the ultimate arbiter? hardly.

what part do you want to talk about it. from his perspective, being black is a key part of his journey, and the struggles and tribulations that he overcame.

Generally speaking, black people live a vastly different life than white people, just like asian people do, and hispanic people, and muslim people. He is making that point. sorry it offends all the whities ITT. But, believe it or not, thats his reality.
I'd love to meet you. Just so I could slap the taste out of your mouth and watch you run to a safe space.

because threatening to "slap the taste" of our someones mouth on a message board is SUPER classy and mature.

Fingers crossed that you've taught your children that, when presented with an opinion that differs significantly from their own, they should always threaten to "slap the taste" out of that person's mouth.

What I find odd is people are just vehemently disgusted by the language that he used. If you think NFL teams, players and coaches don't readily utilize this language, I don't know what to tell you. I watched Hard Knocks with the Texans two years ago. Deshaun better get REAL used to hearing GD and F@#k out of his Head Coach's mouth.
It's not necessarily what he said, but when and where he said it! Come on man! He wasn't on a football field. You think that's something young kids need to see and hear? There's a time and place for everything. That wasn't the time or the place for his outburst of emotion.

I mean, what does this conversation actually matter outside of pissing people off for something that has no bearing on their life?

a bunch of white dudes ITT getting butthurt because he either 1) told people he was black, 2) said ********, or 3) dropped an F bomb. And somehow these people are NOT the "snowflakes" ITT.

but, it DOES have a major impact on their lives, THE KIDS MAN! DONT YOU KNOW KIDS MELT AND DIE WHEN THEY HEAR PEOPLE CURSE ON TV. AND THERE IS NO AMOUNT OF PARENTING THAT CAN STOP A KID FROM HEARING THE F BOMB, THEN BECOMING A CRIMINAL!

Think about it this way, what if Dabo had said, "Who would have thought a poor white boy from Pelham, Alabama could ever have..." Would he have been playing a race card, or just telling it like it is? Dabo doesn't say things like that because he has a filter and understands that those types of comments might be over analyzed like the one ITT.

It doesn't seem like Takkarist has such a filter or puts as much thought into it. Still doesn't mean he is playing the race card. He seems to just be identifying himself to me as an emotional "young black kid" who wasn't trying to offend anyone.

It's the draft where they acquire players for said game. If any kids heard that, I would certainly hope that their parents used it as a teachable moment, just as Deon Sanders did. As it's been stated earlier, the kid had no parents to help him learn proper decorum. Those aren't inherit traits.

Ahhh the for the kids argument. If you can't explain to your kids why he shouldn't have cussed on tv then You shouldn't be having kids to begin with.

It's funny how this one kid no one ever heard of until last Thursday is getting so many on here noses broken.

I did not take what he said as racial or an excuse. I took it the same if I heard a white guy call himself a white guy in a sentence. Or, if a man called himself a "man" or a woman called herself a "chick" or "woman."

Funny how people are "outraged" over some bad language but in the Joe Mixon threads a lot of posters on here were nearly justifying his actions or offering excuses for the poor big football player who broke a girl's face because she pushed him first. No outrage he was taken in the 2nd round. He did restrain from using dirty words in his interview....though......YAY!!!!

And, lol at those comparing this guy to how "Watson would act." That's like comparing Boulware to Renfrow because they are both white dudes. One could definitely drop some language in an interview and generally screamed, the other did not. Maybe we should tell Ben to settle down and act like Hunter.

Y'all need to worry about bigger things than some young man using bad language on TV.

That's one example. Some of y'all on here blow my mind sometimes. Anyone making excuses for him, regardless of the reason, are being rather pathetic and short sided.

Soooo all whites grow up in better situations than all blacks? How do you know there is not a white person ITT that grew up worse than that young man? You are assuming everyone ITT is white and had it great growing up. Broad brush. Oh and he acted that way and it is on him be it bad or good. Not for me to judge.

you are right, IM the bigot ITT.

as I said, carry on gentleman...

Maybe you need to take a step back to re-evaluate how you come across. Your assumption that an African American man is incapable of conducting himself as a professional is disgusting at best.

I guess it's okay for Christian McCaffrey to be entitled, you know, because he's a rich white guy from the suburbs.

I'm a Falcons fan. I don't care what he did or said. I find taking a life size picture of a dead relative a little odd but hey it's his life. If he's great at football I'll be happy he's a Falcon. If he sucks I'll forget about him.

Parents did a wonderful job with this little angel.

There's a kid that needs his butt whipped. But obviously his parents must condone his behavior.

You said that "black people" live a vastly different life than white people? What does that mean exactly? All black people are poor? Destitute? I can assure you where I'm from in SC everyone lives about the same, plays sports together, goes to school together, etc.

According to 2010 records, 45.8% of black children under the age of 6 live in poverty vs 14.5% for whites. Happy that you live in a great area. Many aren't so blessed.

black people, hispanic people, muslim people, jewish people, etc etc etc all are treated differently by society at large, by the government, by people/institutions of authority etc etc. Thats the reality of life in the USA in 2017. Its incredibly easy to find any number of statistics that back this up. It took @Lot4tiger only 5 minutes from your post to find just one.

black people, by virtue of their skin color, have different experiences than white people. Black people have different experiences than Hispanic people and so on. Its an incontrovertible fact.

You're looking for excuses to create conflict. I live in Richmond Co., GA. The local government is predominately African American just like the local population. I have zero problem with that and matter of fact, I have wonderful interactions with our leadership on a regular basis. We care about the community and we treat each other with respect. So when you assume that "we're all so different" to create division, I'm going to call you out on your bullshvt 100% of the time.

Thank you! Soft bigotry of low expectations on full display with ice and so many others. Glad to see one person gets it.

He's not the only one who gets it. Inserting "black" into any excuse, if you want to call it an excuse, is beyond ridiculous. A person that has publically made it known about hardships is CDS. Imagine what his opinion about this would be? I know because he has said it on several occasions, "two wrongs don't make a right".

what? honestly. what?

excuses to create conflict?

people are different and have different experiences based on any number of factors, where they were born, when they were born, their skin color, their hair color, their height. that doesnt "create conflict".

Im glad you treat your neighbors with respect, regardless of their skin color. Its an absolute fact that not everyone/everything does. just like YOU get treated differently than a black person, or an asian person, or a jewish person by other people and by institutions of power etc (im assuming you are a white christian male because thats the overwhelming majority of the board) because of your skin color. these are baseline facts.

As others have said, why is it okay to use race as a rationale/excuse. It has no bearing and it is over used as a crutch. Maybe a better example than McCaffrey. Is it okay for Johnny Manzel to use his race and socioeconomic means as an excuse for partying to excess or getting "rough" with his girlfriend?

who is using race as an "excuse"? honestly. who?

you have to read an awful lot into a social media post from someone you've never met in your entire life to get to criticizing the kid for "using race as an excuse".

bringing up race, and the fact that a person's race can be a factor in the way they experience the world isnt "using race as an excuse".

First off, I stated 'rationale/excuse' purposely as the word excuse has a level of negative connotation. In short, he was rationalizing what he said. So how would you characterize his public statement? An apology, contrition, justification, or?

I don't think you see the point some folks are trying to make. You are justifying using race as an explanation, but only if you are of a certain race.
