Frankly, this loss and field hockey championship game hurt me more than men bball or basketball disappointments last year. I have found non revenue sports so refreshing and escape from bat guano crazy world of mens’a revenue sports with mercenary culture , obscene money, etc (ie -“I gambled on games but it was addiction so I deserve a 7th year” 😆. )
losing to AZ super regional after winning 18-2 was brutal
i think NW field hockey got us in the semis

Why we throwing the MVM under the bus? UNC had one of the best defenses in the country.

I think we will become harder to play over time as MVM becomes more rare and opponents do not practice it enough.

it also helps us in recruiting elite defenders.
I’m not a big zone fan but NW played it very well today and we got impatient while 3 seconds was pretty much ignored as officials think it’s a disservice to the game to call it too much, failing to implement the rules. And I’m not hoping UNC changes defensive philosophy and goes predominantly zone.

my bet is the NW coaches whines about so many 3 seconds calls in prior game fwiw. Officials responded. There were countless bad calls today, mostly against UNC imo, and the TWO goal reversals DID change the game without merit imo, but one has to credit NW’s zone and keeper play, in conjunction with our hi-to-hi shooting habit and questionable keeper success, giving NW credit for being good and, in the books now, emerging with the title. I’m sick with it, yes, love our kids’ fight and great season, and look forward to winning next year again.

So it has always been. So It shall always be.
Sad but true.

The most frustrating part is that nothing is ever done about it. Everyone is forced to accept the bogus outcome and move on while the officials are accountable to no one. I'm sure we'll see those same officials in the postseason again next year as if nothing happened.

As you can tell I much prefer the zone. So often against the zone there will be two or more defenders contesting. How many times in the 4th did we get trapped in the middle of the zone and have a turnover, too many. And the refs will let it get more physical as the game goes on. The Ladies playing this sport are so much faster, stronger and physical now that trying to stop them one on one is next to impossible. The slide creates unguarded players. Hey, just my opinion and I never played the sport. I also wonder how much running a man to man requires instead of a zone. Hey just one couch coach’s opinion.

The MVM got us to the final game. It does work however, you cannot anticipate or account for how the referees are going to call the game. In my earlier post, I clearly stated that my major concerned was going to be home cooking by the referees. NW playing in the home stadium was bad IMO, and that is exactly what happened in the fourth quarter. NW got all the calls and we did not. They could have played the game at another location in Chicago so that NW would not have a home field advantage and that is exactly what happened. How many Championship games are played on one of the team's home fields? Somebody mentioned that in soccer it is played in Cary, NC. Yes, I agree but it is not played at Duke's home field, NC State's home filed or UNC's home field.

Our lacrosse team should still be proud of themselves. To make it back-to-back is very rear to do in this day and time. I am so proud of this team. The majority of this team are mainly freshman and sophomores. Hopefully, this will motivate them for next season. We have to number 1 classes coming in for the 2026 and 2027 year. We have to also understand that BWW did not play, and Gresham was playing hurt and not at 100%. This did not help as well. I think the Charlotte Rathjen did a heck of a job at draw control to be a freshman and she had to come in and play tons of minutes during the playoffs. The experience she and King got is going to bold well for next season. I think we will need to find a draw specialist in the portal for next season just in case someone goes down or gets hurt during the season.

I completely agree about the lack of accountability for officials being frustrating.

Can someone explain to me (I don’t know lacrosse rules) about the goal waved off because of our player stepping into the crease? I can understand not allowing it if she stepped in while the ball was in play…but it was a whole two seconds after the ball went in the net (with a slight bump as well). Am I crazy for thinking that was an idiotic overturn?
