Would Thompson or Daughtry be a better fit for Iowa?
From my novice perspective, either would be a great pickup. I think Thompson is bigger, not just in height but also in overall frame and shoulder width, which should allow him to bang a bit more inside than Daughtry. That said, both are outstanding players. I could see Daughtry being slightly better offensively, though Thompson is very strong on that end too, while Thompson may have the edge defensively. What I like about both of them is they seem to play at their own pace, similar to Stirtz. They never seem rushed and they both have great body control.

Just to back him up, I have heard this from a couple different places. He plays on the same court as Jaxon Davis for Meanstreets, so picking up Thompson in a reclass then securing Davis for '27 would be insanely elite.
Thompson also played with or does play with one of the top players in the '28 class and appears to be friends with Brady Pettigrew.

I heard a rumor that Davion Thompson, highly recruited 2027 PG, and IA are in serious discussions involving Thompson reclassifying to 2026 and committing to the Hawks.

This presumably would be slightly different than Trey Thompson given the likely (I presume) “5-to play-5” rule change so he’d play next year. I think anyway.

Per one source, there is at least some smoke on this one. No idea how true so take it FWIW.

He’s originally from Chicagoland and transferred to Link Academy in MO. Chicago Sun-Times POY as a sophomore (first ever in 67 years).

Where did you see this rumor? This would be a very good get though. He could probably immediately start/play big minutes
I heard it from a couple of very close friends who are active in the IC business community. They’re total IA hoops junkies who talk to a lot of people in the IC area by virtue of their business interests.

It’s the type of thing that they would had heard it from a contact who heard it first hand from someone associated with the program - might even be second or third hand. Hardly a rock solid source directly within the program. One of them did tell me these discussions and possibility has some real legs to it.

They’ve been right more often and earlier than not but they’ve certainly been wrong before too. Heck, these things fall through even if it is 100% accurate at this point.

Like I said in my initial post; a rumor, might not be true (or materialize), take it FWIW.

REO was my first outdoor concert at Western Illinois, my junior year in high school. Back in 1973. Where have the years gone. Early favorites, Golden Country and 157 Riverside Avenue.

Honestly I love them and I've never seen them. I would still like to but I don't think I want to see them now because I hear they don't sound too good.

I saw them at veterans auditorium in Des Moines in I believe 1976….. Cheap Trick played warm up for them…..right before they became big

Best concert I ever attended was Pink Floyd in the Unidome in the late 80’s…… what I remember anyway

Hope your rumor has traction
Between Jaxson Davis of gurnee and thompson of Bolingbrook ;two top pgs in our recruiting region for 2027.....as always these Chicago area kids are willing to leave the region so competition is fierce.
Adding Thompson to a frosh class of Jayden Coon, Trey thompson, and Ethan harris would be amazing.....longshot,I know, but a guy can dream.

I think people will start to realize that if you are an elite point guard, playing for Ben McCollum is a smart move.

Dang, was hoping that one wasn’t BS lol

A little concerning that we couldn’t even crack the final four with him, imo. Unless we already got a silent commitment from another PG.
Iowa was late to the dance. The other four schools have deep pockets. All of the top programs are after the top 2027 PG's. Daughtry, Jamison or Davis would be one of the best PG prospects ever to commit to Iowa. Not since Woolridge or Lester.

Meh, disagree on the “late to the dance” narrative. These PG’s have been on the radar for a long time now.

Also disagree that all of the top programs are after these guys with exception of Daughtry their offer lists we should at least be in the conversation with them. For Thompson, Outside of Michigan, we should be peers with Arkansas, Baylor and Vandy imo.

New coach, maybe it changes but historically, we are not peers with said schools with regards to recruiting

Vandy sure, Arkansas and Baylor have been recruiting at a high level for years.

Correct, but we didn’t bring Ben in to recruit the same players that Fran did. Obviously, he’s shooting for much higher caliber players, but it doesn’t matter if he doesn’t land them.

I feel Cayden will be a Hawkeye. Only thing may be preventing that is an extremely deep pocket, but I think Iowa can hang all the to the end.

I get it but Fran was shooting for a pretty high caliber of player too. He couldn't land any. So if Ben can't either, kind of a moot point

BMC has already won recruiting battles at Iowa, though. Three 4-star kids with plenty of P4 options have committed to him. All within his first year. IIRC, the only real recruiting battle Fran ever won was for Tyler Cook. If you’re keeping score at home, that’s essentially one recruiting win in a decade and a half. One.

If Iowa can pony up the dough, BMC will land one or two of those 5-star kids now and then. It’s all about the money, though.
