Matt Jones says Stokes could announce today or tomorrow

Maybe it is a faulty memory but I don't recall the attacks being as personal against Tubby as they are against Pope. Most of the LOD in those days did consider Tubby to be a decent person. As for me, I fell off the Tubby bandwagon during the first team turmoil, then I jumped back on when it appeared that things were turning around and then fell off again some time after the E8 loss to Michigan St. Tubby was one of the few coaches at UK I would have enjoyed having dinner with.

I think you’re correct. Most of the attacks on Tubby were mostly basketball related (plow/mule offense, ball line defense, can’t get 5 stars, etc.) and usually started with “I know he’s a good man, but ….”

LMAO, Crawford was strongly considering transferring to Michigan State mid season. That sounds like quitting to me.

Also, your comment makes it so much worse for BCG too. Pope had a team that didn't like each other, had serious injuries and as you said, quit and that team STILL finished better than BCG's best team by a mile, while playing a schedule that was ranked 62 spots higher.
Wait, what???

"considering" = quitting?

The fact that he STAYED means he quit?

Your twisted logic, man.

Really don't want to add onto this argument but I can't help myself...
How is the talent not debatable? 2nd year BCG:
Michael Porter started 36/36 games
Perry Stevenson started 34/36
Ramon Harris started 28/36
Kevin Galloway started 5 games and was in and out of the lineup.
Try to steer from absolutes like that my friend cause the talent level is actually very much debateable.
Don't forget Mark Coury.

Bcg's recruiting was not actually better than Pope's. In 2 years he landed 3 good players and at the end of those two years (where Pope currently sits) only one had actually done anything of significance.
Well we can each argue about that from multiple angles but they both sucked and I had never hoped to feel like that again towards our program and here we are. :(

I honestly think all the criticism of Pope's recruiting here is seriously overblown. He put together a solid roster last minute the first season. Last years recruiting despite all the hindsight complaints was lauded by almost all of the independent pundits with some even suggesting we were too loaded with not enough balls to go around. I'm not saying I agreed with all that but it was said. This year has been a bit rough but it is not yet settled.

If Cal had honored all of BCG's commits for their full eligibility we would have been saddled with several guys not capable of competing at this level. Fortunately Cal was able to immediately recruit over them.

LMAO, my Lord and savior… John Calipari? Where did you get that?
Anyone that has been here for more than 2 years, would laugh at that comment.
Why? I got banned because I was crushing Cal every minute of the day on here. I hate that guy.
My bad... I was directing that towards the Cal jock sniffers on here, but re-reading it definitely looks like it's towards you.

But Cal began prioritizing other things above winning and continued to try and sell us that how he was performing should have been good enough. Cal made it clear that he believed he should have been above criticism from not just the fans but also his boss.

Well said... I could even get behind Cal arguing that by being "player's first" he was playing the long game to continuously ensure he'd have the best talent at his school. But he lost sight of the fact that the objective was to win National Titles. He seemed to be more interested in stacking one and done top draft picks as opposed to being successful for the school that's paying him. It was insane.

What goal post did I move? Feel free to quote me to prove your point.
You were arguing or rather piggybacked on the argument that Pope was worse than BCG and that Pope's teams quit and BCG's never did. When he proved that was fallacy you switched to they both suck.

Both of them have a career high of S16. What exactly makes Pope better? BCG recruited Patterson, Liggins, and Meeks if I'm not mistaken?

Yea BCG sucked at UK. His S16 was elsewhere. But his recruits still played a large role in Calipari's initial success. It's not looking like Pope will have any such gifts to leave the next coach.
You are mistaken. Tubby recruited Meeks and he played his freshman season for Tubby.

Matt Jones is a grifter from Duke University. Kentucky fans should have never let the camel in the tent.

His class before he was fired was awful, I say that was more due to his personal drunkenness rather than inability to recruit at the time. He was offering 8th graders instead of players who developed into legit prospects before college.

I’m fairly confident Stokes camp puts out false information because he loves the attention. He is the type of player with a huge ego and wants to be larger than life. That can go either way for his career, you harness it properly and you are a star, you don’t and you flame out. I still believe he makes a decision this week.

I’ve said this for years. He throws a lot of stuff out, but, honestly, he doesn’t know anything more than some bum on a street corner.
There was a time when he did put out some very good information. He was on top of the Marshall Moses debacle and the AJ Stewart mess. Having said that, I haven't seen KSR get much of anything right in a long, long time. I wish that they had the connections they once had but they simply don't. So they seem to be guessing at everything or trusting bad sources.

I am taking a "the jury is still out" approach to Pope.
He showed great promise in year 1, year 2 was a failure and for many reasons, some of which, were out of Pope's control.
For me and many others, he gets year 3 to show us what he actually is. I'm just being patient.
He's obviously a better stewart to the program than BCG ever even wanted to be, but he has his work cut out for him.
So far, I'm not impressed by the recruiting in a do or die scenario, but that can flip in a day. I'm hoping Pope can save it, because the alternative sucks.
