is just strange. Are they cities? Are they big towns? Are they small towns with a few short skyscrapers?

Unfortunately there is a lot of Kentucky that resembles West Virginia.

Granted I've never been in deep EKy, but I don't get the same vibes at all. Usually when you get to a "big" city on a trip, the vibe kind of perks up, but Charleston is downright depressing when you drive through it. It's almost like the entire state is in a shadow. Driving through the mountains is pretty but it's still odd.

The Mothman Prophecies is the scariest movie I've ever seen. I think it captures that weird West Virginia feel pretty well.

I grew up in Charleston, WV from 4th grade until HS graduation. My wife is from Parkersburg, WV and we have to go back there at least once every couple of months so she can hang out with them. WV is like the twilight zone. My parents still live in Charleston - when I lived there in the 90's the population was around 120K, the population now is 49K. Its completely dying. When the McDonalds in the middle of "downtown" goes out of business in the least healthy state in the country you know there is a problem. Nothing can be built because of the mountains, and coal and all that other crap is dwindling so there is really nothing to be done there. Going to Parkersburg is like going back to 1994, was just there last week and honest to god I saw a guy walking around with a Duckhead sweatshirt - I hadn't seen one of those in at least a decade - the last time I was in WV.

They talk to us about being from Columbus as if we live in NYC. I will say Kentucky is massively redneck, and Ashland, KY is pretty similar level of redneck to WV, but otherwise the redneck in KY is more genuine and classy somehow. More of a southern feel. The west Virginia redneck is more of a patchwork of redneck, and they talk much faster. More unkempt, less cool and no fun traditions like bourbon and horse racing etc. WV really doesn't have a cool "tradition". Comparing Kentucky and WV is like comparing NY to Jersey.

Anyone know our record against Louisville in Lacrosse, Rugby, or Quidditch? Might be able to bring a strong counter point.

Ted Cruz spinoff question:

Who would you pick from GYERO as your running mate?

I'm thinking Harris has to be up there. Connections all over the place.

LadyCat92 because she is a woman and black. Which is why Condoleezza Rice would be perfect for Trump. Walk off VP choice.

* Back at work today after a few days at Kentucky Lake. I love the whole LBL area. One of my favorite parts of the country. Just beautiful.

* It was nice being able to take my 78 yr old Dad down there. He lives a very active lifestyle and is in incredible shape for being that old. But I know he is not invincible. Especially since he still smokes 2 packs of Marlboros a day. He also refuses to use sunscreen, despite having already had sizable portions of his ears removed due to skin cancer. He caught some big fish and loved it.

* Our guide was a retired fireman from Chicago (he didn't know Tommy). He and his wife moved down to Benton and he started working at the guide service and bought it outright last year. Not a bad way to spend your mid 50s, IMO.

* Chief, your food rec sucked. 4 Little Pigs was not good. The BBQ was mediocre at best and the cornbread was actually rotten. Horrible. The fried okra was good, though.

* My co-worker played golf with Pitino the other day. He said Rick was great and brought up the investigation on his own since they weren't supposed to talk about it.

Apparently he was interviewed by the NCAA again the day before. He said they were much less aggressive toward him this time because they know he is innocent. Despite his obvious innocence, he has hired the same lawyer that Boeheim and Calhoun used.

He claimed that it was just recruits and maybe one player involved.

Can't wait for more scuttlebutt to come to fruition and bury the whole damn program for a few years.

* The Americans with another good episode last night.

* My niece had her Confirmation on Saturday. We had a little party at their house and my BIL smoked some tri-tips. Wow. He did a reverse sear on them at the end. They were incredible.

Only $6/lb., too. I may go up and get one for the smoker this weekend.

Apparently the popularity of the tri tip sambo at Taft Ale House has caused the demand for that cut to go up at local butchers.

* Yard is looking good. I'm going to borrow my neighbor's nuclear powered edger this weekend if stays dry long enough.

* I think Harmon should take over the women's team. Dude is intelligent as touch and would do it for 1/3 the salary, plus popcorn. LC could be his assistant.

Best app in the last few years. Going to be interesting to see which car manufacturer integrates it first and how police respond.

Congrats Willy, sounds like a great trip. Think I'll be taking Dad out for some golf and fishing next week too. Once they cross 70, man you just never know. Shew.

Anybody familiar with Cumberland know the best time of year for Striper fishing? That looks fun.

Have always heard Starn's was the BBQ choice for the Paducah area.

I'd pick Sloot as a running mate. Woman who can organize and get things done, key features for a Veep.
