Best coach we’ve ever had?

Say hello Frank Burns
You need to go look at the schedule that Frank Burns played back then. I was there. Colgate, Bucknell, and Princeton are no longer the big rivalries for Rutgers football. It's a different world now.
Schiano is clearly the best head football coach Rutgers has had since it went "Big Time". But that's more an indictment of the laughable way RU went Big Time. Where's our Mark Cuban ?

You think our NIL is averaging $200k/player on our roster? No chance.

Is this serious?

Between Rutgers Atheltics Revenue Share and outside NIL, the Total Roster Cost is at minimum $20m
Rutgers Revenue share alone is approx $15-16m (out of a total approx $21m Revenue share allowance).

Even the biggest proponents of "we don't have enough money" agree on that point.

Rutgers' books are public. If we're spending $16 million on player salaries, there's a line item somewhere. I'll believe it when I see it. There aren't four players on the whole team worth more than $200k/year.

Remember when Burns went up against Florida or was it Bama? There is no universe where Burns isn’t a better coach than Schiano.

Burns played in a 23K stadium, no support, no anything.

I don’t know if Schiano is better than Graber or Anderson. They had no support at all and not a long leash.

We just don’t know

Schiano certainly better than Shea, Flood and Ash though

NIL deals are not public. It’s personal comp. The only way you will know about those is if the player or the NIl company makes it public, which they wouldn’t. At least not at any scale.

Graber was a decent coach. He had no money for assistant coaches and his staff was dogshit as a result.
When I look at HCs that people say were good but never recived the support they needed to win, I always wonder why College ADs didn't see the same coaching abilities if they never landed another College HC position .

At least Schiano did make the pros, but besides that failed attempt, no one else College or Pro (but Rutgers ) thought he had HC Chops after Greg was run out of Tampa .

I believe that. I do not believe the remainder of the spending equates to $17 million.
What YOU - an anonymous message for poster - “believe” doesn’t mean a thing. As a matter of fact, you sound exactly like.RutgersAl when you make massive assumptions like that, based on your own opinion.

The revenue share number is the amount of money we receive from the BigTen. Do you have evidence it is being spent, in full, on NIL?
It’s being spent in full because of you enter into the rev share agreement which we did, you are required to spend it on athletes. For football that number is $16-$17MM. The remaining $4MM-$5MM is going to other sports (mostly basketball teams) along with some NIL. The additional ~$8MM for football is via NIL getting the roster spend to roughly $23MM. My proof? Direct conversations.

Bro….. you sound like a 12 year-..how about:

1) Greg hires ANOTHER loser buddy of his as DC

2) Greg removes DC BUT does nothing during the regular season to prepare to hire someone immediately following the final game.

3) it takes greg 2 1/2 months to hire someone because almost nobody wants to work for the man anymore

4) portal recruitment on defense during that period is virtually nonexistent

5) we overpay for a bunch of scrubs

6) defensive player development continues to slide

…..yet YOU want to blame it on Zinn and claim she didn’t raise any money when everyone on Earth knows that is the opposite GET LOST LOL!!!

Here you go. They are spending the full allowable revenue share amount.

Direct response from the University to the NJ Legislature.
Page 2:

Vice-Chair Park:
• What amount did Rutgers pay out to student athletes for Name, Image, and Likeness last
year?

Rutgers Response:
None. For background, in addition to scholarships, there are two distinct payment streams for college student-athletes: Revenue Share and Name, Image, and Likeness (“NIL”).

The House v. NCAA settlement, originally reached in 2024 and approved in June
2025, established Revenue Share, allowing participating institutions to pay student-athletes directly up to 22% of the average revenue generated across the ACC, Big Ten, Big 12, Pac-12, and SEC from media rights, ticket sales, and sponsorships. The cap for the 2025-26 academic year is $20.5 million per school. Generally, the cap will
increase 4% the next two years and will be re-evaluated every three years during the 10-year settlement period. In FY26, Rutgers, like every other Power Four school, committed to paying $20.5 million in Revenue Share to its student-athletes.

Don't bother wasting time.
Even Al acknowledges we are spending the full revenue share amount.

I provided President Tate's actual documentation of $20m in revenue share to the NJ Legislature.

1) Al denied while we were spending until about a week ago

2) but he still inflates other teams numbers from what is being reported nationally just so that they look like they’re out spending gas

I believe you were told whatever you were told by whoever told it to you. I do not believe they were being truthful. I believe they are using the "$20 million in revenue sharing going to players" phrase as a donor-recruitment tool and that the money is not being spent on NIL (and instead, on things like reimbursing the school for scholarships it was already funding).

And what percentage of that is allocated to scholarships?

0.0%
Scholarships are entirely separate from Revenue Share.
Revenue Share is direct payments to athletes.

From the CSC (the entity in charge of monitoring):
Participating institutions across the country can share revenue directly with student-athletes. Student-athletes can receive this direct payment in addition to their athletic scholarships, third-party NIL earnings and other previously permitted benefits.

The "Rex Ryan for HC" was an amusing joke.
This feigned ignorance is less so.

Because the players would be more talented.
Rutgers fully funded the revenue share like all other B1G schools and Zinn raised the most NIL money that Greg has ever had available to him. The real number is more like $23-24 million.

Actual money spent has no correlation to talent. Greg and his two GMs made many mistakes on how they allocated the money as well as slow playing the DC hire cost them dearly with defensive players in the portal and their evaluations on the guys they brought in were off.

I believe you have very little understanding of what is going on in any capacity. Most people in that situation talk less and listen more. Just a word of advice.

It was Bama. I went hoping we wouldn’t get blown out and left pissed that we didn’t win. He also beat Tennessee at their homecoming in the “what’s a Rutgers” game. All the support he ever got amounted to the athletic department springing for a new projector. Given what Schiano has I have no doubt he would have been more successful.

Zero. Scholarships are operating costs. No offense but you know too little to be such a contrarian.
Really? Because Minnesota has apparently already admitted to using at least a portion of their 20.5 million commitment on new scholarships ...

And the wiggle-room language Oregon is using suggests the same thing. Do I believe it is likely Rutgers is doing something similar? Yes. Do I think they are spending all of the 16 million allocated to football on football scholarships? No. Do I believe they are spending all of the 16 million allocated to football on direct NIL player payments? Also no.

This is no secret gotcha moment. It was discussed prior. There are no “scholarship” limits. There are roster limits going forward. No more “walk ons”. So some schools became more creative with the way they accounted for the increase. Some pay the scholarship with no rev share/NIL. Some like Minnesota are paying “rev share/NIL” to someone that would have been a walk on prior. And then asking the athlete that receives the “rev share/NIL” to repay the “scholarship”.

I'm not saying it's a secret gotcha. I'm saying it was an aspect of the settlement that most fans don't know exists. And I'm saying that there is evidence that schools in the Big Ten are using their revenue share (at least partially) in that fashion. Just because Rutgers says $16 million is going to players doesn't mean all $16 million is being provided to players in the form of direct NIL payments. The fact that our talent level is dogshit and our school is historically cheap when it comes to athletics spending suggests to me that the full $16 million is not going to NIL payments.
