No school discloses its exact NIL money.

Both Greg and Zinn agreed it was 4X what it was last year. Greg was even quoted he was given plenty to compete.

Hard to raise corporate money when the coach and team is that awful. This season probably has costs us current and future donors.

It's referred to as NIL because if it wasn't, then there would be no legitimate argument that the players (who are receiving direct compensation payments by the school in return for participating in athletics - in this instance, football) are not employees. And if they are employees, then a whole new set of responsibilities and burdens falls on the schools that they don't want. It's not being referred to as "NIL" because the media is lazy (as you suggested).
