Recruiting takes another brutal hit

#2 player in the state, RB Tre Segarra has committed to none other than LSU and Lane Kiffin. The latter is merely insult to injury. Segarra is someone Beamer wanted, and needed, badly. This was a big miss. We offered him 18 months ago. LSU offered him this month.

When do we start sounding alarms about the incoming class?

It's time to sound the alarm now for the state of SC. According to this site, we lead for one guy at this point. Most seem to be going out of state.

Kiffin probably gave him the “If you go to SC you’ll end up pumping gas” routine that he fed to Alshon. The difference between him and Alshon is that he may have been stupid enough to believe it.

Obligatory responses:

He was never coming here

He was always going out of state

We didn't need him anyway

As true as this is, I dont even blink at recruiting anymore. Get the player, dont get the player, who cares. The portal killed any thought of a guy coming and staying.

If anything, portal recruiting is almost the inly thing worth paying attention to.

We are failing miserably.
Some may attempt to pass this off (your post #2), but this is a very alarming trend. For those who may attempt to pass this off with a myriad of excuses, I am going to just put this tidbit out there for reference.
Miami just signed 18 players for their 2027 class. All 18 have shut down their recruitments. Again for effect, All 18 have shut down their recruitment.

They've all signed? Like, on the dotted line?

This Segarra kid is still a couple of months from playing the first game of his senior year of high school, right? For the same reason I wouldn't get terribly excited about a "commitment" from him at this point, I'm not going to be despondent about his commitment to LSU. That is not to say I am particularly confident in Beamer's recruiting, but I just don't get excited about "commitments" from HS recruits any more. I don't see how anybody could.

Why does The Big Spur keep putting out that someone "flipped" from us when they never committed to us? BS in my opinion.

He’s confusing signed with commitment. If you’re signed, it’s likely your recruitment is shutdown (unless you’re Clemson).

When exactly was the last time we heard one of our commitments announce the've closed their recuritment.
I would gladly trade (as I'm sure most on here would) our situation with Miami's situation.

I think Dante Reno did, but that's all I got.

I give Beamer credit for clawing back Duckworth after he decommitted and appeared destined for LSU. If he's not the starter next year, though, he will transfer.

I still think NIL is a problem.Carolina says they’re going to invest more in (name your sport)but then we find out everybody else is increasing theirs even more.If ain’t spending 40-50 mil on your football roster, then well you see recruiting go like Carolina’s is going.
Pundits who know say it’s only a matter of time before we a 100 mil roster.

A national championship is not worth that kind of money.
I’ve pretty much quit watching college football, except for Carolina. I will watch Clemson to see if they lose.

I read that we should see a $100 million roster in 2-3 years. We are barely keeping our noses above water as it is.

I keep wondering this. How much is it actually worth? How much is a single player actually worth?

It's believed that Miami is paying upwards of $10 million for Mensah. One player. They are believed to have paid his $4 million buyout from Duke and then are paying upwards of $6 million for one season of play. If they don't win the title, how can that cost, for one player, be justified?

Is a single player in college football generate enough revenue for team that, absent a title, he can be worth a $10 million payout?

Crazy what CFB has become after free education.

Agree that the title is not worth it.

Haven't stopped watching yet though. Watched less, maybe. But haven't stopped.

I went from watching games all day on Saturday to watching maybe two games.

We're really cheering for the laundry now. It has made it much easier to get over losses and has really taken the edge off of rivalries. I find it really hard to be passionate about disliking players who are just doing a job. It is almost like trying to be passionate about liking Google more than Apple.

The sad part is most aren’t even getting an education.

There was some of that before, obviously. You always had players who were going through the motions and skating by. But the system was at least set up so that education was part of the equation.

It's not even a consideration any longer. Nobody even pretends the education component matters.

Good way to put it. There is a passion missing. Its just business now, and the emotions dont run as deep. The highs or the lows.

I understand the point you are making. However, in the case of Miami, when one of your boosters are the Mas brothers, 6-10 million is a minor inconvenience of doing business.

Almost no passion. A huge part of what drove passion previously was a connection with the players. Watching a player develop over 3-4 years. Seeing an unheralded backup finally get his chance to shine. Anticipating how the team would grow and gel and come together one year to the next.

That's all out the window. There's such significant roster turnover, you really are just cheering for the logo.
