I’ve been making some clearly humor based comments to keep things light in the midst of the offseason grind. But on all seriousness do you know how many good JUCOs there have been in high major hoops? Doesn’t mean he’s Larry Johnson obviously, but JUCO NPOY even at that level isn’t anything to sneeze at.
Just saying that in the past the SHU forums and that includes the forums BEFORE this one, scoffed at the thought of recruiting JUCO players. It was "GOD" forbid we went that route. Some long-time forum members might even remember those days! So what has changed?

My only question is why was he still available this late at the most premium position?

Copeland is a good get. I like what he can bring. He'll be a matchup nightmare against some teams and a bad matchup against others. A significant get? Depends on your definition of significant. I'm sticking with a good get not a significant get.

JUCO basketball is now terrible and has been since NIL. See Carino's article, the last 3 JUCO POY's have been average for mid-majors.

right? anyone who is worth their salt shouldn't be in juco these days. the NIL + transfer rules has a home for anyone. I mean professional guys even found a way to play a few minutes this year.

the wheels have been off, there's only one reason to be in juco now

JD is correct. I just banned a person who has been trolling the site for years with his negativity. But he never once name called, which is a no no for this site.

I know you have the best of intentions regarding the program. But you must be warned to stop the name calling. Support the program in other ways. But don't force our hand to do something we don't want to do.

Because he committed four plus weeks ago but his agent was a stickler regarding the contract.

Pray tell, what’s that reason?

Use your imagination. If a player has talent and can't land on a team in this NIL climate, maybe there's something else that coaches are reluctant to touch.

Not saying that's the issue with this player, but I do think it's logical to wonder. I hope he is a great player for us with no off-court issues. But getting good players with no issues from JUCO nowadays is probably more the exception than the rule.

Can't believe two posters thought this was a clever response. Oh, well.......
Up to 6 it looks like. It’s obviously for humor purposes playing off board stereotypes, banter and some of the funny boardisms. I’ve posted I like the “get” and the roster generally even if I’m not as bullish as some. Of course my opinion doesn’t matter and ultimately it’s about performance and wins/losses.

He was not available. He told the school he was coming in early May. But the agent/lawyer he hired was a very tough negotiator and it took about a month to close the deal.
That said: What are we paying him (ballpark)?

This type of question comes up repeatedly. And the answer is always the same. There's no way the staff wants this info reported.

But it would surprise me if he wasn't the highest paid player on the team. I say that with no inside knowledge.

Maybe there are other reasons that will be detailed at some point. Why not wait for real info before assuming that there’s something wrong with the guy.

Who's assuming? Asking questions is legitimate. Read the quote you just quoted. I literally said “not saying that’s the issue with this player.”

For an admittedly relatively ignorant fan, this is a pretty significant get for us, right?
Excellent get and good piece of the puzzle. The big that was the really big prize is Devin Williams. Several good schools were in the hunt for him, including Arizona, NC State and others.

The 6-10 center ranked fifth in the country in blocks per game. Departed Hall freshman Najai Hines ranked 15th at 2.3 blocks per game, albeit in fewer minutes (18) and against better competition. Still, it's harder to acquire rim protectors through the transfer portal than any other position, so this is a big breakthrough for the roster.

As a junior at Florida Atlantic, Williams averaged 2.6 blocks in 23.8 minutes per game to go along with 7.5 points and 5.2 rebounds (including 2.2 offensive boards). He shot 51 percent from the field and 67.4 percent from the free-throw line. His 85 blocks set FAU's program record for a sophomore.

Why he was where he was at last year is unimportant to me fwiw. I get being curious, but I am not. He is here now. I think he will be a good player and cant wait to find out.
I feel differently. Most of these kids are in the program for only a year and we get to know so little about them. They all have a story and in the case of Copeland, it would be interesting to hear how he got from Bergen Catholic to SHU.

NIL and immediate transfer has made this game impersonal. When it’s only about numbers on the jersey, it makes it worse.

to everyone who is constantly crying "but why didn't he go somewhere better? why was he available? what took so long? why isn't he taller? why doesn't he shoot 64% from 3????" the answer is: you're right. The team will go 0-6 before cancelling the season, and then college basketball will ban the program, and college basketball will also shut down forever. Are you happy now?

People are allowed to ask questions. Get over it. It's a fan message board. Nobody said the team will go 0-6 etc.
