Whether they had 2's in or not, OSU was not pressing on any short passes. Anything up to 10 yards were gimmes. Heck did make some crisp passes and had a quick release, but not sure how he would have done in quarters 1-3. vs. an aggressive D. Iowa had their starters in the game at the end of the 1st half, and went to a somewhat prevent defense. It made it easy for OSU to move the ball, just in the same way Heck got some easy looks in the 4th quarter.
Really. So they just kinda.. laid off a bit.

After Texas?

Really?

No. Nice try. But no.

For OSU playing back ups and moving to zone? Doubtful.
Both starting corners and the FS played that entire series. The rest of the D was a mix of starters and twos. Kenyatta was out because he got dinged earlier. The D line was still shoving the O line into the backfield. They played a mix of zone and man that series.
Did you ever play football?

Beyond long term discussion. If you have qb2 with similar capabilities, one game before a bye, it makes sense to give him a shot to ensure Hank fully heals. But Hank definitely has some different strengths that are valuable when first read isn’t there or oline is struggling.

Whoa, there. What shut down Iowa's pass game under Brown was Brown missing WIDE OPEN receivers. Brown was awful. His timing was terrible, his throws were wobbly, and he was sacked because his decision-making was slow and poor. Any other questions? LOL
Pretty funny they had to review a pass for deflection because of how his spiral was looking. Maybe the injury was there during practice and just got worst on sack?

Can we all agree we have 2 very average QBs? Some qualities differentiate each other, but both are not true 1st string P4 quality. They would be good backups and are a big improvement of what we have had the last several years (minus MG)

So what do you do going forward? If you truly think Sullivan or Bessinger have the higher upside....you need to play them next year. It doesn't make sense to string Hank and Heck a long another 1 or 2 years.

Looking into the future ....Now in 3 years...you will have the same situation where you are breaking in a new QB (Bessinger for example) and start all over. Yes he will be in the system but no game time reps.

Unless you think Hank or Heck has this huge upside potential going forward...I say you just play for the future next year. Or hell get a transfer then like MG.

Continuing to have average QB the next 2 years with these guys just sounds so damn deflating

Thoughts?

So I was right that they played zone and had back ups in. Thanks for confirming!

I re-watched Hank's first 2 drives and Jeremy's only drive.

Going by the depth chart I found they both faced the 1s and 2s with the exception of JH faced number 10, 20 and 53.

In addition, JH had 6 passing plays. OSU rushed 3 on 5 plays and 4 on another.

In contrast OSU sent 5 on the fumble play with a 6th guarding the RB.

So that would be no, you have never played a down of football and you are regurgitating what a blogger posted. You wouldn't know the difference between zone and man.

Yeah, that's the problem with most football fans.

So many of them never played the game

No. You play to win now. We're a one loss team. With whomever you think gives you the best shot.

What the hell is true P4 quality? You're saying all the other P4 teams have P4 quality QBs except us? Hank's body of work was OK before OSU. Took a step back that game -- still, great opponent and one game. The story is still unfolding.

If Hank can play, KF will start him. It is just who he is. In his mind we would have lost the game with either QB. At this point whoever is taking snaps, Kirk, Joe, etc better figure out how we run the ball. Our oline is not up to the task right now. I know we normally improve as the season goes along but it’s a problem right now and I would much rather see someone under center that is willing to take off and run and/or thread the needle on some throws.
It was Ohio State and they are one quarter worth of brain farts away from being #1 again so I’m not overly disappointed but our offense isn’t in a groove right now and it needs to get that way in a hurry. Need to beat Washington for the resume. Taking 2 of 3 in this stretch would be pretty good…..but….starts with fixing oline issues.

Source of the blogger? I'll be waiting. But again, I appreciate you confirming my prior statements.

I'll sleep well knowing there's a bunch of you yelling Heck's name over and over again all while we know Kirk won't make the switch based on a single game performance against Ohio State and one drive from Heck in a game that had been decided a quarter prior. The only way a switch is made is if Brown is injured or if he has a collapse against Washington, where making the switch after the bye week would make more sense.

Kirk and Lester really messed up this season by not having a real B1G QB on the roster. Bessinger will be the starter next year and neither Hank or Heck are B1G caliber guys.

Well maybe if OSU was playing pass defense like in the first half when the game was close then the hawk receivers would NOT be "OPEN". OSU had a 25 pt lead when HEck came in iirc. we all know what a prevent defense means. zone, umbrella coverage, tackle them before the sticks if possible,

Right, but they were open and Heck was able to accurately throw it to them

Not calling for anyone. I expect Brown to be starting if healthy. He had a crap game yesterday. Hopefully, it was an anomaly. And you know jack **** about anything.

I agree 100% about playing whomever gives you the best chance to win now. That's why it is Hank or Heck.

But to your 2nd point..Hank is at best an average QB in the Big. Especially when he has gone up against the 3 decent teams we have played. If you don't think that....then there's really no reason to talk about this anyway. We just won't agree.

But I'm saying for next year. If you think one of those younger guys has the ability to pass hank/hecks ceiling....why would you wait even another year or 2 to play him? You just keep passing the torch

So you play Hank this year...next year...and then Heck the year after (if he doesn't transfer)...and then finally get to a guy that people are high on (assuming he's legit of course)

If Hank is the best we can do...then ok. We can just look forward to missing open WRs for 2Qs. And hope he has a few good series a game. Bc that's what it's been

I'm hoping he can piece it all together more consistently bc that's all we can do right now anyway

I hate these topics, but... Heck was throwing against a soft coverage. The game was over at that point.

You don't wait. I think Bessinger could be ready after a year in the program. I could see him starting next year possibly.

Brown an average big ten QB? Could be. OSU and Michigan are a heck of a way to kick things off. He has a pro type arm. Mobility is actually better than I thought. Touch seems ok, nothing to write home about. I didn't think he was missing open WRs much until the OSU game. Accuracy was pretty solid.

My biggest concern about him was processing quickly and being too risky adverse. Granted... The problem is that you don't know exactly what the OC is calling and what his decision making process is, thusly.
