A play action pass in the first half set up Diaz for a wide open pass for an easy TD. Good blocking gave Heck a solid pocket to deliver the ball. What happened? His throw wasn't even close. RVZ drops a pass in his hands that bounces to a Gopher DB in the 2nd half.

I don't understand why everyone is sold on Heck. He's extremely inconsistent and Brown is just marginally better.
Has Brown performed as well as Heck did against Washington, at any time in his career? The answer is no, Heck at least gives a glimmer of hope that maybe we will have a good game. Brown is consistently bad, Heck is either really good, or really terrible. Ill take the guy who has a chance of maybe playing well.

Let's not let the coaches off the hook here. Yes the players made many mistakes but Kirk and Co. were thoroughly outcoached by Minnesota. They had our offense on lockdown the entire game.
Our coached? Yeah I'm not too sure about that.

Tha Hawks had more first downs, more passing, rushing and total yards than the Goofs. PP sure did his job.

This one is on the players IMO. Mistakes cost the Hawk's this one.

we literally handed Floyd over to the Goofs

is it right that we don't play Minny again until 2030?

Really sucks what Fleck will be doing to Floyd over the next several years. He'll need to be steam cleaned.....

I'm usually hard on the coaches after a loss, but this loss is on the players.
-3 interceptions
-1 lost fumble
-1 blocked punt
-crucial offsides on a game changing goal line stop

Supposedly, the coaching didn't teach them not to turn the ball over during the bye week.

I thought we had a projected rivalry? Last night was the first I've heard about no playing them until 2030.... The announcers kept saying Iowa won the jug from Michigan, so did they mean to say Michigan and MN don't play until 2030?

Lol like Hank was any better. I wish Kirk would just come out and admit Hank is his favorite. I would actually have more respect

But ultimately it doesn't matter. Both QBs are so average...at best. Do we really have to put up with one of these guys the next 2 years?

Let's rip the bandaid off and start playing Sullivan or Bessinger if they have shown any ability to be decent QBs. No harm in trying to play for the futurr at this point. Season is done anyway for any meaningful outcome
Or join the modern era and get a true dual threat in the portal.

Please explain WHAT Heck did against Washington that stood out, that was any different then what Brown did against an opponent that couldn't stop our run game. We ran the ball up Washingtons As- the first 3Q. Heck was never pressured and threw three TD.s to three guys who didn't have a defender within 10 yds of them. (that's how play action works when the other team can't stop the run). The two balls he threw to the endzone to DJV, and RVZ they were so open he just threw off his back foot and lobbed then ball up in the air because no one was anywhere around them.

Which guy? They both had plenty........
The poster I was replying to was talking about Hank.

I agree…..both QB’s were awful. I still can’t understand why we can’t consistently get at least a decent QB anymore. The most important position in football, and Iowa can’t get it right.

Gronowski was the best since Stanley, but it took him 1/2 a season to get there.

MG was a good pick up and we paid him accordingly. He was coming off a shoulder surgery, and learning an entirely new system. Have to think we win handily yesterday with him at the helm.

That RVZ drop leading to an INT shouldn't go against Heck when you think about it

To put this on the defense is truly idiotic. 4 TOs a blocked punt. And they gave up 13 points. The only thing the defense did wrong was fall asleep with under a minute to go to get it to OT.

Who's putting this on the defense?

At the same time, you can't line up offsides that badly. You just can't. And it cost the team 7 points.

The one thing I was worried about was player execution coming out of the bye.

You can blame Kirk for the dogsh** record in bye games, and there is a common theme with his players' lack of execution.

However, I think even the coaches were befuddled at our players' stupidity today.

There were a number of shots of the staff on the sidelines with frustrated coordinators and Kirk at our mistakes and lack of execution.

And of course there's the shots of Kirk wincing every time Hecklinski did something against his liking, such as when he chose to pitch the ball to Ostrenga (I believe???) at the last second for a 7 yd gain, on a play that could've easily resulted in an illegal forward pass or fumble, because it was that close.

I think that play, more than anything, is what led to Heck having such a short leash today, at least based on Kirk's reaction..........

Kirk said on Tuesday that MLB players get 162 opportunities each year and that if college football players can't get up for 12 opportunities a year then shame on them.

Little did we know how badly the players would not be getting up for this rivalry game.

We know we have good coaches.

The players had their heads up their arses.
There were some poor performances and bone-headed plays. Too many as it turned out, against a not that great Minnesota team.

I said before the game that Iowa had the better team and I still believe that. You would never believe it watching yesterday though.

As I said above, the Wake Forest coach wanted Heck out of the portal.

And we now have a QB coach, which is supposed to allow Lester to focus more on the overall offense.

That QB coach needs to have his 2 QBs ready to go.

I didn't, it went against Brown because he threw it, but it was a good pass, but Brown gets the bad mark on his record.

It's amazing we never went and got another Banks. Best offense in my lifetime and Kirk hasn't been able to replicate it since. Maybe 09 with Stanzi but still wasn't the same

Best OL we've had in Kirks tenure. See the connection.......
