By %, your tax cut should have been more than mine. Doubled the standard deduction and the child tax credit. Lowered rates up and down the brackets. SALT cap significantly penalized taxpayers like me as an offset to lower bracket rates.

As I’ve said, go after the billionaires if you want. But that’s not what any of the proposals have done. Income tax increases on families making $400k. SS tax increases on people making $185k. These aren’t billionaires or anywhere close to it.

I’ve even suggested adding an additional 40% tax bracket at $5/$10 million in income. Then you guys can stop bitching that the top rate was cut for the billionaires.

The tariffs were a cluster **** along with a lot of what this administration has done.
For the first round of tax cuts, the vast majority of people benefited from it. But there definitely were some that didn't see the benefit that would be considered the middle class. You are correct that the standard deduction was doubled and rates were cut. But personal exemptions were cut. So, if a married couple has 3 kids, the total personal exemption was $20,250 in 2017. In 2018, that was reduced to $0. That was a big hit to certain families as doubling the standard deduction wasn't enough to cover the personal exemption that they lost. Especially since they capped the SALT to $10,000.

Again, the VAST majority of people benefited from the first round of tax cuts. But some definitely got dinged as I saw it first hand while preparing their taxes.

Biggest criticism of trump 1.0 is the same criticism for trump 2.0. We are spending WAY too much money that we do not have.

I will note that trump has slashed areas of government spending and the left cried about each and every one of the things that was slashed, regardless of how obviously worthless it was to our country. Congress should codify doge cuts, but congress is also entitely worthless and doesn't actually do anything but rubber stamp bloated spending bills and commit insider trading.

Are dems still pushing for complete student loan forgiveness, healthcare for all and welfare for non-citizens? Those policies will triple our national debt in 4 years.
Even if that truly tripled our debt (here's a tip, it wouldn't) - we'd get something out of it.

What are we getting out of this debt ramp up? Not a Gotdamn thing, that's what.

We elected a fraud and are shocked he's bilking us for all we got - shocked, shocked I tell ya!

Fükkin idiots, the lot of ya.

I’ll just leave this here, all you have to do is read the first comment. The dude can’t stop commenting on all my posts. He took it a step farther and created a handle to do the same thing to himself, then blames it on me so he can win over the crowd. The levels of mental health issues fascinates me, just as long as he doesn’t figure out who I am as I wouldn’t feel safe anymore with how crazy he has become.
well, not to interject myself here, but you two really should knock off this back and forth. This thread is about fiscal conservatism and not about lunchbox and Gibbs.. May each of you should consider putting the other on ignore

just one person's opinion

Your abject stupidity is simply unfathomable
might you explain your reasoning why fatpiggy is so stupid? It sure seems to me that democrats tried to end DOGE (not that I think it was effective) and I haven't seen any programs they want to end, plus any new income they would get from a billionaires tax seems already seems destined for new spending.

Not that I think republicans have been any better on the deficit or debt front

Do what? Republicans hold the House, Senate, Executive branch and the Supreme Court but DOGE was a victim of the Dems?

Oh I’ve ignored him plenty of times. He just can’t help himself. He took it a step farther and created a handle to follow himself around because he wasn’t getting the attention he craves. I find it hilarious.

That's not even close to what I said. Are you taking a position that democrats supported DOGE? That would be an interesting post....

And are you taking a position that democrats want to end programs...other that the dep of defense - which they try to cut with or without DOGE...or that folks like Elizabeth Warren haven't already identified new or expanded programs where to spend any tax revenues from "Tax the Billionaires"

Or are you just trying to be argumentative?

Who controls all branches of govt currently and has for most of the last 10 years?

I haven't seen a truly fiscally conservative Republican in my 55 years.

But, by all means keep supporting a world renowned grifter, huckster, carnival barker, born on third base and thinks he hit a triple moron, and his enablers - I'm sure it will all work out swimmingly.

I can show you the evidence I can't make you understand it.

None of that disputes the fact that Democrats, and a few Republicans, lit their hair on fire when you tried to take their social programs away.

There was no appetite for DOGE. Especially none from Democrats.

remember when they just had to vote for the traitor who tried to overthrow the govt because we couldn’t keep going down this path of govt spending?

There is no such thing as a Fiscal Conservative. I’ve been saying this on these forums (Miserychant, HROT, HORT, HROT and now HPOT) for 20 years.

My guess is this is just something you say to attempt to rationalize your desire to spend, spend, spend, when said desire bumps up against someone saying, perhaps, we shouldn't just attempt to spend our way out of problems.

It's your version of whataboutism.

Objections to DOGE can include a complete lack of effectiveness, a complete self-servicing nature, and the desire to NOT have a non-governmental person all up in our personal business, extracting data for his own personal exploitation (the latter part related to the second point), among other reasons that have NOTHING to do with whether or not you're a fiscal conservative or not, or in favor of governmental spending reforms.

So, the presumption that people didn't like DOGE because they weren't fiscal conservatives and didn't want their piece of the fraud pie taken away is monumentally stupid to rational people.

What percentage of the annual budget did DOGE cut or propose to cut? Freaking miniscule.

It was a classic case of distraction (the one and only thing this admin excels in) and of pointing out the speck in someone else's eye while ya got a 2x4 in yours.

It is comically infuriating at this point to see anyone support this clown show.

Gas prices alone show the utter hypocrisy of Trump supporters.

The fact you're not out there putting Trump "I did that" stickers on every gas pump in your region tells me your priorities are BS and your soul is sold to the highest bidder.

You sold out your country to "stick it to the libs".... congratulations

oh, I understand it completely..I had to put together federal budgets back in my working days...and I certainly am not defending either trump or the Republican Congress on budgets. I'm older, I saw plenty of fiscal conservatives...were you not paying attention during the "contract with America" back in the '90s or the Republican house and Senate which worked with the Clinton WH to balance the budget in 2000? But, I'm not trying to contradict, you slightly exaggerated but your point is right on. And you're 100% right control of the government over the past 10 years has been mainly Republican and they have not stepped up in fiscal conservatism.

I'll also say that grifters, hucksters, carnival barkers, and even those born on third base have the capability to balance budgets, heck you can even add in sexual abuses to your list. None of those attributes limits that person.

But you don't go far enough in your post. When was the last time you saw a fiscally conservative Congress, either party. We've have been on a spending spree since 2001 starting with Bush all the way up to trump2. So we can weep and gnash, but what do we do about it? Republicans seem to want to :"lower our taxes" out of this. That's nonsensical on it's face, plus it's been tried and failed. Democrats seem to want to spend our way out of it - not that republicans aren't doing the same thing - and that's not going to work either. So for me, the solution lies somewhat into the middle...we need to increase taxes and I personally don't care if it's on people making over $1million (or pick any number) or more, or tax billionaires (although I think wealth taxes might create more problems), and we need to cut spending...yes DoD but also on social programs. If we're concerned about $2 trillion deficits every year we can't add more spending....

So when I read posts that put the blame on Republicans or on democrats solely, I think that's as nonsensical as "lower our taxes" out of this disaster. And to pis* off everybody, any poster that continuously does that falls into the "lower our taxes" either head in the sand or nonsensical category.

Oh, and just to support my theory, both the gramm-rudman-hollings bill in the 1980s and the simpson-bowles studies during the Obama years, came to exactly the same conclusions.

Dude, gas is much cheaper under Trump. Those stickers with Joe went on the pump when gas was $4.75 a gallon. I think it's $3.50 at the corner now. Inflation lasted much longer under the Biden admin.

I want to stick it to the communists and socialist and to the retard that was Kamala. She was god awful and that's why she lost the electoral college, the popular vote, and all seven swing states. I'll never vote for a socialist or communist, those policies have failed everywhere they have ever been tried. They lead to **** societies.

DOGE tried to cut those social programs and everyone had a fit, especially Democrats.

don't tell me you've been standing at the sign since 2024...

now do 2022
One month in June 2022 caused by continuing supply chain challenges and Russia's invasion of Ukraine is not the correct measuring stick and you know it. It has to be measured from when Biden left office and Trump promised us he'd cut our energy bills in half by now, yet he's raised the price of gas by 41% by his own making. Do you really think it makes sense to be talking about 4 years ago?

Money that would actually go directly into the economy for home ownership, cars, food, etc, etc, etc.

I'm not for clearing all student loan debt, but I'm good with clearing it for any STEM type degree, nursing, trade school, teaching, etc.

You're still missing the point that this admin is pissing money away like it's water and we're getting NOTHING out of it.

The Niagara Falls of lies from Trump's mouth about what he was going to do for the economy, to stop mindless wars, etc, are simply ignored by people like you cuz "the other side lies too".

That excuse never cut it with me and it shouldn't with anyone else either.
