Recently several investors have presented several very beat up 4000 sq ft mult-family structures that they could buy for $150,000 -- $175,000 and fix for under $200,000. Depending on the configuration of the bldgs they could rent typically for $1,000 a month for 4 units. Myself and another lender will provide the money. Basically 4 families will live in what will be nice buildings for less than it costs to build a toilet in Calif. You might be insensitive to the cost and waste in California because you are a member of a privileged class as a professor and other professors and graduates of the UC system benefit by being hired to write up useless multiple reports (for instance environmental reports) as a precondition to build a toilet or restroom building as you call it. (According to chat gpt building was 50 sq ft when completed. $12,500 per sq ft. as I analyze it. $4167 per sq ft as you analyze it.

You got a one-time charity contribution which can't be expected in the future and the $625,000 is a real reflection of what it costs to build a 50 ft restroom in San francisco. As far as I know, San Francisco hasn't repealed the onerous and expensive regulations that require $625,000 of materials and effort to build a 50 ft square toilet building.

Nope, not at all. Although, to use your own wording, I can see how simpletons might think that. First of all, I'm not a leftie... I'm a moderate, a centrist. So everyone hates me for sure. I don't like a lot of the right wing policies and I don't like a lot of the left's either. As a general rule, I look at each piece of legislation and action in an of itself and think, is this a good idea? Then I support it based on merit, not whether the idea has an R or a D by it.
And again, if you read my previous posts here. I don't like Tucker at all... I admit it tickles me that he's anti Trump now and the MAGA folks are all pissed at him. To clerify, I don't think Trump supporters support everything he does. I think that Trump supporters support him NO MATTER WHAT HE DOES. There's a BIG difference between those two things. Vance opposed the Iran War, and is not intentionally provocative or insulting. DeSantis is a great administrator who has kept taxes down in Florida and is strategic and who very substantially wounded dei in florida. I supported DeSantis over Trump in the primaries and I very strongly oppose the Iran War. If I could have found a way to keep myself off of the political texting messaging lists I would have contributed to Thomas Massey's campaign in kentucky.
There are lots of people who support Trump no matter what. There are a lot of others who hold their nose and support him because the other side is worse. I am mostly in the second camp.

I do not know what is typical for the construction of toilets in San Francisco. This story and the one about the futuristic toilet in the Embarcadero are literally the only stories about toilets in San Francisco that I have ever read. Honestly, constructing public toilets in San Francisco is just not all that relevant to my life or interests. As I noted previously, I think that the fixation on this particular toilet is odd.
Where you and I are passing ships in the night is that this is illustrative of the incredible unthinking waste and bureaucracy in california. Your Governor thinks he is qualified to be president of the United States and I think his record and the record of what occurs in California should be an issue. You apparently are not concerned with environmental statements and community review for something as simple as a toilet. I would imagine a lot of people disagree with your position and it is important that people know how inefficient and wasteful things are in California.

You are correct: I am not concerned with the city of San Francisco having environmental statements and community review for buildings in public parks. I do not have a position on the construction of public toilets in San Francisco, other than generally supporting the city in doing so. I would be surprised to learn that a lot of people disagree with me on that. In fact, I can not recall having a single additional conversation with any people living in San Francisco or anywhere in California, much less any other state, in the U.S. about the construction of this restroom.
it's funny...if you're using federal funds on a project that is located in a public park, you'd also (likely) have to do an environmental review and have it go through an additional agency review...it happens in my work all the time.
That might be a lot for a couple of single-seaters but for a full building capable of serving multiple people... not so much.
edit: that's a lot for a single seater. But it's SF.
