This is exactly what I was thinking. Why visit again in June of 2026 if you don't intend to go to college untill the Fall of 2027. If he makes the visit seems like he's interested in reclassing. If he cancels we'll know it was a backup plan for Momcilovic. The biggest recruit we could land right now is Crawford for the assistant coach opening.
You think Hampton would be that much of a needle mover right from the jump? I'm asking seriously. I don't know much about him. What's his floor/ceiling?
Why not try and sell his price tag to the boosters for this season? I guarantee you, even though he is said to be staying in HS, its not a coincidence that he is visiting a few days after Momcilovic decision. He knows well we would have been desperate if we lost out on Momcilovic, which tells me for enough jack, he would come. With everyone listing UK as a top 12-15 roster, Hampton would elevate it to top 5 on paper. Or tell the kid, if you stay in school, you take over Momcilovic paycheck next season if you sign on the dotted line today
Yes, ability to score on all 3 levels. Supposedly up to 6'7 now but with guard handles, like the rest of our team defense would be the question mark for him. His 3pt shooting isn't as good as his mid game and post game but it's serviceable and has potential to be 38%+
Floor IMO is Keldon Johnson type player in college with his Ceiling being top 3 Draft pick. He's a consensus projected lottery pick and he'd shoot us into the top 5.
Did Hampton visit? Is he here for move in weekend?

Former Huskies Move Into New Digs at Kentucky
After teaming up at Washington, Zoom Diallo and Franck Kepnang have moved into their new Kentucky homes in Lexington.
I’d still love a reclassifying to this year. I want as much talent as possible and he could be here 2-3 years if he did.
Hampton would make zero sense on the roster this year. He's a volume guy who, at this point, isn't very efficient. Not a great shooter, reminds me of a Cal guy, and I am somewhat surprised Pope seems to be making him a priority.
6th ranked player in his class. Somehow, I think we could make it work lol
He’s super talented. He would have little pressure to come in a star. He could actually sit back and develop over the year. Great take if he will come IMHO.
It may not make much sense to you, but the kid can make bank or go back to high school. Makes perfect sense to him
Is he a 6’6” 2G or must he plug at WF? If he can play 2G, he fills a potential need. If he is a WF, we see a logjam.

When it’s announced by your favorite “insider” talking heads, that UK was indeed out, just as I stated, please feel free to issue your sincere apologies… or don’t, I honestly don’t care, because my track record is currently undefeated on these matters, so I will say once again to my detractors…

He sure made Jasper work. The fit, on this team, would be very strange. As we saw with Cal, just because a player is ranked high doesn't mean they will be good college players day one.
This kid is a Hell of a lot better than Jasper lol

The more I hear, the more I'm thinking ... it all looks better for Pope, regardless if he reclasses or not.
But the more I think about it .... we have one roster spot left.... if he reclasses, he's under no pressure to start, but as the #6 prospect, you definitely want to add him to the roster and he can become a 2 year player NOW, having plenty of time this year to show his true value here. It would be a luxury that might be a big addition. He might get some PT if he can prove he belongs in practice with our guys. I'm gooooood with adding him to this roster.
Either way, it's great and a much better sign, seeing Pope and everyone saying whiff whiff whiff, and he's still at it, right there looking forward, making correct decisions and good moves. Finally giving me some restored faith in his being a smart guy. He's smarter than me.

To me he's Justin Edwards but maybe a little less athletic at least in HS. He's good, but like I said, IMO the fit on this team doesn't match.

Gestalt. With him we’d make a much bigger jump than we’d get strictly from what he brings to the table as an individual. It would be more about what his presence would open up for everybody else as he played off everybody else. Now that we have Momcilovic we’re much better equipped to sell him on that notion. Hope we close the deal.
Right? Archie Goodwin was a heck of a two guard forced to run the point unexpectedly for a team that also wound up losing its star center.
Give him minutes behind Wilkins.. the more minutes you give him early before SEC play will be invaluable.

Him, Ashton, and Vanderbilt I will defend forever.
I think I want him more because he has a good midrange game. That really helps open up the three point shot and the lob opportunities. He’s a good one and could really improve here this season. Plus the money, I know the way I’d be going.
While I’m sure he could get a big paycheck no matter where he goes, I believe he fits here greatly and his dad seems to like Kentucky, to me anyway I’m thinking he wants to finish this summer and then make the move. Quite a few kids have done it like that in the past so hopefully he will be here to start practicing. Maybe wishful thinking.
I met Ryan’s brother RJ tonight and he said Ryan is signing with the Cats and staying the 2027 class.

That’s why he needs to come here and not be the number 1 option ! He could grow a great deal with this roster and learn how to be a great teammate. It could only help his chances at quality playing time earlier in the NBA.
