Still hard to believe we paid $6 million to take Pope off their hands. He should have paid the buyout if he was so gung ho about coming here lol.
Whatever this kid decides to do I like our group of guys. We got Milan and were trending upward. Anything else right now is icing and we’re likely not done, others will emerge. There’s a lot of offseason to go, bash away
I'm not saying he has convinced me he's the man for the job (and I didn't like the hire and have a hard time still understanding how we settled for a coach with his resume) but it's pretty remarkable that a coach who does NOTHING well managed to fall *** backward into a 3 seed and a sweet 16 in his first season here.
We would have been utter trash without him. Only reason Pope wasn’t canned sooner. I can’t take another 10 loss season this year. I’ll let Pope cook and try and stay out of it but too many damn losses and way too many beat downs.
Agree to disagree. The only player I remember us getting this late and that was legit was Murray but I realize times have changed. I think we need guard depth for sure.
Otega carried the program for two seasons stopping it from being a complete embarrassment. The Otega hate is unreal. Be mad at the player because he's the best player the coach has gotten? I say thanks Otega for it being 14 losses instead of 24
He was severely underrated in the portal as well. I believe he wasn’t even top 100.
Also Otega was fine year one. Pope went and signed a sissy heshe point guard ...signed a self centered Mo D. A me me me first self centered Aberdeen who really liked florida better all along. And then BBN wanted to act like Otega was the problem all season when he and his former team just beat how many top 15 teams the year before. Ok rant over.
His first year I agree. Nobody got better last year. Maybe Moreno.

And that's the smart play by UK, bc he's really not going to make much of an impact in year 1. And if you are UK you don't want to spend money and time developing him, just for him to transfer somewhere else for year 2.

I wrote a decent write up, but I'll keep it brief this time. This very young, very skinny kid isn't making a major impact in the '26-'27 season. He's a developmental piece with a very high upside.

Branham didn’t vet his sources enough. Turns out we’re just one of multiple schools reaching out. He removed his crystal ball and basically said this isn’t a Pope whiff, he just had bad info.
Is Pope really 20-16 in the SEC? Wow. I knew it was bad. Yeah, I need like a 5 loss total team this year and at least a final four to even contemplate a year 4 for him. And no, I don’t care what recruiting class he has locked up. I need to see a whole lot this year and I imagine the new AD does too. Nobody would fault him for wanting his own guy if we go 24-12 or whatever again. Those seasons break me as a fan. I’d rather we absolutely suck so it can’t be argued or be a juggernaut so it can’t be argued. Just my opinion.

These “insiders” don’t know anything. The sooner people realize that, the sooner maybe that cesspool of an industry will be destroyed. If anything, the only time to pay attention to them is right before commitment and than they all pick the same school. I hate how they can change the pick at the last minute and still get credit for it being right when they were saying different for a year.
