I remember exactly where I was and what I was doing 72 years ago today: I was on my GF's front porch on a sunny warm day with my Dad listening to the radio & him being giddy about the NL NY Giants beating heavily-favored,111 wins (of 154 game season) AL Cleveland Indians for the 4th straight time to sweep the World Series. It's first thing I remember of events outside my personnel life. I was six. Since Dad wasn't working, had to be a weekend day & more likely a Saturday as he would have still been umpiring local semi-pro baseball games on Sundays. Their seasons ran till late Oct. & even into early Nov. a couple of times.

Now year older DW remembers being all upset about the 1952 political conventions being on TV & ruining her watching her kids TV programming. Her Dad would be described as a techie today & they had a TV early on.

Have a nice day.

Hello All,

Been sitting at my computer since about 10. Getting up to vacuum mine and My Darlings bedroom. The things I just completed may well go to allowing me to be nearly retired. Still have two doctor appointments next week and two sit-downs with some, shall we say,... Klingers on (And I spelled that correctly from Max days of MASH.) These guys kind of act like him in certain ways. I called one of them Klinger once...

Anyway, enjoy what's left of your afternoon(s)... take'em and cherish them...

I am thankful!!!

Hello All,

Dang,

Others are busy too.......... ;)

I do hope all is well, been raining hard here. The BB has a soccer game today. Not sure 7 and 8 year olds should be going in this rain but we shall see.... (I used to but not soccer...)

Took My Darling to her women's group meeting earlier. I am actually filing paperwork hoping to not have to take it back out. (Just hope to trash it at some point... Later on...)

Take this day and do it proud.

Go CATS!!!

Morning D-legionnaires!

66° this morning with light winds and a high near 80° expected.

Great win for UK last night and, with a UL loss the weekend is feeling great. Now, a Bengals win would put icing on the cake. I have 2 co-ed softball games late this afternoon so, I will get to watch the Bengals game this week.

Hope the weekend is going well for all and God Bless.

Good morning folks. Great win for the Cats. FIrst road OT win against an SEC team in history. And Louisville being totally exposed is hilarious.

Having a great weekend so far. We're celebrating my B-Day which was midweek on the weekend -- a nice steak dinner with my wife last night at a favorite restaurant and my daughter and a few people coming over for cake today.

I hope you guys have a great day.

If you are not a baseball junky, this is probably to long an article for you. I was watching the Brewers and Padres and a couple of hitters were using a split grip, so I did some searches. I came up with this article from Driveline. Quite a few pros go to Driveline for lessons.

Sir,

I have my opinions about the pinky and split grip(s)... You have to be seriously strong to use the pinky grip and need a reason for it.

The split grip Ty Cobb used it at times but for again, specific reasons..

Mostly the reasons depended on who was pitching and their arm angles/ delivery tendencies....

That is some serious intricacies I have forgot.... Made me think back though, so thanks!

Hello All,

I have been around but cleaning mine and the BB's office. (He is talking to his Dad right now...)

My wife and I went to different services today. That happens irregularly but this was one of those days....

I just had a seriously good home made chili by My Darling but I sure added the crackers like the old days...

The BB has my phone right now but I will post a pic I took later...

Enjoy what's left of your evening(s)...

How you Gents doing? I'm counting down the days till my last time off of the year. Gonna do A LOT of stuff with my Wife. Got a Bardstown Dinner Train planned in two weeks on our Anniversary. Will be married 26 years. Gonna hit Peabody WMA that week as I need to get the boat out. She'll be checking out the Ospreys and Eagle nests while I do my best to fill the freezer.

How about them Wildcats!!! We have ourselves a Coach. Best time of the year. Football season then roll right into the roundball.

Stay classy, Gentleman. Get out of that comfort zone we ALL fall prey to and be a blessing to those you know and don't know. God Bless you fellas.

I check in now and then. I'm really introverted bad about communicating.

Came back down 369 days ago now, was heading back north last month but caregiver duties have me bound in KY for another 3 weeks at least. And that's OK.

Pics from morning I left last year (except collage). It's wild and I miss it. I camped here for 25 days before heading south. I caught the biggest smallmouth (ca. 24 inches, no weight) I ever hooked here when I was 12, lived about 6 miles away. Many good memories with my departed father here. One of my favorite places to be in the world.

Looks beautiful Brother. He makes it that way. Fortunately my Dad is still alive but in rough shape. We never did anything outdoors when my Sis and I were kids. "I got all my camping in Nam" he'd say so I had to learn all my outdoor skills on my own. Lot's of trial and error but I got it down eventually. I passed a lot of what I learned down to my Daughter and she was a heck of a Girl Scout when she was young. She's 25 now and probably forgot most of it, lol.

The older I get, the more introverted I've become. The way of this present world just isn't for me. I look at all these people around me and shake my head. And it's not just the young folk. It's A LOT of people my age and older. They've fallen into the trap of keeping up and have lost their way. I don't fit in with a lot of people but that's fine by me. I have a good core of 4 buddies I grew up with and we're all like minded for the most part and we talk and see each other often.

A lot of work friends I'll hang out with on occasion but I'm not trying to act like I'm in my 20's and haven't for a long time. There's a lot of mid- life crisis' going on but guess what? You're still aging inside. I don't put on fronts. What you see is what you get. Glad I've been blessed with a discerning Spirit. I see a lot of BS that a lot of people can't/refuse to see. We aren't long for this world I'm afraid. People are different anymore.

Hello all,

Just finished my medical appointment…

I hope your day(s) are fruitful. (Eat an apple to be sure…) ;)

That chili is mostly from My Darlings garden except the cow… even the chili peppers are slightly spicy…. Just good! I crumbled up a good handful of crackers in it too…. As Uncle Jed used to say…. “Edible”…

I think we have a similar outlook on life. I like being a simple man and living a simple life. If I could do anything over I would have went to Alaska as a young man and stayed there. Richard Proenneke did it at 51 so maybe still doable. I remember you had a photo of him for your avatar on the old RR.

I'm happy your dad is still alive. Mine was also a Vietnam vet, he spent the first part of the war in the belly of an EC-121 and the last of it on the DMZ at Dong Ha. Changed him for sure, he never owned a firearm after that.

Happy birthday 55, sorry I missed it, been working really hard with my Stained-glass, getting ready for a big show next month.
Good mornong folks. And thanks for the birthday wishes. The belated party yesterday went well, and we all had a nice time. Great to see my daughter, still very bubbly over her recent engagement.

Another Monday, and back to work.A busy day looms. I hope it is a good one for all of you.

Thanks Cord. Good luck with your stained glass show. Many, many years ago in my single days I dated a woman who did that kind of work and I was then, and remain impressed by the craft and artistry involved.

A beautiful day in the east. It'd be a good one to wander the woods looking at the beginning of the autumnal change. Instead, another work day for me. Trying to keep my concentration up. Hope it is a good day for all of you.

Hello All,

Made my three month trip to the DC VA this morning. Started a post then but never finished it. Geez my normal about 55 minute drive 25 miles was about 2 hours and three minutes... Yeah DC traffic...

Dropped a pint of blood in the oncology department (I have hemochromotosis. Not a cancer. At least I know of none I have.) That department is the easiest for them to treat me so...

The only treatment is to drop a pint of blood every so often. My time frame has been three months since about 2005. (When I found out I had this.) (I do once a year or so drop a pint every two weeks for two or three trips to keep th ferritin levels in check.) Sure makes me feel better once I drop a pint. needles don't bug me so...

My brother has the same thing it is an inherited disease. (Comes from German/Irish decent and both your parents must be of that decent so again... Mine were.)

I feel better and have NO I repeat NO appointments for a good long while. I am SO very thankful BUT, off to work around the house I go....

Have a blessed day and hug a family member... If no one near give out a free hug as long as they don't belt you... ;)

Edit: I start my oldest daughter’s RO system install tomorrow (If the Lord doesn’t take me home.) I want to think hers will be easier but I will wait until finished to judge…

Morning, gents. Staring at a bit of a warm spell for now. This Kentucky weather is nuts and always has been. This State's favorite movie has got to be Forrest Gump!

I have one more night of work then it's off for a bit. While I'm looking forward to time with the Mrs, I'm thinking of planning a solo camp out. It's something I've never done before but always wanted to do. Speaking of camping, I'm on the hunt for a hot tent. I have 3 tents but not one set up for a wood burning stove. Been looking at the Kodiak canvas 10x10 for my January winter overnighter but not sure if I wanna splurge or not. Any experience with such a setup on here? Pros and Cons.

I'm going to add a trout stamp to my regular license soon and try to catch some rainbows at the various FiNS Lakes here in the area. Missed the boat last year but year before I did pretty good on some roostertails in various colors. Trout is good eating. I'd like to try to smoke some this Fall.

I miss the outdoors. I've been really busy lately and my foot has kept me from hiking for a few years now but I have no excuse for not wetting a line more often. Used to be a BIG TIME creek wader ( hence my username. The BC is for Bullitt County). I'm going after trout from the bank and panfish from the Pelican this Fall.

Seems we have an infiltrator troll in here now. It's not good anywhere but they've now seemed to push into the last bastion of goodness on this whole board. Hopefully those turds get flushed with the quickness. This is a good group and while I don't post every day, I truly enjoy reading and interacting on this thread.

Sorry for the long winded post. I drank too much coffee at work last night so I'm WIDE awake at the moment. Have a great day guys!

Good morning folks. Busy day. The weather has been beautiful in the east. This is my favorite time of year, and it is aggravating to be stuck inside basically from sun-up to sundown. Ah well. The weekend is ahead, if that Caribbean storm doesn't rain on us in the east.

Nothing much else going on. One last sincere thanks for those who wished me a happy birthday. You all have a great day.

I spent so much time in Bullitt county. In the bug business. Just stayed out there. I lived in Hardin county but the bulk of my business was done in Bullitt County. Met so many nice people. Had the keys to so many ponds. (Cat's and Bass/ Bluegill.) I caught my share when I was able to take time which was not a lot but I did keep my pole's in my truck and van but My Darling cleaned them up and gave many away as she and I like salt water fish better but we did eat our share too. Good eating.

Cox's Creek, LJ, Shep-town, MW, Maryville a lot too. Bernheim Forrest. I did a lot for them as well but I started there with Orkin but absorbed some of the work. Just have good good memories working for and with a lot of builders, Business owner's, home owners. I made a decent living being fare. I wanted to get rich but not off one person was my thinking. Worked tons of hours...

Hello All,

Heading to my oldest's here in a few minutes to start on her water system. (She is a graduate of North Hardin High.) My son graduated from John Hardin High. My youngest started and graduated from Tom Clark High in San Antonio... My my....

Take care all... Enjoy this day...

HA,

All would have been easier and I got all the plumbing parts installed and completed but the drain saddle again did not fit the drain line. Am waiting for that part Monday to finish but got another "Daddy do list"... She starts it; "Dad can I borrow this tool from you..." She KNOWS I do not loan her anything as she would tear it up if she didn't buy it. Wellllll... In my Best Rooster Cogburn voice...

I'd say another couple hours to finish... Monday, monday...

OH too............ My son in Florida needs me too in December. (For a darn WEEK.) (My Darling cannot go due to church Cantata commitments... My Darling wants me to fly, I do not like flying... Just did too much for too long. I want to drive and get a hotel room if needed...

My Darling told me not to drive due to snow but I am going to wait a couple days and get it fixed....

Another day in the life of a blessed man..............

My sincere hope is, you enjoy your family too... I do nothing but be available...
