Think about this!

Whichever team wins the south division today - will be the 1st team in nfl history to win their division (twice) with a losing record.

What a category to be in.

DiscoVinny said... (original post) What is going on? Is it gambling? Is it lack of off-season training? What is it?
This post reminded me of a documentary I watched on Netflix (iirc) recently about Tim Donaghy… Some very interesting stuff there about how he would go into games knowing he and his crew would be targeting certain players and teams. Really infuriating stuff, especially as a fan of UNC football who is convinced this **** has happened towards us time and again.

And yeah, it definitely looked like something was going on yesterday. The annoying thing is that this stuff pops up in multiple sports and the same teams/markets seem to get the benefit in all of them. Don’t start me on hockey.

Damn. Playoff bound. Perhaps the most unworthy team ever, but as we often hear on the golf course, they don’t draw pictures on the scorecard.

All teams in the NFC South finished 3-3.
Three teams finished tied for 1st, with a 8-9 losing record.
The Panthers just became the 1st team to win their division with a losing record TWICE.

So a home playoff game in Charlotte next weekend against either the Rams or 49ers. Anything can happen.

I’d rather play the 49ers, just so McCaffrey can comeback and play here again.
But, I believe it will be the Rams, because I don’t see them losing the the Cardinals this afternoon…

I gave the 10 points and put $20 on rams-- will be happy to lose it if the panthers win- but if they keep it under 10 i will be pissed.

Not the kind of start the Panthers could afford. Going for it on fourth wasn’t a good decision, IMO.

Given how the 1st Quarter and initial half of the second quarter went…Panthers showed some real heart

Young stinks. SSDD 🤷‍♂️
Yesterday's loss wasn't on Young. He was the least of our problems. Injuries have killed the OL, and the backups aren't good enough. It's a line of scrimmage game, and our OL is the worst in the league right now.

He had plenty of time on multiple throws that didn't even reach his receivers' feet. Alternatively, sailing balls through the end zone into the stands.

They cannot extend him and expect to contend in a soft as Charmin NFC South.

True. It's also true that Young sucks.

He's got the velocity of an 8th grader and isn't accurate enough to compensate for it. We're in Year 4 and you have a poor man's Chad Pennington. Considering the compensation given up to acquire him, it's one of the worst draft picks in the history of the NFL. He has zero physical attributes to be an NFL QB, and that's just as true today as it was four years ago when they were scouting him. He's tiny, has a weak arm, isn't accurate, and can't scramble. His ceiling was always middle-of-the-pack NFL QB who you can't win a Super Bowl with.

Maybe. I don't love that he's so small, but statistically, he was one of the best QBs in the league so far this season until the game this past weekend when he was running for his life.

It's not going to matter though. The team is such a MASH unit right now. They have so many key injuries. It sucks so much.

He's played 49 games in the NFL. A two-game subset of that is indicative of absolutely nothing.

Injuries are real and unfortunate, but you can't use that as an excuse to bring BY back next year unless it's on a backup QB's contract. Also stinks that there aren't going to be any decent QB prospects available to draft where the Panthers end up drafting. Titans and Dolphins are so bad they'll have Dante Moore and Arch Manning locked up. I could probably be talked into Mestemaker in the Top 10. Love his arm and natural throwing ability.

Good point. Even if things have finally clicked for Bryce, we probably won't get to see it this year because the Panthers are so dang injured that they're likely going to be terrible this year. The PTB with the Panthers are going to have to decide whether to extend him without having a real year to base it on this year. I agree with you that based on past performance, he should not get another extension. An elite QB would have won the game against the Browns this past weekend despite all the injuries.
