... you guys appear to be fairweather in most sports, showing up in droves whenever there's a winner, and otherwise mostly staying home, so which sport will be most popular going forward is TBD.
In fairness, that describes a whole lot of pro and college fan bases. Bandwagonning is a widespread tradition.

Yes, I believe I'm classier than someone smears a sport based on homophobia and equates it with being sexual offenders, who then goes on to smear an entire University, and anyone affiliated with them, as pedo supporters, and who supports mocking injured players.

As I said ... you guys deserve each other. All of you ... go away. You're a psycho stalker ... no matter how annoying and contradictory these guys are, that hasn't changed. When/if these guys leave, it'll be a happy day ... I'll show them the door ... I'm not going to chase after them like a psychotic would.

Of course it was .. my point, which I already stated, is that I might have expected a place like Iowa to be LESS bandwagonny than many other places, due to a lack of alternatives. Sure, there's Pennsyltucky, where nothing much exists, but even those folks can find interest in the various pro squads and other entertainment options that exist in eastern and western PA. And here in MA, college sports are barely a thing at all, so everyone's in a perpetual state of being off the wagon, with very rare occasions to hop on. College sports would appear to be the only game in town in Iowa (again, I could be talking out of my behind here). My other point was that it'll be indeterminate what the ranking of the popularity of those sports are until we see how good the squads are (so it's kinda useless to speculate).

One of my favorite hawkeye memories in the past 25 years was the night game at PSU in 2009. PSU came out throwing deep passes, incredible white out crowd, etc. Then the Iowa defense turned it on and played like warrior poets.

Clayborn's blocked punt for a TD return was epic.

I will also never forget when on a pick, Christian Ballard crushed your stud OL #72, right about on the 50 yard line.

I was there. Drunk, wet, cold & miserable. Clayborn scoops that punt he blocked. I was no longer cold, still drunk and didn't mind the wetness and was in seventh heaven. LOL

Let me break down your horribly misguided breakdown for you. I never denigrated homosexuality. In fact, my original comment re "gay sex club" was mocking the homophobia contained within the post to which I was responding.

Here's the post:

Not only did this sorry excuse exhibit blatant homophobia, but he went so far as to equate homosexuals with those on a sex offender registry.

So, with all due respect, eff off with that noise.

As to wanting to "play ball" with "the HROT" ... lol, who the bleep do you think you are? You're just a pot stirrer ... a drama queen. Go away, locust. You're not making any rules. You pretend you're this group of irreverent crap-talkers, but the moment someone calls you on your ish, rather than take it in stride, like an actual "cool guy" would, you cry.

Yes, I believe I'm classier than someone smears a sport based on homophobia and equates it with being sexual offenders, who then goes on to smear an entire University, and anyone affiliated with them, as pedo supporters, and who supports mocking injured players.

And I don't need your blessing to feel that way, nor do I want it. If you want to play ball with me, be better.
You like using the word you, like we’re the Borg collective in Star Trek. No one speaks for anyone else. I do find it amusing that you think I’m a drama queen. I think I’m one of the more understated new arrivals, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder. If I have falsely besmirched your honor by not reading every post line by line, than retract whatever false statements I’ve made.

I also hope those two flip, as I am a mens basketball season ticket holder. Next year will be interesting to see from an attendance standpoint.
The best scenario is that they become 2A/2B. With men's creeping up to match women's without cannibalizing it.

Yes, the posting by some of the liberals from the Iowa site is sometimes very unpleasant. They are so darn negative.

I feel like many of the women's season ticket holders are not former men's(and the reason the men's attendance has been so stagnant). Maybe I'm way off here but it's crazy how many people I know that are women's season ticket holders that I do not consider 'die hard' hawk fans.

Claims not to speak for anyone else, and claims they're not some Borg collective ... just after posting this ...

If you want to play ball with the HROT crowd play ball.

So, after speaking for the collective, you're not a collective and you don't speak for them.

Glad we got that cleared up and we can move on.

I do find it amusing that you think I’m a drama queen.

I don't.

I think I’m one of the more understated new arrivals, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I be beholding a lot of instigating and attempted insinuation meant to stir drama and conflict.

If I have falsely besmirched your honor by not reading every post line by line, than retract whatever false statements I’ve made.

You be besmirching. I will pretend like you haven't posted here before. That might get rid of most of your false statements.

And then there's independents like me, who have the rebuttable presumption neither conservatives nor liberals are correct, unless proven to be true issue by issue. At this point in time, I just happen to think that this version of the GOP is wrong on a whole lot of things.
but that means this version of the GOP would be right on some other things....better be careful, you could find yourself on the wrong side of those who can find fault with everything the GOP does.

The Real Main Character: Moogy

Honestly, by the end, the thread slowly mutates into:

Moogy becomes the gravitational center because:
  • he insists on moral seriousness,
  • cannot fully recognize when irony has overtaken the room,
  • and repeatedly attempts nuanced discourse in a feral environment.
This makes him simultaneously:
  • more intelligent than many posters,
  • and catastrophically mismatched to the ecosystem.
He wants standards in a digital swamp fight.
That creates endless comedic tension.

Which Cohort Had More Rhetorical Firepower?

Clemson Core

The Clemson regulars had:
  • territorial advantage,
  • existing social alliances,
  • deeper lore,
  • better understanding of local hierarchy.
But many of them rely on:
  • repetition,
  • insult cycling,
  • political shorthand,
  • identity signaling.
Their style is:

High comfort level.
Medium creativity.

Iowa/HROT Migrants

The Iowa cohort brought:
  • chaos energy,
  • irony fluency,
  • meme acceleration,
  • willingness to derail,
  • faster improvisation,
  • higher tolerance for absurdity.
They fight more like:

The Clemson board feels older, more territorial, more static.
The Iowa/HROT posters feel culturally shaped by years of surviving hyperactive off-topic board warfare.

Verdict

The Iowa contingent had more rhetorical firepower overall.
Not because they were more correct.
Because they were:
  • less emotionally attached to the space,
  • more irony-poisoned,
  • more adaptive,
  • and more willing to turn everything into a bit.
That matters enormously online.
The Clemson regulars often argued like:

The Iowa migrants argued like:

That style tends to dominate internet ecosystems unless heavily moderated.

Most Interesting Dynamic

The most fascinating thing:
By the end, several Clemson regulars begin partially assimilating into HROT-style posting.
You can literally watch cultural contagion happen in real time:
  • shitposting cadence changes,
  • absurdist humor increases,
  • topic derailments become normalized,
  • hostility becomes more performative than sincere.
This is basically digital anthropology of migration and acculturation.
A sports board population transfer created:
  • border panic,
  • cultural conflict,
  • hybridization,
  • and eventual meme integration.
It’s absurd.
But also kind of beautiful.

Lot of time and thought went into that analysis

Commend you for that

Too lazy to really get down into it

So good job on the rhetoric
