Interesting that there is more discussion about the portal than high school recruiting.
The high school recruits that we can afford will rarely come in and make an instant impact. Transfers are a more known commodity and the ones we can afford could help us get back to the tourney.
6'5" four-star wing Jack Kohnen is one of Iowa's top targets. He's out of Slinger, WI.
Josh Sash was in the Milwaukee suburbs on Monday night to watch him live.

With the last name McCollum, he has to be Iowa bound, right?
At first glance, I thought he is way too small and his shooting form is awkward. But I thought the same thing about Steph Curry when he was at Davidson.
In fact, the way this kid shoots, curls around screens, steps back and fires, all look similar in style to Steph Curry. (Yes, obviously that means I am saying he is as good as Steph Curry

I think he is and rightfully so. No body wants to live in that s h I t hole unless they're being paid well.
ISU has an assistant that has strong ties to Wisconsin. They have had a lot of success up there. Hard to break through.
Clear factor for the kid was depth of incoming and current forwards on the Hawks roster. But there are many other factors too and he chose the Clowns. We’ll see if it works out for him.
From my perspective, we need more immediate help at the point and off guard positions when Combes is done, so if this means we’ll get someone to fill those slots, then I think that’s better for us.

Yesterday marked the start of the first evaluation period of the spring. Ben and Josh Sash were courtside in Memphis for two of Iowa’s top guard targets in the 2027 class (four star 6'0" PG Cayden Daughtry and four star 6'1" PG Jaxson Davis).
Iowa recently had an in-home visit with Davis.

Very good question. Ben seems to be spending a lot of time/energy on him.
Daughtry is quite the talent but with Michigan, Miami, Florida State and other top teams in the mix, it will be tough.
TJ Jamison has his official visit on June 14th. Iowa is already in his top 10 schools

I heard a rumor that Davion Thompson, highly recruited 2027 PG, and IA are in serious discussions involving Thompson reclassifying to 2026 and committing to the Hawks.
This presumably would be slightly different than Trey Thompson given the likely (I presume) “5-to play-5” rule change so he’d play next year. I think anyway.
Per one source, there is at least some smoke on this one. No idea how true so take it FWIW.

Between Jaxson Davis of gurnee and thompson of Bolingbrook ;two top pgs in our recruiting region for 2027.....as always these Chicago area kids are willing to leave the region so competition is fierce.
Adding Thompson to a frosh class of Jayden Coon, Trey thompson,and Ethan harris would be amazing.....longshot,I know,but a guy can dream.
This would be in line with a rumor that someone started on another thread that looks like it got axed. Had something to do with really really good news coming but also really really bad news.
if true, this is kind of creative recruiting that we have sorely lacked in Iowa athletics for sometime. Glad to see Tra Thompson wasn’t a one time deal. I realize everyone will be doing this once the five for five starts but to be actually on the front end of something like this is refreshing.
Hope the really good news is Jamison. Bad news is probably Kohnen.
Watching Thompson's reels, it's apparent to me that kid's a baller and will most likely play at very high level, college and pros if he keeps improving. He's a bigger PG that will grow into his frame.

Just to back him up, I have heard this from a couple different places. He plays on the same court as Jaxon Davis for Meanstreets, so picking up Thompson in a reclass then securing Davis for '27 would be insanely elite.
He can’t until June 1st, but I hope he’s here at 8 am on 6/1 lol
