Spake said Skal and Lee were in class, so it's not like they're getting up at 6 am for these workouts.
That's what I figured because I had heard Cal say Skal was in there a few times.

-I don't think I trust Oklahoma. Something seems off there. Not saying they're not good but something bothers me about them.

-I casually watched Vinyl last night. Solid sex scenes. Wasn't paying enough attention to follow the actual story.

-Award shows are terrible. Someone just let me know when Kendrick is going on and I'll be fine.

-BBdk's take on Cal toss is the correct one.

Let em keep trying, more likely to replace all the CRNAs (anesthesia nurses) anyway.
This is getting interesting to watch. Lots of lobbying going on by MDAs (and CRNAs for that matter), lots of downward price pressures applied to hospitals (thus it's cheaper going the CRNA route). Community hospitals especially have to make their dollars go further. Does pinching pennies = cutting corners? Probably not, as long as they don't do things they don't know. A knee scope or tonsillectomy doesn't really require the guidance or supervision or expertise of an anesthesiologist.

What a **** column. Richard Pitino on his list of coaches that are killing it?

The column does suck, but Little Richard is actually listed under coaches NOT killing it.

* I don't think the ejection was planned by Cal, but it wouldn't shock me if it was.

* Spent hours shoveling then making a big snow fort for my girls yesterday. By 8:00 last night, I couldn't straighten my back.

I felt good about myself for building the fort and playing with the kids. Until I threw the first snowball at the fort. It was an innocent lob over the walls from long distance. Helluva shot, really.

3 year old. Right in the forehead. She went inside crying and never returned. All Dad of the Year considerations instantly melted away.

* Forget about ol' Doc approaching 270. Ol' Wildcat Willy is rapidly closing in on 250. I'll probably take the BEFORE pic tonight and start getting fit tomorrow. As long as my back doesn't hurt anymore.

But all you guys are going to be sooooo jealous when Boat and I strut into the 1st football tailgate with our shirts off. Man, it is going to be epic. "Is Bonzo a triplet? Holy ****, that's WW and Dr. X!!! They look fantastic!!! But WW's tats are still terrible."

* Better Call Saul with a solid start to season 2.

* Hail, Caesar was a disappointment.

* 80 Proof and B$ are yet more evidence that GYERO leads to good looking kids.

* I'll probably start eating right tomorrow, too. Looks like we are having a creative meeting at the chinese buffet today.

* X-Files has been a pleasant surprise after a so-so start.

* Today's soundtrack in my office is a mix of Cage the Elephant, Black Keys, White Stripes and Foxy Shazam.

Kansas rounding into form and looking like the best team, as expected. Certainly the deepest. Graham is really coming on for them...

Easy to overlook Perry Ellis b/c of the stigma that comes along with being a 4 year player...must mean you aren't very good, etc. He's absolutely one of the best players in the country this season.

Still no true elite teams though, I just think they're probably the best overall -- and we took them to OT in the Phog in a game we should have won, and WOULD have won on any other floor on the planet that night.

I like my team.

There was a Carl Weathers for about 10 years running, listed on our fraternity composites. Think it began with Bonzo's class and became a random thing. Other random names to make the composite: Bud Selig and Todd Bridges (of Different Strokes fame).
Ha, yeah. The irony of the running Carl Weathers joke is that while we had several of them over the years that could have brandished the coveted moniker, it was usually the most country guy in the chapter. Glad your crew kept that going.

With the Kansas game and Wisconsin last year, I agree with Cal in that Sirmons can get pumped.

Absolutely. And that's why he shouldn't have been on the USCjr. game.

** UNC/Kansas both scare me because they have frontcourts that can score consistently (relatively speaking) and control the paint. This is why OU doesn't fit the bill. They can't get it done inside.

I disagree a bit. I think UK's guards get to the paint better. Oklahoma relies a lot more on the 3.

I agree completely - that's why I'm not too worried about them if we were to face them because we have the ability to drive the ball if our shots are not falling, unlike the Sooners, who basically concede that they will live or die by the three.

And outside of crazy ish like Canty, we guard the three decently well.

Last six wins, we're only giving up 27.5% from three.
In the losses to Kansas and Auburn, we gave up 47%.

If you include all six wins, plus the UT and Kansas loss - it's 31%. Auburn went 12-26 from three.

One thing I'm absolutely certain of with this team is that our guards' buttholes will not tighten up in the big moments. Ulis, Murray, and Briscoe seem to relish the pressure and I think they'll continue their fantastic play into March.

If our defense continues to be suffocating and we can get decent minutes from the bigs, we're right there with the top teams. The big wild card is Poythress, assuming he is able to get back out there.

And it's probably been mentioned before, but Briscoe and Murray are fantastic rebounding guards. That's huge for a team with an iffy frontcourt.

In summation, I too like my team.

Nobody scares the bejezzus out of me, but I'd prefer to avoid Maryland and Stone/Dodd/Carter. Not sure I want to see Purdue or Michigan State either.

I actually think we match up really well with Kansas and I think UNC would have all kinds of trouble containing our guards.

^Posted the same thing yesterday. Humphries would need to have a big game against Purdue.

We match up well with UNC offensively and they match up well with us offensively. Would be a fun *** game.

Like that Murray has gotten his turnovers under control. First half of the season (12 games), he had 8 games with 3 or more, these last 13 games just 2 games with 3 or more turnovers.

I'm sure it has been mentioned in one of the previous 1000 pages, but I don't remember ever seeing a team draw as many offensive fouls (push-offs) as this team has. It's nice having guards that can move their feet quickly enough to consistently draw the push-off. Ulis and Briscoe are good for at least one each every game, and should probably draw more than that.

I'd prefer to avoid Notre Dame, WVU, and Michigan St. Then again, if we play any of those teams, it'll be Sweet Sixteen/Elite Eight, so it is what it is at that point.

I wouldn't want to play Louisville either. But they won't be in the tourney, so :cool2:[cheers][banana].

When I say UNC and KU scare me it's because I hate them and I don't want them to have any tourney success. I'm scared that they're good enough to win 6 in a row though. So in that regard, IU scares me too. Bryant gives them a chance to win a few imo. Howeva, IU ain't winning it all.

^ exactly. Same reason the 2012 UofL game was so miserable...albeit on a different level being our best Cal team and in the FF.

My thing about Oklahoma that would worry me if I were a fan of those guys, more in general for winning 6 games in a row than a potential Kentucky matchup...

The other guards on that team don't realize that Buddy Hield is the best dude on that team. Isaiah Cousins is an absolute maniac, and it feels like he either goes bonkers or plays badly to the point of sabotage, which would be fine if he wasn't the team's primary ball handler. OU's last offensive possession against Kansas was a nightmare because Cousins didn't pass it to anybody and then jacked a 25 footer, and it wasn't like they were doubling Buddy and denying him the ball. The LSU and TEXAS games should have shown them that Buddy would have found a way to get it if they'd just get it to him.

Another alarming thing about Oklahoma is that after dominating the glass for 35 minutes and getting back into the game mostly because of offensive rebounding, they couldn't get any clutch rebounds down the stretch against Kansas. Credit to KU's bigs, but OU got shut out on the boards with the game on the line.

More college basketballs...

* How high of a seed can Monmouth get? And could they possibly get an at-large with their OOC resume? I'm going to go ahead and pencil them in for a win and maybe another. They're the best mid to low major team I've seen since either Murray State with Isaiah Canaan or Davidson with Steph Curry.

* Another team I'm automatically giving a win in the first round: Oakland. Much like Belmont and Holy Cross before them, they're the mid-major that's come close a few times and is due a win. Kay Felder is ridiculous. Martez Walker can shoot it and so can that white guy who Oakland seemingly always has. Percy Gibson is a bull moose down low.

* Sean Farnham posted on Twitter yesterday that ranked teams last week went 27-23 and that 16 of the 23 losses came against unranked teams. EVERYBODY SUCKS. More than ever, I really believe this is the year that a 1 seed loses to a 16. There's candidates out there, at least on the 1 side.

* Tom Leach and Mike Pratt's call of the South Carolina game was hilarious. Glad announcers don't have the same restrictions coaches and players do when it comes to talking about officials. I've never heard them dish it out like that before. Sirmons going directly into our huddle at the end to T up Briscoe was amazing.

* Eff the Duke/UNC rivalry. It's fine, way up there, even - just not incomparable. Not enough hatred for my taste in a rivalry. Duke/UNC fans don't have their years ruined with losses like Kentucky/Louisville. Think UNC matches up way too well with them this season and wins both by 9-12.

* We can talk about teams we don't want to see in the NCAA and we've all got our different ones, but this much is true: None of them want to see us right now either. It's a backcourt's tournament and as long as that's true and none of our guards get struck by lightning, I feel alright.

Wayne Selden should get called for this every drive.

I think UC had an announcer ejected from a game a few years back actually.

^ Rack'em.

Kay Felder is unreal.

How about Ben Bentil @ Providence? Dunn deservedly gets all the love, but this dude has turned nearly unstoppable. Put up 42 the other night...and has 5 other games over 25.

I think UC had an announcer ejected from a game a few years back actually.

Chuck Machock. It was a tournament game vs Gonzaga.

Dan Hoard said, "Coach Huggins has just been ejected and he's about to be joined by my partner!"

-----

It was nuts, all right.

With Gonzaga up, 47-40, Cincinnati Coach Bob Huggins went gonzo on referee Mike Kitts after Bearcat forward Jason Maxiell was called for traveling in the backcourt. Huggins clearly thought his player had been fouled.

Huggins screamed in protest and received a technical for leaving the coaching box. A few seconds later, he was hit with a second technical for refusing to leave the floor. He was escorted away at the 16:17 mark, jawing to police officers as he was led up the corridor.

This is the same Huggins who, last Sept. 28, suffered a nearly fatal heart attack in Pittsburgh, an experience that apparently has not tempered his on-court passion or his hair-trigger temper.

Meanwhile, courtside, Bearcat color commentator Chuck Machock did not wish to confine his feelings to his listening audience. When Kitts got within earshot, Machock blistered the referee with a foul-mouthed tirade.

"That's a terrible call, you SOB, terrible," Machock yelled at Kitts.

Kitts told Machock to pipe down or "You're going to be next," but Machock wouldn't let up.

Machock, a former coach and longtime friend of Huggins, took off his headset during his tirade. Hoard, the play-by-play man, wasn't sure how much of his partner's comments were heard on the air.

Soon, University of Utah official Steve Pyne approached Machock and said, "The NCAA wants you gone."

Mochock protested vehemently -- "What did I say? What did I say?" -- before being escorted off by uniformed officers.

Martin said Cal seemed on edge in the pregame. Cal knew how S Carolina would try to bully this group and how important of a game it was.

The tv clip of him right before made it seem like a volcano was about to erupt. Think he was going to have a short leash with any bs that day, especially since Sirmons reffed the Kansas game. Right after the Carera shove in the back no call he wanted to set the tone & wanted that first technical. He was walking away during the 2nd tech.

Once he was run he probably thought..Touch it. Going all in before I head to the lockeroom. Players ate it up showing he had their back. Loved it.

Machock calling UC games was like if Chumps called UK games.

(or Bengals, Reds, Crew, Blue Jackets, Timberwolves, US soccer, Bangledeshian Badmitten League, etc.)
He was pretty awful. Had the UL schtick of everyone by a first name basis, the Chumps schtick everyone is conspiring against us, etc. all down.

The worst kind of homer. Not the lovable kind of homer like Dave Lapham.

Duke/UNC playing a home and home every year takes from the rivalry IMO. Most years I guess they split so the one game winner takes the rights for the year is bigger.

And UNC/Duke fans can't even begin to understand the pressure when UK/UL meet in the tourney. The week before that final 4 game in 12 was gd miserable.

Cal was NOT walking away when he got the 2nd. He was jawing with Sirmons at the scorer's table.

Actually, he had just turned around and was being escorted back to his seat by Barbee and a player.

***NEVERMIND*** Sirmon had already decided to T him up by that point.
