Question for GYERO, M.D.:

I had an upper respiratory infection early last week. I flew to Washington and my ears became extraordinarily painful during landing. Couldn't really hear very well for a few hours after landing. Fast forward to today, on the flight home...landing...my ears again became painful, but not quite as bad as last time. But, I can't hear jack ****, still, and it's been 5 hours since we landed. I'd say I've got about 15 percent hearing loss in my left ear and 85% in my right ear.

Is there any GD thing I can do to get those cocksuckers unclogged? TIA.

I've tried:

Zyrtech
Mucinex
Sudafed PE (couldn't get the good ****, pharmacy was closed).
Hot shower
Various tips and tricks to get your ears to pop.

And so far nothing. In fact at times it hurts around the back side of my neck. I could be imploding?

Any suggestions other than jamming an ice pick into my brain and killing myself?

Go to an ENT and have them vac those sum'bitches out. It'll feel great, maybe.

One time, after a haircut, a clipped hair ended up in my ear against my eardrum (probably because I have ear buds in all the time, LOL <seriously>). Every time I tilted my head back, it would sound like I was surrounded by loud ocean waves. The ENT fixed me up quick.

When nano-bots finally get to work on clearing out sinuses, etc., on the reg, we'll have really reached the pinnacle of human achievement, imo.

Same thing happened to me like 10 years ago. Miserable. I finally got one to pop by doing the hold your nose and blow trick.

You're on the right track in terms of what to try. The real sudafed is the best thing to try, so get some of that tomorrow and take it as directed for a couple of days. And then while you're taking it, try the yawn/wide-open-mouth techniques to get your eustachian tubes to open. That's the most likely issue - that the eustachian tubes are inflamed from the respiratory infection, and therefore the ears can't equalize the pressure on the two sides of the eardrum. If a doctor (primary care or ENT) were to take a look at your eardrums, they would be abnormally convex or concave (depending on whether the pressure differential is positive or negative).

It should go away on its own in a few days, but real sudafed might speed up the process. It primarily decongests the nasal passages, but it sometimes helps decongest the eustachian tubes as well.

Chewing gum might help, definitely worth a try.

If it stays this way for a few days you could develop ear infections in one or both ears, in which case you might need antibiotics. But for now, I'd say to try to avoid them.

In the future, when you have a cold or resp infection, take sudafed *before* you get on a plane, and do lots of jaw stretching during the flight.

Y'all know in the first Jurassic park when the T-Rex hunts down those big ostrich looking gallimimus or whatever? It gets one on the ground and is starting to tear into it but the gallimimus lets out this primal scream and bites at the T. rex but the T. rex just starts devouring it, completely unphased? That gallimimus is the air raid siren

-If Patty was interested in really playing he should have dropped down a level. TS. BC is so terrible he has no chance.

-Weekend was incredible. Couldn't ask for more. Weather 75/55 with almost no clouds. Keeneland was on point. 3 solid bike rides. Grilled out a few times. Still a little foggy from some over serving.

-RueLaLa has been crushing recently. If you like Brooks Brothers, Southern Tide, etc. They've had sales several times the past few weeks. Got the 'drobe back to sea level.

-Best time of the year. Masters, Keeneland, weather, Derby Season, sun setting at 9p. Really happy, y'all.

Figured out why it's so warm. It's all the sunshine Maggard is pumping about UK football. The Ned Flanders of the Bluegrass.
D is going to really struggle against the run. O has potential but I'm not sold on Barker. Schedule is ridiculous.

- Beautiful, beautiful weekend. Perfect weather to be honest.

- Parade day on Saturday. Kids got to ride the big firetruck with the ladder. Pretty awesome experience. Always fun to see the kids smiling, laughing, etc. One of the my Top 2 or 3 days of the year tbh...especially with that weather!!!

- Lost a heartbreaker yesterday. Bad coaching. Put kids in position to fail. Learning experience for sure. But felt bad the whole way home. Totally on the coaches.

- Etown Sports Park is a pretty amazing place. It's even more amazing that that place doesn't exist in Louisville or Lexington. Both cities missed the boat on that bonanza. Place was packed. Fields are almost perfect.

- Talked to a coach yesterday from Franklin, OH. Said Kennard was really torn about the UK/Duke decision. Really came down to the end.

- UK Football.

- Fun weekend, but man, I am struggling today. Sun-burnt. Tired. Remnants of a hangover.

- So sounds like our Big 3 (Bam, Fox, Monk) balled out on Friday night.

-If Bam was on this years team I think we cut down the nets. Even hit 2 baseline 12 footers. Didn't realize he had that game. He looked great.

-I don't think Monk is going to be the source of frustration. I bet it's Gabriel. Monk is pretty f*cking complete. That stroke is NOOOOICE and he's all over the place.

Captain's Quarters Friday evening.

18 Saturday

27 Sunday.

Grilled both nights.

...first summer-feeling weekend of the year, pretty perfect all around. My little dome is burnt/tender AF. Nice to get that out of the way early though...should be olive til November.

-New clubs are sweet. Also found an old Bettinardi putter in the garage I didn't even know I had -- not sure how that's even possible? Anyways, it's in my bag now. Ole Scotty needs a break.

-Europe, 16 days.

-Another new toy purchase coming later today, shout to Huber for the help:

-14-3 in baseball gambol this season. o_O May be enough to get me halfway interested again.

-Need a new Neftlix Show...prefer darker dramas, typically w/ a crime/mystery element. Any recs? Anyone seen Happy Valley?

If Gabriel is as advertised i will have a hard time getting frustrated with him. You play with a motor revved to the max, rebound and defend and i can handle some offensive mistakes. That's why Skal was so damn infuriating, he didn't give you the max effort, no way he could have. He had a 9 game stretch with 15 rebounds and 3 in a row in that stretch of no rebounds. Vern would have doubled that imo.

There is a great documentary on Netflix called "Somm" that I would recommend. It's about this group of dudes studying to take the Master Sommelier exam, which only, like, 140 people or so have ever passed.

We have 2 of those Master Sommeliers here in Louisville. One is a partner at Bristol, the other is part of Doc Crow's/Cantina.

Seem to be wasting their exclusive expertise imo.

Is Anthony the only one in Lexington?

Yep. Hope it snows.

Anyone else's allergies having a record year? :grimace:

-Yes, UCL. Was aware of Brett Davis, b/c it gets mentioned any time the Ton guys do something new. Didn't know of the other one until I googled after your post.

Are you sure they're "master" level? Because there are apparently multiple ranks to this **** that I had no idea existed.
That show was on cable as well I caught it a few times. I think Troy was pretty high up there if that's who BBdk is talking about. He was with Corbett for years.

My wine is typically Bota Box these days.
