At this point, this kid would be a hero to be the first commit.
I'd take the Grandmama version of Larry Johnson at this point. Just need a Boom to lessen the pain.
Not sure if this is a serious question but the boosters and staff I know are about as helpless and lost as we are here. Everyone trying to wrap their head around what happened and how. That being said there is plenty of confidence on the remaining targets, but we have to close the deal.
Kid is a good player. The folks on here bashing him are being nonsensical. We still need Stokes, Zoom, whoever to be the star, but good players never hurt
Apparently Stony Brook University came in and offered this guy a free meal plan along with a partial scholarship. We should expect a whiff soon.

It's like a cafeteria line of recruits coming through and it feels like Pope is feeding them slop.
If the state of this team was in a better spot and the administration gave us little to criticize then the overall feel of this board would be much more positive. Based on the current state, no one should expect to come here and it be all rainbows and unicorns.
That said, the collective group of us are not talent evaluators and really should not be attacking the skill set of a kid the program is looking at until we see him in action in our jersey.

They can definitely play together. Small forward and power forward. Probably a good fit together actually. Kid can pass the ball pretty well. Would have some good size with MM
Big 12 power forward with this player’s resume will not be a bench piece.
His numbers are as good as Carr’s were after sophomore year. Plus he gives us much needed height at the 4. He played on a team with a great coach & star guard. Indiana just signed 2 bigs & BYU just filled his spot too. I say sign him up. He played with another 7 footer this year on a team that played a fairly tough schedule.

He's a pretty good basketball player. Not enough of an impact guy to be the featured big, but definitely a piece that can be a plus.
Pope says Hawthorne is 6-10+.
I’ll take 7-1 +7-0 + 6-11 + 6-10 across front line any day.
Throw in Kam at 6-9 playing the 3 & we’ve got a front court to be proud of.

I’m glad you’re optimistic and I won’t fault you for it but that’s a garbage lineup in my opinion. It may get us 20 wins but still an early exit in the tourney.
I'm just as down on Pope as everyone else right now, but Rancik is a very good prospect and player. I'd probably take him over Freeman.
Is this guy a pretty reliable jump shooter to help stretch the floor with spacing? I’ve never watched him

my guess is pope rolls the dice with 3 bigs (moreno / freeman / ranick) .... that way those all get minutes. potter is the emergency back up.

I agree. Potter is good enough to be the 4th big, also since he has an outside game, he can play with Moreno also. In the modern game, I don't see the need for a "traditional" backup 5.
Then you probably need to go watch both play some games instead of just highlights! No offense, just saying. I agree though that he’s a really good player and I’d love to have him. I don’t think it should be one or the other and both would be great to me.
