OT: City makes pitch to keep Bears in Chicago

People like me who have a juvenile sense of humor would have fun with that.
Even Tito left to eventually open a Vodka distillery.
If they stay with "Chicago Bears", they'd join the Jets and Giants as the only teams to play in a state which isn't the home of the city in their name. I'm not counting the Commanders since D.C. and the suburbs are a unique animal. Regardless, they'll be moving back to the district in a few years, if all goes to plan.
I still say that Washington muffed the name change. The Beltway Bandits was there for the taking.
Gotta love billionaire professional sports franchise owners.
They want the taxpayer to continually fund new or upgraded facilities (which increase the value of their franchise), while continually raising tickets/seat licensing, concessions (with rare exceptions) and parking prices, while artificially suppressing player wages via salary caps, etc.

Funny thing is that Hammond once did have an NFL team in the 1920s.

I looked up Hammond, Indiana on Wikipedia, and it's right next door to...East Chicago. So why couldn't Da Bears call themselves the East Chicago Bears?

Would not be surprised if the Halas family sells shortly after receiving their new shiny taxpayer provided stadium.

Total ********. If they do not play in Chicago, they need to change the name. And taxpayers should get a share of what whatever profits they subsidize wherever this corrupt team lands.
So, my 2 cents....
A few years ago, during renovations to Soldier Field, the Bears played at University of Illinois Stadium, which is down state, but holds a fair amount of people. Why can't they demo Soldier Field and build a new one in it's place while the Bears play 8 games a year (maybe 9) at Illlinois Stadium - again? For probably no more than 2 seasons.
The key is to start construction on the new stadium as soon as weather breaks - to pour foundations and do subgrade work (utilities). Once the foundation is poured and walls start going up, the weather becomes less of an issue to complete construction and ostensibly, they could move along fairly rapidly.
It's not a perfect arrangement, but it will get the Bears the stadium they want, and they stay in Illinois. And, they and their fans have done the Illinois trip before, and they have demonstrated it's not a signicant burder.
Have they completely ruled out this option?

Funny thing is that Hammond actually had an early NFL or pre-NFL team that played most of their games in Chicago due to not having a proper stadium. George Halas actually played for them.

I'm not a Bears fan and I don't care where they play in the future. Regardless of where it is, I hope the architectural firm does a better job of designing a new stadium than whoever designed what Soldier Field looks like today. It's one of the weirdest structures I've ever seen.

Soldier Field is built on a landfill. Lord only knows what lies within a pre 1920s landfill.
